Buy, Buy, Baby

A Kiss or Two

SH-LG84G-W_main1[1].jpgFact: Lulu Guinness is adorable. Both in person and in her designs.

We’re bummed that her Kooky Eyed Cat Handbag has a waiting list, but the rest of her website is still putting smiles on our faces this afternoon.

Or should we say, smiles on our ears? Lulu has taken her iconic painted lips and made them into the most whimsical earrings since the glass slipper pair we bought at Disney World when we were nine.

We don’t wear earrings that often, but we knew there was a reason we’d kept our holes from closing.

Shop with Lulu

luluguinnessannivpartyinlondon.jpgAfter a party earlier in the week in London to celebrate her 20th Anniversary, Lulu Guinness has made her way stateside. (Did you know her first bag was a patent briefcase with clear pockets?)

We’re quite excited to toast her at a little fete here in NYC on Monday night.

But she’s not leaving out any of her devoted fans. She will be at her store on Sunday from Sunday from 2-4 pm doing a signing. Plus there’ll be cupcakes! And champers! And discounts!

Lulu Guinness: 394 Bleecker Street (between 11th and Perry)
RSVP: bleeckerst@luluguinness.com or 212-367-2120

Fashion Is Fun

Havaiana Humanity

Lulu-Guinness_V_11jun09_pr_b.jpg.jpgAfter you have given away few pairs of shoes away, you may want to check out this footwear-charity collaboration.

While Abby is considering forgoing her Havaianas to save her feet, some big names in fashion have created their own versions of the summertime staple.

The sandals are to be auctioned off to benefit charity CLIC Sargent, a charity giving money to young people who have cancer, and their families.

Naomi Campbell, Manolo Blahnik, Matthew Williamson, and Lulu Guinnness (pictured) are just a few of the people adding their special touches (or in Naomi’s case, heels) to these flip flops.

Havaianas is no stranger to a collaboration. In 2004 the company partnered with H.Stern to create a diamond encrusted pair. And while we love diamonds, we love Issa’s polka-dotted pair more!

The shoes are hitting Selfridges window displays on June 15, and will be available for auction on June 26, but for now you can check them out online.

Is it sad that we are checking the cost of flights to London right now so we can check them out in person?

B for Beauty

Lulu My Guinness

blue lulu guinness bag.jpgThe start of spring’s the best time to indulge in manicures and pedicures.

They’re inexpensive - for beauty treatments - and your skin finally sees the light of day. If, however, you’re saving your pennies, swing by Lulu Guinness’s Bleecker Street store on Saturday for a complimentary manicure.

They’ll paint your nails Lulu red, or if you prefer, your lips (with lipstick, not nail polish).

And if you buy anything from Lulu’s store, which we can’t imagine being hard given that it’s spring and she’s prone to the prettiest colors, you’ll be entered for a chance to win a grand prize on May 1st.

Call 212.367.2120 by Thursday to make your appointment. And when you’re done, skip across the street for a cupcake.

Been Locked Inside Your Heart-Shaped Bag For Weeks

heart bags 2.jpgMarc isn’t the only one who’s feeling the love these days - Heart-shaped bags are becoming the shape of choice.

Last year, Lulu Guinness incorporated heart-shaped clutches into both her Holiday Resort collection and Love(RED) campaign. Later that year, Erin Fetherston created a giant heart-shaped tote for her GO International line, which was released just in time for every college girl in the Northeast to work it into her Valentine’s Day wardrobe. Now, Topshop has added its own version to their summer stash.

We think the look’s adorable, but we wouldn’t suggest pairing a heart-shaped bag with any of Marc’s heart-y Resort, lest you end up looking like Gossamer (from Looney Toons!)

How Much Does Your Umbrella Cost?

burberryumbrella.jpgI spend money on shoes, Natalie shells it out for beauty products and Brett splurges on cashmere - but we just discovered a friend who put her extra funds toward a coveted umbrella.

Said umbrella - in signature Burberry plaid - still boasted it’s choke inducing price tag: $100.00, and I used all of my self control to not scream, “Seriously?!”

Then I remembered my last year of college. I worked at a little store in Harvard Square where we sold Lulu Guinness umbrellas which actually sold out at the bargain price of $65.00.

I have a pretty cute umbrella myself - it’s bright yellow and it has a duck on the handle, but I’m pretty sure I got it at CVS for $7.99. I get compliments on it everywhere I go - which is weird since it’s an umbrella - and in the two years I’ve had it, it’s never flipped inside out.

Would you really spend $100 on an umbrella to try and make a fashion (logo) statement? Or is this completely insane?
