Ed Note: And now for a quick break from all things Parisian!
There’s nothing I like more than a well-executed costume party, especially one that’s Great Gatsby themed. (Because fashion and F. Scott together is unbeatable in my book.)
So I was obviously jazzed about Thursday night’s College Ball at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Guys and gals took the Met by storm in a party to rival those of Gatsby himself. The scene was that of a society ball: dancing, drinking, and nibbling on hors d’oeuvres; a perfect reprieve from crazy college life.
My fashion expectations were set high for the night, thinking of John Galliano’s FW07 and SS08 flapper collections and the revolutionary 1920s styles of Mlle Chanel.

At the Met, no less. How chic is that?
The Costume Institute is launching a film series during July in conjunction with their Model as Muse exhibit and they’ve lined up some pretty awesome special guests to attend and discuss the movies, along with curator Harold Koda and guest curator Kohle Yohannan.
Here’s the lineup:
July 10 - Funny Face and Carmen Dell’Orifice
July 17 - Qui êtes-vous, Polly Maggoo? and Dorothy McGowan
July 22 - Unzipped and Isaac Mizrahi
Tickets are only $10 and you can get them here.
It’ll be like a way more stylish version of all those film classes we loved so in college. Plus, we’re just about due for our annual viewing of Unzipped and we can’t wait to watch it with Isaac himself.

FACT:
Agyness Deyn will not be in the Burberry campaign next season.
Trust this.
We do trust it, but that leaves a bigger question:
Last week, Agyness said she wouldn’t be attending the ball because of a European fashion shoot - which we find suspect since everyone in the industry will in fact be at the Met tonight. Maybe she’s not going because Christopher Bailey’s taking Lily Donaldson? Or because Gareth Pugh’s Batman Goes on LSD outfits are being worn by someone else? Couldn’t she have sat at the Armani table with Katie Grand, since she is one of his faces?
Other Met Ball news?
Audrey Tatou’s confirmed to wear Chanel tonight which makes perfect sense after this morning’s announcement that she’s the new face of Chanel No. 5.
Enough anticipation already - can it please be 8?!

Happy Met Monday Girls!
Word is, Peter Som will be doing double duty at the ball tonight. He’ll walk the steps once with a top model dressed in Blass, and then again a little bit later with a certain indie film actress with a big movie coming out this summer. The actress, who considered not attending the event, is being helicoptered into the city especially for the event at the behest of A.W.
Hope Peter’s quads are in good shape.
xoxo

Update: According to WWD, the actress is Maggie Gyllenhaal and the model - Jourdan Dunn!
Not only is everybody sort of obsessed with superheroes right now due to the Met Ball’s choice of theme this year, but it looks like the idea has stuck with at least one designer in the longer term sense.
Diane von Furstenberg’s creating a capsule collection for the holiday season in collaboration with DC Comics - the line will be loosely based on Wonder Woman.
The clothes will involve lots of stars and a few dabs of sequins - but she promises it will all be totally wearable.
But apparently DVF’s fascination with Wonder Woman predates the announcement of this year’s Met Ball theme - she says she’s kept a picture of the comic heroine in her notebook for years, and her staff even once gave her a framed photo of herself in the likeness of Wonder Woman as a gift.
Since Diane’s dressing the Olsen twins for Monday’s soiree, we’re kind of hoping she’s used the occasion as a jump start on designing her holiday collection. MK + A in bustiers and little capes?
We’re so there.
Reasons to check out this video on the preparation for the Met ball on Vogue’s site:
1. You get to see Coco mid-superhero makeup
2. You get to see the little finger wave thing she does when talking about Poison Ivy
3. You get to see her throw a couple punches while smiling
4. You get to hear Stephanie Winston Wolkoff explain her strategy for seating (“Who went out with who?”)
Enjoy!

At the blog mode panel at the Met two weeks ago, Harold Koda said Simon Costin’s Victorian looking necklaces were two of the most discussed pieces of the exhibit.
Most people who took the time to post comments were disturbed by the sperm filled vials and dried bird claws, but a few found them really beautiful - and so did we. The gothic-themed jewelry included intricate wire work, polished stones and engraved pendants, a perfect accompaniment to our white t-shirt dominated wardrobe.
Unfortunately, no mere mortal, (except maybe Daphne Guinness?), could get her little hands on the pieces so we might layer a couple of these from Etsy seller Aminyitray instead.
We love the seahorse to the left. There’s also a microscope slide, specimen jars, and even a bobcat tooth necklace.
Sorry, we couldn’t find any with sperm - but we’re pretty sure you’ll be ok with that.
