Win a Trip To NYC on Temperley

temperleycontestjennifergarner.jpgTemperley London is once again doing a digital installation for their Spring/Summer 2010 collection, this time at the cool kids locale, Milk Studios. And they just announced a pretty sweet contest, if you’re flexible with your travels schedule next week.

Enter here to win an all-expenses paid trip that includes two plane tickets, a two night stay at the Thompson LES (that would be where Rachel Zoe stayed last season, if you’ve been watching season 2 of the RZP), a meal at Shang, and of course tickets to the presentation. Oh and lest we forget, you’ll also get a private consultation at the Soho store and $1000 to spend.

Um, sounds like something totally worth missing classes or a few days of work for right? If you win, be sure to say hi to me and Britt at Milk. Good luck!

Elise & Jen Embrace the Runway

jen kao to the runway ss09.jpgThe official Fashion Week calendar just dropped and so far we’ve learned that a lot of the big guys - Ralph, Oscar, Calvin - are throwing multiple shows.

But it’s the little ones we’re more interested in; it’s a very good sign when they take the plunge from presentation to runway. As of now, both Elise Overland and Jen Kao will stage proper runway shows for the first time. Last year, Elise featured a small runway within her presentation - the models stood on a platform at one end of the runway for most of the night and walked down every half hour or so. But this year she’ll forgo any standing still for a full on show.

Is the New: Erin Wasson & Justin Timberlake

erin wasson to the TENT.jpgWe weren’t sure why Erin Wasson, free, homeless-person loving, Alexander Wang-wearing rock ‘n’ roll hippie decided to show her AW10 line for RVCA at the commercial epicenter of New York Fashion Week, the Bryant Park tents.

Because though she’s a Maybelline face and Maybelline’s sponsoring the tents, all of her cool friends will be downtown at Milk Studios.

Now we’re hearing she’s not just showing in the tents, but in The Tent, the massive space in which Herve Leger stuffs their starlets, Zac Posen housed five pianos and Justin Timberlake played host to Carine, Anna and J.C. Chasez.

How, exactly, is Erin Wasson going to fill such a huge space? Why, exactly, does she want such a huge space? No idea, though now we know why they’re taking forever to come out with the damn Fashion Week Calendar — they’ll need a good hour cushion before and after the show if they expect everyone to head uptown.

MAC at Milk vs. Bryant Park

johndemseyatmilkstudios.jpgThe first solid details on the tentatively titled MAC at Milk shows we’ve been talking about since the cosmetics company decided to end its partnership with IMG leaving Maybelline to jump in as the official makeup sponsor at Bryant Park.

And the initial list of designers signed on for events at Milk Studios is very, very strong: Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Peter Som, Threeasfour, Vena Cava, Band of Outsiders, Adam Lippes, Altuzarra, Barbara Tfank, Costello Tagliapietra, Erin Fetherston, Pamela Love, Preen and Temperley London.

New Fashion Week Venue?

mac-cosmetics-charlotte-ronson-249x300.jpg.jpegSounds like Milk Studios is going to become one of our most-visited locations come September and New York Fashion Week.

WWD reports this morning that MAC, the usual cosmetics sponsor in the tents, is negotiating to sponsor shows at Milk instead.

This is an interesting development as MAC makeup teams typically create looks for more than 60 shows during any given season. And they bring the best key artists in the business with them.

Milk is a great venue and one that has hosted many a fashion event, and show, in the past. It will be interesting to see who jumps ship from the tents and goes with MAC. Will it simply be smaller designers? Or will any of the bigs head to Milk too.

Streetwalker: High School Sweetheart

streetwalker remy.jpgRemy, Student (I asked her what she’s studying and she’s still in high school to which my friend replied, “Damn, I wish I was that cool and poised in high school).

Got Her: At Mike Figgis’ photography opening at Milk last night (which you should really go check out).

Stalked Her: Because an olive green/hot pink combo always works, because I had to know why everyone in the room wanted to talk to her and because she was the only person wearing actual color.

Shot Her: Because she was basically wearing a fashionable sack and looked amazing. Also, because when I said, “Hi, I’m from Fashionista,” she gave me the biggest hug ever.

She Says:
“I’m in one of the pictures! I know Mandy, from Seventh House, and when Mike started the project she called me to ask if I’d pose, which of course I did because Mike’s amazing!” (Which explains why everyone wanted to talk to her.) “I’m on Seventeen’s style council, I love throwing random things together.”

We Say:
If Seventeen folds, will you be our style council?

Temperley Ditches the Runway

temperley spring 09.jpgAlice Temperley’s the latest designer to cancel her Fall 09 runway show and the first outside of New York.

The British designer, who just returned to London Fashion Week after years in New York, has been planning this for over a year.

She, along with various directors, artists and photographers, will stage a series of installations in New York, London and Paris in collaboration with MILK Studios and Starworks. They’ll be half digital, half live and distributed to the media and customers just as soon as editors and buyers get a peek. The concept debuts February 18th during New York Fashion Week.

“The four seasonal installations will allow us to communicate our brand message and aesthetic to a larger international audience while supporting both economic and environmental challenges,” says Lars, Alice’s husband and the company’s CEO.

He’s right - each season the idea of sending ten editors and five buyers from the same magazine or store all over the world for a month sounds more and more antiquated and becomes less and less necessary.

With our love divided equally between the internet and trips to Paris, it’s hard to say just which side we’re on.

Streetwalker: La Belle et le Balenciaga

streetwalkers.JPGThe Albright girls from the Albright NYC Fashion Library.

Got Them: At the Free Arts auction at Milk Studios last night.

Stalked Them: Well, actually, we were stalking Clive Owen but he was nowhere to be found.

Shot Them: Because they stood out among the Chuck Closes and Marilyn Minters hanging on the walls. Oh, also because we’ve never seen real girls rock Balenciaga, and it was kind of amazing.

They Say: “Real girls should wear Balenciaga! It’s actually depressing how much they dumb down the collection from the runway to the racks. I mean, the poufy sleeves have like a quarter the volume they’re supposed to! Can you believe their shape was actually held by styrofoam?!”

We Say: Only Nicolas could make styrofoam work.

McQueen Gets Wet

Picture 2.pngPipes burst on 14th street last week, flooding, among other things, Alexander McQueen’s New York showroom.

While it rained inside, stores closed, PR girls cried, and very expensive bags got very wet.

Now, it’s being reported that McQueen will host a mini-show of his AW08 collection at Milk Studios for his best clients and favorite fashion press.

The fashion industry’s favorite photo studio is right across the street from the still damaged showroom. Which means there are some stunning dresses stashed somewhere within a one-block radius.

First one to spot feathers sticking out of a garbage bag wins.
