The Tribeca Film Festival hit Doha last week and my mom finally saw The September Issue.
She loved Grace, loved Raquel, and wanted to know if Thakoon ever did design for Mango, and if he didn’t, who did? The only other name we remember from Anna’s list, when she sat down with Oscar De La Renta, was Tracey Feith which, thank god, didn’t happen.
But this morning WWD suggested that Moises De La Renta, Oscar’s son, is up for the job. The Spanish brand’s staging their annual fashion show on Wednesday in Madrid’s Magic Box (built for their failed Olympic bid) and Moises is expected to attend. He’ll be among 600 other guests including Scarlett Johansson and Dree Hemingway.
Meanwhile, Thakoon does have a new job. He’s been appointed Creative Director of Tasaki, the Japanese jewelry line known for cultivating their own pearls. He says, “It is exciting to be working with fine jewelry as it will unquestionably feed into my overall creative process… My goal is to approach jewelry design in the same manner that I approach clothing: always move forward but respect the past.”
London Fashion Week has already been shaping up as the place to be this fall.
And now for those of you not in New York the week before, there will be even more places to celebrate, this time for high street fashion.
According to Vogue UK, stores like Topshop, Mango, H&M, Urban Outfitters, and New Look will be banding together from September 7-11 to hold champagne-filled late night shindigs, collection previews, and even beauty workshops.
We won’t be able to make it as we’ll be ensconced in all things NYC. But we’re sure you Londoners will have a good time for all of us.

Word broke awhile back that Julia Roitfeld would be the Spring 09 face of Mango following campaigns with Gap, Tom Ford and Rock & Republic.
She’s joined by her brother and Lily Donaldson beau Vladimir (chosen for their position in “the new generation of European high society”) as well as Dakota Griffith - Melanie and Don Johson’s spawn - in the Spanish chain’s latest campaign.
Carine’s daughter might be super famous within the high fashion industry but we fail to see how she’ll connect to the same customer targeted by Penelope Cruz. Unless of course it’s the fact that she’s so pretty it doesn’t matter what her last name is.
Anyway, Julia poses in a white trench, white jeans and the most Carrie Bradshaw-ish flower we’ve seen in a very long time. They should have had Carine style the shoot - then we might brave this cold for a trip to Mango.
The new J.Crew catalog just arrived in our office, sandwiched in between invites and barely worth a second glance until we noticed they’d snagged Lauren Hutton for the cover.
They’ve been putting their own employees to modeling work on their website for the past couple of months and riding the gigantic wave of Obama publicity — apparently saving their pennies for Lauren who looks, well, kind of ravishing.
The model/actress is keeping up with the supers revival, this marks her third campaign alongside The Row and Mango - and J.Crew’s first use of a household name (unless you’re talking our household in which Anouck, Cintia and Stam definitely count).
Question is, do we want that trench because it’s perfect or do we want the trench because Lauren makes it look perfect?

In the most ironic news of the day: Forever 21 is suing rock band Forever the Sickest Kids for, here’s the kicker, copyright infringement. Apparently the use of ‘Forever’ in the band’s moniker is just too similar to the clothing company’s name - which is funny because we weren’t aware you could own a word, especially one as pervasive as ‘forever’ (now, a Chloe shoe design, that’s another thing…).
We would be more shook up if we felt their claim had more merit to it, but, really? Does this mean MANGO can now sue fruit sellers all across the world? Or that London’s famous “mind the gap” could be hastily changed to “mind the narrow space between”? Of course, we sincerely hope not. And we can’t imagine a judge who would disagree.
This may just go to show how ridiculously sue-happy the world has become, but we like to think of it as a great case of what goes around comes around. We can’t wait for the verdict.

Amidst the tutu-esque shaped dresses, whimsical t-shirts with faces on them and harlequin diamond patterns, one thing has become clear: everybody wants to be Miu Miu.
Case in point: this diamond stamped clutch from Topshop. Or take a look at this chain purse, or even these dresses from their Fall collection. Still not convinced of the Miu Miu influence? Check out this Harlequin mask. Seeing diamonds yet?
It isn’t just Topshop either. Mango is also selling a harlequin diamond-stamped clutch in more muted colors, while Urban Outfitters has a slightly more gypsy version of the diamond print all over this dress on their site. Even Marc Jacobs has given into the diamond frenzy - stamping this Marc by Marc jacket with the blue and green pattern.
We loved the look on the Miu Miu Spring 08 runway and we’re still kind of into it at these retail stores, we just hope it doesn’t become as ubiquitously watered down as the YSL drips…
Because then it would just make us dizzy.

It’s been out for a while now that Alice Dellal would follow in the poses of Milla Jovovich, Penelope Cruz, and Mamie Gummer as the new face of Mango - she’s kind of moonlighting as a body for Agent Provocateur, too.
But now WWD’s reporting that she’ll be joined in some ads by Lauren Hutton, the striking gap-toothed beauty of yore who may look just as amazing smiling next to Alice’s 20-something year-old face.
Lauren’s latest move follows in the Fall 08 ad trend of supermodels coming back for guest appearances, like Eva for Louis Vuitton, Naomi for YSL, Linda for Prada, Claudia for Ferragamo and Chanel, Stephanie Seymour for Loewe, Christy for Escada and Amber for DSquared, though nobody’s coming close to touching Lauren’s experience at 64 years of age.
We hope her shots include at least one leather jacket and nothing underneath.
Milla Jovovich, Penelope Cruz, and Mamie Gummer have all posed for the Spanish brand Mango - now it’s Alice Dellal’s turn.
The British best friend of Lizzie Jagger is frequently spotted at London fashion shows and parties, and now she’s finally making the leap over to massive commercials.
She’ll star in Mango’s denim campaigns for summer and fall, and they’ll run on billboards, in magazines, and also in MNG store windows.
Alice’s other big campaign for Agent Provocateur also drops this Fall, so stay tuned -
Maybe like Daisy, Mary Charteris, and Alexa Chung, she’ll be moving to NYC in the near future.
