Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’ve probably seen the abundance of bib necklaces in stores and on runways.
So if you’re looking for a good addition to your spring wardrobe that won’t break the bank, we suggest this three-flower version for $110. While it reminds us of something we might find at a flea market or in the back of our mother’s closet via her flower child days, this GS Lillian rendition made of brass, ceramic and glass beads will probably be a little sturdier.
We think this can go with a little sundress as easily as it could layered under a spring-transition blazer or sweater, but if you aren’t feeling the black, the big boggle also comes in green with coral detailing and in easy, classic white.
The only problem? The piece is on pre-order and will take 1 - 3 weeks to ship, but just think: By the time you get it, the weather will have made up its mind about how to wear it.

We’ve been avoiding the MOMA store on Spring St. because we can’t go in and out without buying a piece of really amazing jewelry.
But we have little self control when it comes to shopping so we’ll be heading there after work for this Murano glass bubble necklace by Marina and Susanna Sent.
The artists, who grew up in a family of Venetian glass blowers, strung the lightweight glass balls on a thick white rope to create one of the most perfect summer necklaces we’ve ever seen.
Will pair with a strapless dress, layer with lapis beads over a white t-shirt a la Dries, and wear it pretty much every day for the next three months.
We might even blow some pink Bubble Yum for extra effect.
Before the grandiose Erickson Beamon birthday necklace gesture of Gossip Girl ‘07, we had no idea people actually cared about Erickson Beamon.
Britt recalls from her days in retail that the hideously overpriced costume jewelry would sit untouched for months, only randomly purchased by total randoms. In fact, the only time she ever touched any of it was when it needed fixing - the polished rocks (yes, actual rocks) were known for falling from their settings a bit too often.
So we were a little surprised that last week’s big accessories news was a tame SJP outfit topped with a mélange of mismatched Beamon baubles, for which we hope she was dearly paid.
And today’s first e-mail pitch? “Media Alert: Dita von Teese wearing Erickson Beamon!” from the Phillips de Pury party.
Somebody over there’s working overtime to get glass and plated gold that starts at $700 a pop on everyone’s mind - the question is, who’ll be paid next for a red carpet plug? Paging Rihanna…

Fashionista Crew,
I found this in People’s Style Magazine for this month. When I went onto the Kitson website they still didn’t have it up and couldn’t find it at any other website so I took a pic of the magazine picture. Thought it was interesting that someone was already copying the necklace when it’s not even out yet, and neither is the copy!
Ok, Thanks,
Katie
Dear Katie,
We can’t believe it either, especially since the copy is terrible and the original is worth a trip to Tahiti.
Thanks,
Fashionista
A chunky fire engine red scarf/necklace catwalked down the runway for Iceberg Fall 2008.
We fell in love immediately, but we also realized we could make about a dozen in various colors, lengths, and knots, all for about the same price as the original. So we decided to try it out - and maybe in the future we’ll go for some more complicated knots (ones from our day camp lanyard making days)…
What You’ll Need:
- 2 Yards of Cotton Jersey, about $16 at Mood
- Scissors
Um… that’s it.

Accessories: One of our first thoughts in the morning.
Today’s subway side dreams: The heavy costume jewelery from the recent Paris runways.
The heavy, statement necklaces seen at Louis Vuitton, John Galliano and Yves Saint Laurent, have us thinking of inventive (read: cheaper) ways of weighing down our own necks.
So we’re eyeing this sterling-silver filigree necklace (breastplate?) from designer Catherine Weitzman from Brooklyn boutique Sodafine.
We’re picturing it as a way of offsetting the flimsy dresses we’ve been collecting the past month.
Or maybe as a kind of cute nod to the gladiators we’re sure we’ll buy once again in a few weeks?
Vogue UK reports the return of the Carrie necklace -
UK shopping site Icecool is resurrecting the nameplate in all its tacky glory in honor of of the Sex and the City movie.
But we secretly think (ok, hope) that this has more to do with the comeback of The Hills.
Maybe if Heidi gets one, too, she and Lauren can go back to BFF?

From the moment we saw YSL’s star necklace, we knew we had to have it, one way or the other. But since it’ll probably retail for just under a bajillion dollars, we knew we’d have to be crafty about it.
So when we stumbled upon the Plexi Ice Cream necklace on fred flare, we knew we had it figured out.
The plan: Buy six or seven of the ice cream cones, cleverly string them onto some fat shiny ribbon (silver?) so they lay in a row like the YSL original, and tell people it’s custom made.
Total cost: around $80. Cuteness: Infinite.
We’re always looking for ways to drop subtle hints with our clothing.
That’s why we’re so into this simple charm necklace from Stereoette.
We suggest wearing it around boyfriends/boyfriend prospects against a solid and striking background like a purple tee, to make the charm and its message as clear as possible - you’ve always wished you were the girl in romantic comedies, right?
The best part? You could totally DIY the charm into any color (polka dots, maybe?) with a little spray paint and innovation.
And if you’re really handy in that arena, you could even figure out a way to hang the little frog from one of Marc’s chunky charm bracelets.
We know that ever since the cell phone, watches are kind of obsolete. But we think you’ll find this silver locket version too cute to pass up.
It has the look of a necklace perfect for layering with thinner strands and vintage dresses, but it’s also utilitarian, which is a pretty cool mix.
Think of it as what Flava Flav would wear if he was a sentimental girl.
And if you find yourself in a boring situation, you could pretend to play with your locket, but then sneak a peak at the time when the right moment strikes.
In any case, for only $22, you might just want to keep it around for the next time your phone battery dies.
