Zandra Rhodes, the fuchsia-haired eccentric British designer, is designing a capsule collection for Marks & Spencer.
Zandra says, “I’ve always found prints are so easy to wear they don’t show marks very much, they make you feel wonderful. It’s great to see my things out and I can’t wait, I can see people wearing them with big hats!”
So of course the line, swimsuits, silk dresses, caftans and jumpsuits plus lingerie and accesssories, is covered in brightly colored prints. And everything’s priced between $9 and $130, you can buy it online or in stores starting May 7th, which means pretty much anyone can get a piece of the legendary Brit woman.
Zandra, who was the star of the British fashion industry in the 70s fell off the radar for a bit before resurfacing with a full runway collection in 2006 and then a collection with MAC, a tribute to her own colorful make-up ways and a shout out in Influence, where Mary Kate mentions she’s obsessed with collecting vintage Zandra caftans.
But vintage Zandra bathing suits? These are a much better option.
Pat Field’s much anticipated one-off for Marks & Spencer is finally out, so everyone can finally see what she meant by calling it “Destination Style New York.”
Immediately, it just looks a whole lot like Sex and the City.
Take the Glamour Mac, reminiscent of the trenched outfit Carrie wore while darting through the streets with her shameful Vogue underarm. Or the Rose Puffball dress, an edgier version of one of Carrie’s uber-lady ensembles. Or the Sexy Strapless Catsuit paired with a gold belt, the exact outfit she wore to her rehearsal dinner. Pat even went as far back as the Burger days, bringing back to life the “stupid hat” we actually thought was really cute.
We don’t know why we didn’t see this coming - Kate Moss and Rachel Bilson have already sort of paved the way for designing lines based on already existing closets. But even still, we can’t help but wonder where Pat will go once even the most die-hard fans roll their eyes every time they hear “I couldn’t help but wonder”…
Looks like Lily Cole isn’t the only redhead Marks & Spencer is counting on to up its image -
Vogue UK says that Pat Field’s going H&M style and designing a limited-edition line for the chain retailer, which is not only a first for Pat, but a first for M&S as well.
The 35-piece range hits stores in October, and will be available online and in international stores other than M&S so everybody can get in on the fun.
Pat says the concept for the line is “Destination Style New York”, which we take to mean as a little bit Andre J and a whole lot of Samantha, with just a dash of marketability.
We’re sure the line will do well, no matter what Pat thinks up for it, so we guess the next logical question would be, who’s going to design the next capsule collection for M&S?
