Coach & Gossip Girl, Like Duh

georgina for poppy for coach.jpgThe best part of this article, in which WWD explains they’ve heard Michelle Trachtenberg’s ‘designing’ a line of jewelry for Coach’s new Poppy line, is when they describe her, “tough-girl meets sugary-sweet vibe.”

That’s Georgina, right? Minus the all-important word “psychopath?”

So she’s making baubles with Coach for spring. The line will focus on colorful crystals and fake pearls with “intricate hardware.” We loved the necklace she wore last night, to the nightmarish American Eagle flagship opening in Times Square, so maybe, despite our increasing distaste for celebrity collaborations, we’ll like what she does for Poppy.

(More on Leighton’s performance once I figure out how to upload videos to Youtube.)

Georgina’s Party

michelle for guess for marie claire.jpgMichelle Trachtenberg’s danced around the fashion crowd for a bit now without actually attaching her name to anything (except for her stint as one of the faces for Candie’s at Kohl’s which she’d probably like us to forget.)

But now she’s throwing a party for Guess.

They’re re-opening their Soho flagship store at the end of July and Georgina Sparks, along with Marie Claire, will host the bash.

Which of course makes us wonder, will Michelle grace an upcoming cover of Marie Claire or join forces with Guess’ sultry models?

It also makes us wonder what went wrong in the world of Gossip Girls-turned-campaign faces. We’re still not over Leighton for Reebok or Ed for K Swiss, and Michelle for Guess is just as disturbing. They all have faces worthy of high fashion campaigns and Michelle and Leighton both have curves we’d love to see in runway clothes.

Make us proud Blake.

Herve's Gotta Balmain Crush

herve aw09 1.JPGSomeone besides Carine is majorly crushing on Chrisophe Decarnin’s designs for Balmain.

Mr. Azria paid tribute to the cult designer with peaked shoulder and slivers of sparkles on very rock star dresses. This was a much harder side of Herve Leger and the best of it belonged on the crowd that spends its nights partying in Paris, not the crowd sitting in the front row.

The Herve show always brings out an eceletic collection of television ‘starlets’. This year offered Sophia Bush, Michelle Trachtenberg, Lucy Liu, one of the new 90210 chicks, Joy Bryant and much to my Mad Men obsessive delight, a glowing January Jones.

They may not be the A-list, but they were a good group of girls to have around when taking a tumble on the runway. Not one, but two models spilled in their spiked platforms. They laughed, the crowd cheered and all was well in the land of commercial fashion.

As for the clothes? Lots and lots of sparkles, rough textures, bandaged dresses, of course, and cut-outs which are apparently the new sheer.

First girl to wear the one-shouldered disco ball get up gets a star in our book.

If The Gossip Girls Were Designers…

gossip girl shoes.jpgEventually, one of the Gossip Girl stars will design some kind of line. Our money’s on Blake being the first, but until then, here’s a sneak peek of what those designs would probably look like -

Blake, Leighton, and even Michelle, have all designed shoes for Stuart Weitzman’s Annual Celebrity Shoe Auction, and so far, Blake’s candy-themed kicks (no doubt courting comparisons like “sweet” and “confectious”) are going for the highest of the three at $300 - Leighton’s in the middle and Michelle’s on the right.

No doubt none of these girls would wear any of these designs (though we bet Georgina would sport Michelle’s metal star ones), but that’s really besides the point.

In other celebrity/designer news, everyone’s tickled that Ashley Olsen’s designing a menswear line for The Row, launching as soon as next Fall. We’re hoping - and willing to bet - that it’ll still be worn by more girls than guys. We definitely see little Grey Ant-style vests and loose trousers in their very near future…

Fashion Is Fun

Notes on the Met Ball

kate at the met ball.jpgWhat I learned at the Met Ball last night:

- Zac Posen is my fashion superhero. Please see his combined superman costume with Kate Mara.

- Models only hang out with models. I felt like a kid in a candy store watching Coco, Anja, Hilary, Chanel, Stam, Lily D., and Doutzen cluster for 15 minutes…although literally no one else cared. Apparently George Clooney’s a bigger deal.

- Michelle Trachtenberg is one of the models. She jumped into Stam’s arms and kiss/kissed everyone else, (while also, interestingly enough, avoiding every single Gossip Girl cast member on the red carpet).

- Philip Lim and Chanel Iman are the perfect couple - and probably the only two people who look amazing in that faded mustard color.

- The Voguettes did not have to wear shades of white. I spotted mint green, gold, purple, and navy - which was on Meredith Melling-Burke who also wore Natalie’s beloved YSL star necklace.

- When I asked Christopher Bailey which superhero he was channelling, he said, “Christopher Bailey!” and giggled.

- Donatella Versace wears a wig.

- Penn Badgley wears red and blue cufflinks - his personal homage to Spiderman - while waiting for Blake Lively to pose for pictures. Apparently, the waiting has become a nightly routine.

- When Pacey stands next to Chuck, Nate and Dan, I long for the teen dramas of my adolescence - even if the clothes are better now.

Michelle Trachtenberg: Blogger

michelle trachtenberg on set.jpgMichelle Trachtenberg’s newest role as Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl has her working overtime.

America’s next favorite villainess is also now a blogger for Cosmo’s website.

Her first post is already up, and it’s pretty clear that the space will largely be devoted to rehashing what she wore on set, and, of course, to plugging her own jewelry line, Bella Veritas, which she’ll probably wear on every episode from now on.

We’re kind of hoping she’ll design a poison ring for certain scenes with Blair, but we’ll see.

Would You Wear

Hi Blake, Hello Leather Pants

alexander wang fall 2008 leather pants.jpgI’ve been begging Natalie and Britt to do a “Would You Wear Leather Pants?” for a month now, but Natalie always says, “Over my dead body.”

But today, I finally got the ultimate vindication: during a field strip to the meatpacking district, we spotted Blake Lively on set (Spice Market! They’re probably still there!) walking in head to toe black and leather pants.

[Side note: We also saw a very poorly styled Michelle Trachtenberg - guess she’s not going to be a lovable character after all.]

But back to Blake’s pants - I first started thinking about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer staple again (oddly enough, another Michelle vehicle) after Alexander Wang’s Fall 2007 80’s supermodel homage collection, which included leather pants just like his Fall 2008 (at left.)

Then, a friend brought back from home a pair of CK’s circa 1997 - terrible, but just the idea that she was thinking about them had my mind reeling.

Cut to Barneys CO-OP in Soho last week where a Rag & Bone pair (for women, let me say here that no man should attempt this look lest he should resemble Bret Michaels) caught my eye. And I mean, if the denim gods at Rag & Bone are sewing their label into slinky leather non-leggings, we should take note.

I just feel like as we move away from Lolita-inflected dresses of seasons past to fall’s body conscious sportswear, it seems right again to see women embracing that ultimate body conscious staple; a literal second skin.

Right?

Another Star is Born

michelle trachtenberg brown hair.jpgIf you had any doubt that Michelle Trachtenberg is the next big prime time thing, think again.

Just four days after the announcement of her induction into the Gossip Girl cast, and we’re already being bombarded with PR e-mail blasts like, “Michelle Trachtenberg selects Lela Rose for the 25th Annual Paley TV Festival for Buffy the Vampire Slayer!”

We’re already wondering which of the GG cast will end up the Katie Holmes of the bunch, the one that actually continues to be legitimately famous well after the show has ended.

We’d normally bet on Blake, just because she’s so cute, or maybe Leighton because it appears that she can really act, but now we’re thinking it could end up Michelle, who has by far the most experience of the cast - and she hasn’t even filmed her first scene yet.

Clearly, at least a mid-summer Teen Vogue cover is in order here.

Gossip Girl, the Countdown

michelle trachtenberg.jpgNow we really can’t wait for the return of Gossip Girl.

The Daily Intel reports that Michelle Trachtenberg, known as Harriet the Spy in our world, is set to play the role of Georgina Sparks (rumored to have been first offered to Mischa Barton), Serena van der Woodsen’s arch enemy, in the coming weeks.

Georgina is supposed to return to Constance Billard after a stint in rehab and shake up the life of GG’s Golden Girl, no doubt by catching the eye of Dan (Michelle is from Brooklyn, after all), and simultaneously playing around with Chuck for good measure.

Look out for fights on the steps of the Met, Serena in Topshop, Blair in Chanel, and Georgina in Heatherette.

But we’re sure when the Met Ball’s worked into the script, we’ll see Teen Vogueette Michelle in a form-fitting, strapless Ralph
