She’s Back Y’all: Gemma Ward’s not going anywhere, thank god. She’s just taking a mini-break from modeling. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if she got back into it without losing those twenty pounds? {Fashionologie}
Blurry Blogging: An even deeper look into the world of fashion blogging. Do you embrace the industry? Stay away from it? Can you be a part of it and still be a real-life blogger? {Blackbook}
One More Time: The age-old, never-ending debate about whether or not girls can be both into fashion and smart, or more importantly, taken seriously. {Telegraph}
Getting Technical: Nicholas Kirkwood and some other major players in the shoe industry teach us all about how they make heels more comfortable from materials to techniques. We love a mini-tutorial. {NY Times}
Green’s Growth: Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Sir Phillip Greene, except of course the answer to the age old question, can he finally conquer America. So far so good, but even Kate Moss can only get Topshop so far. {Bloomberg}
Party Time: Heidi Klum and Seal threw their annual Halloween bash in LA this weekend. We spy crows, Gaga, a single lady and best of all Kelly Osbourne and Luke Worrall as bacon and eggs. {Modelinia}
Bazaar’s New Moon: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are apparently on the next cover of Harper’s Bazaar. Vampire anything “At Every Age” seems rather hard to manage with them not aging and all. Pattinson’s also landed the December cover of Vanity Fair though he, unlike Shia and the others, isn’t christened the next _____.{WWD} & {VanityFair}
West Coast Style: The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists took their show on the road to Los Angeles, the Chateau Marmont to be exact. And there was a Lisa Love sighting which made us miss her days on The Hills. {Vogue}
In Her Shoes: Holy crap. Constance Jablonski walked in a whopping 72 shows this season with Liu Wen right on her tail with 70. Well done, ladies. {Models.com via The Fashion Spot}
Congrats to the Klum/Samuels: Doesn’t it seem like Heidi Klum was pregnant forever this time around? Well she finally had that baby girl, and named her Lou. Awww. {Modelinia}
All About Arlenis: Who knew she liked Christian and merengue music? Not us. Also in the likes column: boxing, Rachel Roy jumpsuits, massages and that Oscar de la Renta dark blue dress. {W}
Agent No More: Vivienne Westwood’s son Joe Corré is leaving Agent Provacateur. Word is he’ll keep his shares, but will no longer be involved in the creative—instead focusing on his menswear line, A Child of the Jago. {Vogue UK}
Say What Alber: Remember when Alber told The New Yorker he’d never do a diffusion line? And then when he did do a diffusion line? Someone did and someone asked and he just couldn’t handle it. {ElleUK}
On McQueen: Try to break up your Sarah Mower with other important critics. Like Hilary Alexander’s Alexander McQueen review; it’s twice as long and has a video of the show (since Lady Gaga killed the initial live stream for most of us). {The Telegraph}
The Fat Lady Is Not Singing Yet: It’s still unclear how many more names will be added to the 180 that already lost their jobs this week at Condé Nast. How un-fun are those flights back from Paris going to be? {NY Observer}
They All Fall Down: We’re rather partial to the “Drop It Like You’re Hot” but what’s your favorite Falling Model dance? What would have happened to me if I ever tried to put on those McQueen shoes defies all known categories. {The Frisky}
Spot the Angel: Miranda Kerr walked Balenciaga yesterday, looking tres Parisian runway appropriate and less like Orlando’s paparazzi-fodder lady friend. Not that that look isn’t gorgeous too. {StyleFile}
A Scent We’ll Never Buy: Kim Kardashian used to think perfume was made by putting flowers in a blender. She’s also famous for inexplicable reasons, including a sex tape with Brandy’s little brother. But she’s still got a fragrance deal. And I just died a little inside. Also, if those rumors about Sarah Palin getting a beauty contract are even vaguely accurate, you guys may have to institutionalize me. {WWD}
It’s Rick Owens Day Around Here: And we wouldn’t mind if every day was. I’m still dying over this leather jacket that I can’t afford. So maybe I’ll soothe myself with something from his collaboration with Eastpak. {Vogue UK}
My Favorite Martian: Daria returned to the runways this morning at Balmain. And apparently, the alien-like beauty of Tanya D. will grace us with its presence once again very soon. We missed your boundless energy backstage in New York, Miss T! {Fashin}
LSD’s Burial Outfit?: Apparently it may be a Julian Louie dress. And yes, that’s vaguely morbid. But we still love the commentary on the Vogue-ette’s Fashion Week choices. {StyleFile}
Copping To It: The Nina Ricci relaunch tonight in Paris will be a low-key affair. Our desire to see what Peter does, still anything but low-key. {FWD}
Live at 7:45: Twenty8Twelve is streaming their show from London on their site. That would be 2:45 this afternoon if you’re here in NYC and you guys elsewhere can take it from there. Enjoy. {Twenty8Twelve}
Ambassador Bundchen: Gisele has been named a UN Goodwill Ambassador, focusing on environmental issues, clean water, and all around saving the planet. Her powers did not enable her to score a win in NY against the Jets for the hubby yesterday, however. {Modelinia}
Sitting Down With Yoko: Cory Kennedy talks to Ms. Ono (and Sean) about ThreeAsFour, her new album, and why she wouldn’t co-write with John. {NylonTV}
Modelinia is looking for both full and part-time interns starting now throughout the fall semester.
You must, of course, love models as well as the fashion industry. Tasks will include researching models, fashion, beauty, and charities, assisting the editorial director on shoots and at events, basic office work, assisting the photo department with photo research and sometimes contacting publicists, fashion houses or beauty companies on behalf of Modelinia.
In order to do those, you’ll need basic knowledge of how an editorial website runs. Some sort of blogging, Photoshop, CMS and/or photo researching experience would be great, too. You should be articulate and organized and able to write fun posts and promotional copy if necessary. Having a positive, reliable, “can do” attitude is the number one requirement.
Agreed, Garance: I feel the pretty much the same way about tattoos. I still want one but just can’t decide what to get. Though I’m also forever grateful I never did anything ridiculously embarrassing as a teen during the 90s. Plus, this girl’s tat is way cool. {Garance}
Rain, Rain: Style.com found some fancy people who refuse to cave in to the wettest summer in the history of mankind (okay, but it feels like it) and still wear Givenchy wedges and Jane Mayle platforms. They’re fun to look at, but we’ve given up. {Style}
Double Your Pleasure: Raquel doing the masculine and the feminine thing for JPG. Well played Inez and Vinoodh. {Modelinia}
We Love the 80s: So do KT Auleta, Brian Molloy, and Missy Rayder. See how it all came together. {Dazed Digital}
The Ultimate How To: We know this was yesterday, but it’s brilliant. So in case you missed it, go on. {Refinery29}
The Creep Factor: Donna Karan’s still looking to save a few dollars with virtually constructed ad campaigns in lieu of Kate Moss’ daily fees, but putting Toni Garrn’s head on Sasha P’s body is a bit much. {Fashionologie}
Ouchie: Modelinia’s built a slideshow of models falling including legendary moments like Naomi at Vivienne and Prada SS09. Not so well known, but infinitely worse? A model at Gharani Strok 06. {Modelinia}
Dolled Up: There exist in the world 25 Terry Richardson action figures. Sometimes things are just so right. {Refinery29 via Slamhype}
Shine On: What does “shine” mean to Twiggy, Mischa, and Kate? Sass & Bide knows. Now you can too. {Vogue UK}
More Puppies! Modelinia continues to fill the void left in my life by George the Jack Russell being out of town with more model dogs. This time on video and including a trip to visit Santa with Chanel Iman’s very excited pooch. {Modelinia}
Up the Rabbit Hole: Where did the bunny ears come from? Marc discusses. {Fashionologie}
Through His Lens: “I was in bed with Charlotte Rampling. I felt like the king of the castle.” Indeed, Juergen Teller. Indeed. {The Independent}
A Softer, Smoother Madge: More shots from Madonna’s LV campaign have hit the interwebs. And they’re just as crazily retouched as the first one we saw. {Catwalk Queen}
Ads, Ads, and More Ads: Campaign shots abound over at Modelinia and it’s making us feel the need for a trip to the country. {Modelinia}
Tommy Wants To Rule the World: We love the fashion paparazzi shots on Jak & Jil. We also love Tommy Ton’s taste in music. {DazedDigital}
Apparently do it yourself or how to beauty videos are all the rage on YouTube and since Elle has an actual stable of beauty editors in house and an endless supply of experts on call they figured they’d tap into that market.
Emily Dougherty, Elle’s beauty and fitness director, told WWD, “We want to incorporate as many parts of the Elle brand as possible on the Web.”
So VideoStar - that’s what they’re calling it - will feature both amateur and professional makeup artists doing instructional videos for online viewers with loads of Cover Girl, probably, since they’ve signed on to sponsor for a year.
Great, between this and Modelinia’s mini-movies we’ll probably never get any work done again.
That Girl: So Juliette Lewis might not be starring in that Erin Fetherston flick, but red-haired Columbia kid and musician Reni Lane is. {Nylon}
Chanel-o: Karen Elson’s already shot Chanel’s Cruise ads with Baptiste Giabiconi and Karl behind the camera. She’s got the wig, the high waisted not-pants and the jewels. We’re jealous. {Modelinia}
Goodie-Nude-Shoes: Around this time of year we consistently wish we could change the shade of half the shoes in our closet from black to nude. So for your shopping wish list, enjoy. {FabSugar}
This Is Awkward: Ginnifer Goodwin tries to embrace her inner Madonna for June’s W. She’s adorable, but looks like she could’ve used a few shots of tequila pre-shoot. {W}
Slow Poke: It took Andre a bit longer than the rest of us to sum up his Met Ball thoughts, but in this condensed version of Life With Andre he declares Rihanna best dressed. {VogueDaily}
A Look Inside: Todd Selby gets into Julia Restoin-Roitfeld’s apartment. We spy white fur, Pamela Love jewels, an LV blanket, so many shoes and lots of YSL & Kiehl’s beauty products. {TheSelby}
Say It’s So!: Starting next week 60 Minutes goes into summer hiatus with re-runs which means Sunday must be the big night! Curl up with a chicken bone to watch Morley Safer follow Anna in and out of the Fall shows. {Gawker}
If anyone out there’s more excited than we about this year’s Met theme, it’s Modelinia.
They’ve declared May, “History of Models” month and snagged Model as Muse curator Kohle Yohannan to guide us through beautiful people from 1920 to today.
Here’s a peek at what the month holds - interviews with Gilles Bensimon, Garren, Paulina Porizkova, Erin Wasson and Mario Testino who says, “If a girl looks beautiful, you can put a pot on her head and people will say, ‘Oh my god, it looks incredible!’”
Warning: Once you start watching videos on Modelinia, it is very, very hard to stop.
But this one, featuring May Anderson and her oh-so-eloquent description of how one turns from model to designer, is worthy of its own recognition.
The Danish model had a fear of looking back on her life in fashion and thinking, “What did I create? Nothing.”
So her friend made a really awesome logo that said Chicks With Guns. Then they watched Scarface together and really liked it when Tony said, “My whole life is to get my name on a chick’s ass.” They thought that was funny so they made a pair of jeans just so that they could put the cool logo on girls’ asses.
Does she realize she still has to answer, “Nothing?”
You emerge from the subway, it’s 9:17, and you get stuck on a narrow sidewalk behind someone trying to walk in heels when they so clearly cannot. You can’t go around them left or right, because they’re walking smack in the middle of the pedestrian lane for balance, fun - who knows what.
Next time, you should walk right up behind her and say, “Hey, have you seen those videos from Anastassia Khozissova on Modelinia? You might want check them out.” Because they teach women how to walk in heels - ok, they’re really more for fun, but perhaps should be required viewing as part of Phys Ed.
Tune in to see the full clip tomorrow at 9am, on Modelinia.
If you’re as obsessed with all the Modelinia videos as much as we are, and are looking for an internship, listen up:
Job duties: Research info on models, fashion, beauty and charities; Basic admin (copying, faxing, filing, sending messengers); Assist Photo Editor and Researcher with photo research; Contact PR/fashion/beauty companies on behalf of Modelinia; etc.
Requirements: A basic working knowledge of the running of an editorial website, previous experience, ability to write fun articles and promotional copy, a good attitude, a passion for all things model-related, etc. Photoshop and CMS are a plus, and they can offer college credit.
So if you can offer three full days per week over the next fifteen weeks, contact modelinia[at]aol.com. (And say hello to Heidi for us.)
We don’t know - and can’t imagine - why, so we’ll just give you the facts:
1. Ashton Kutcher is starting another television show, this time for the CW (home of the fashion-centric Gossip Girl), and this time about models.
2. It’s going to be based on his experiences having grown up as a model from Iowa, though it looks like it’s supposed to be fiction.
3. Actress/former Keds girl/handbag designer Mischa Barton will star in the series as Sonia, “a successful model who keeps the competition at bay but also advises the younger ones, at the end of the month.”
Which kind of makes it sound like it’s supposed to be a fake reality show, which sounds perfectly in line with the rest of the information.
That rumor we spread about Mark Fast doing a line for Topshop? It's true. And it's in last week's Sunday Telegraph magazine which means it was true before we even said anything and we've had it in our lap since... Read More
