Meet the Master

bejeweled louboutins bg.jpgThis Thursday, October 22, you can meet Christian Louboutin. The master of the six inch heel will be at Bergdorf Goodman later this week to answer all your nagging shoe questions.

You should, by now, know why his soles are red, but you could ask:

1. How he picks which designers to work with.

2. If he has a favorite shoe.

3. If he had to play favorites, would he choose Jonathan Kelsey, Charlotte Olympia or Nicholas Kirkwood?

4. If you have the money for one pair of Louboutins, should you go with black, nude or something wild and crazy?

Make sure you RSVP here!

Internships

Black Frame Needs Helping Hands

nick kirkwood shoes from j and j.jpgPhoto from Jak&JilBlack Frame, the PR company whose client list includes Rodarte, Nicholas Kirkwood, Opening Ceremony, Viktor & Rolf and Visionaire, needs both interns and Fashion Week volunteers.

The good news is you don’t have to be a college student for either one, but you should have some fashion industry experience for both. As an intern, you’ll need to commit to at least three months starting now. You’ll help track and organize samples and press clippings and you should love fashion and be an excellent communicator and team player, especially under pressure.

Notes from St. Trop: Shoe Edition

kjacquessandal.jpgAs a veteran shopper, and of course being in the fashion industry, I had a vague notion of K. Jacques, only because some of my fave retailers—NAP and Matches—carry the shoe, or rather sandal, brand.

But having spent five days in the utterly gorgeous Port Grimaud (about 10 mins from St. Tropez), I can now say unequivocally that in this spot, K. Jacques rules. The line is a mainstay, much like cassis cocktails and Club 55.

A pair of K-Jacques is as important to fashionistas here as Louboutins are to Parisiennes and Nicholas Kirkwoods are to Londoners.

High As a Thigh

prada aw09 thigh high boots.jpgI’ve spent almost three of the past four weeks in California which means I’ve worn pretty much nothing but old Levi cut-offs, white James Perse tees and my red Saltwater sandals.

It’s been wonderful.

But yesterday it was back to reality, which means gearing up for fall, for fashion week, for September issues etc. and while dicking around online, I changed my mind. Now, I want, need, must have a pair of thigh high boots. The problem is a) which pair and b) will anyone make a pair for under $1000 that don’t scream Pretty Woman and then of course c) what do I wear them with?

The thing is, while they were on almost every runway, I half expected them to elude the actual market given the state of the economy, as if fashion would pay attention to a reality other than its own. Sure enough, the boots are everywhere. Ideally, of course, I’d have a spare $1,470 for the Brian Atwoods which I’m tempted to call the originals. And if those didn’t fit over my slightly-larger-than-LSD-thighs I could always go for a flat version from Chloe for $1,235. But I’m barely 5’4” so I’d probably do better in something like these Pradas. In my dreams though, I’m wearing the Louboutin-meets-Catwoman version (though they might me higher than thigh) because I don’t know if the Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte masterpieces are even being made. The only high street ones I’ve spotted are suede, Topshop, and called the Brittany - a sign?

Maybe, but as of this morning they’ve already disappeared. What’s a girl to do?

Fashion Is Fun

Clean Sweeping for a Cause

hot pink nick kirkwoods.jpgBefore you balk at giving up your shoes, think of that hot pink pair of heels in the back of your closet that you wore to one party and haven’t touched since. Then, consider a good cause.

PUMA’s partnering with charity Soles4Souls, a charity that donates shoes to 125 countries in need, from June 15 to July 20. They’re asking shoppers to donate any lightly worn shoes at PUMA locations and receive 30% off for new PUMA kicks.

They’re even setting up two massive 10-foot tall donation boxes for people to donate their shoes and snag a pair of Soles4Souls flip-flops with their discount - one in Union Square on June 15 and the other on the Santa Monica Pier on June 23.

We’ve been having trouble closing our closet anyway, so needless to say, we’re in.
