Scarlett Johansson’s rumored to be the new face of Dolce & Gabbana.
She’ll front their Spring 09 campaign, already shot by Mert and Marcus according to Style.com, though for beauty or fashion, no one knows.
Scarlett’s experienced either way. She’s posed for L’Oreal and Louis Vuitton, both of which should prepare her for Stefano and Domenico in case her numerous red carpet Dolce wearing moments weren’t enough.
Tthis puts the celeb count at three this spring with Katie Holmes for Miu Miu and Madonna for Louis Vuitton. The group model shots are at a bajillion and we wonder how either strategy is recession friendly.
Meanwhile, we’re secretly hoping Scarlett makes a cameo on Model.Live, since Cato Van Ee is in D&G’s Spring campaign, too.
She can address the major differences between acting and modeling and tell us how she strikes such a delicate Dolce/Stella balance.
Looks like the Model.Live series proved very successful for Conde Nast.
They’ve just announced an ongoing partnership with video publishing platform Brightcove, for at least five of their magazine sites (Wired, Portfolio, Self, Parade and Glamour).
Translation? You’re about to see a lot more video content on Conde sites, powered by lots of advertising from companies that are leery of sinking their dollars into print pages, especially since even Conde magazines haven’t been doing very well.
It’s no secret that Conde’s kind of been behind in terms of getting their websites up to 2008 standards (though they’ve recently made strides by hiring a bevy of blogging babes over at Glamour) so this definitely signals a shift in their approach to survival.
So does this move from one of the biggest media companies in the world signal a shift in how the magazine industry itself needs to operate to survive (sans network television)? Guess we’ll see.
Rewind. Back to New York for just one moment.
Less than twelve hours before my really early morning flight to Heathrow, I finally got a chance to check in with VogueTV’s Model.Live girls again, and see how New York was treating them.
It took so long because 1) I was super busy and 2) they were super busy and 3) everyone’s busy before, during and after Fashion Week.
The girls, who cumulatively walked everything from Marc by Marc to Chris Benz to Marchesa, are having a blast so far. Their emotions differ, from Cato, who is grateful to be cast in anything, to Austria, who’s never heard of the designers but is having the time of her life, to Madeline, who’s a seasoned pro next to the other two.
Read on for their New York impressions (and you can read tons more at their Bebo blogs) - and stay tuned for their tunes after London this week…

So officially, Fashion Week doesn’t start until Friday morning.
Unofficially, everyone’s so excited they decided to pack themselves into sweltering hot Gemma last night to celebrate the Express sponsored launch of VogueTV’s Model.Live, (yes we know it’s already been on for weeks but that’s so not the point).
Anyway, we’ll be checking in with the girls, Madeline, Cato and Austria in New York, London and Paris, (Milan will be done virtually), to see how they’re doing, what they’re learning and whether or not castings are still fun twenty days into the process.
So far we have these two pictures for you and the fact that Cato’s first show of the week will be Nicole Miller.
Get used to their faces - we think you’ll be seeing them a lot.

Here’s the second episode of VogueTV’s Model Live.
It tracks Cato’s last days at home in Holland before taking off for New York Fashion week (though we’re betting that’s not really her plane in the sky since we still have a couple of weeks).
Cato’s parents express a natural anxiety about fame and fashion. They acknowledge that yes, their daughter is beautiful and “magical” in front of the camera and pointedly note that a successful modeling career won’t degrade her intellectual qualities. In fact, Cato’s little sister says, “They say that beautiful people are smarter because everything’s symmetrical -even the brain!”
We meet Cato’s boyfriend Simon, too. His standout moment comes when he’s trying to convince himself, and us, that he has nothing to worry about and says, “What happens in the fashion industry? Drugs!”
Simon, relax. Cato, we’ll see you backstage.
