Zac Says, “VOTE!”

The fashion industry’s been kind of obsessed with this election.

Everyone gasped when Michelle wore Thakoon, then again when she wore J.Crew. Everyone panicked when Palin spent $150,000 at Saks and Neiman’s and everyone cringed when she wore knee-high boots.

Sonia Rykiel and Jean de Castelbjac sent Obama dresses down their Spring runway, Nicole Farhi sprinkled her looks with Obama pins and Stella McCartney left personal notes encouraging her runway audience to “V.O.T.E. Obama.”

And now, with four days to go, Zac Posen’s making his message loud and clear. So far, we love his outfit best.

Would You Wear Spring’s Head Gear?

spring headgear all over.jpgOr the more appropriate question is, “Will you wear spring’s head gear?”

The runways have been inundated with hats. Catherine Holstein wrapped whole sweaters around the heads of her models. PPQ added I Dream of Jeannie-like toppers to their ruffly dresses and Luella splashed retro veiled hats and riding caps across her floral outfits.

We think some, like the sweaters at Holstein, might look super cool on the runway but stop short of realistically working on a regular girl’s head. Same goes for the PPQ hats - they’d induce a giggle or two at the even the most wacky New York party. And the swim caps at D&G - are they serious?

Luella’s little hats, while cute on Ali, Jourdan et. al, are the kind of thing we want to rock when we’re eighty-year-old eccentric ladies with a murky fashion past.

Right now, we’d love one of the sun hats from Trovata and Nicole Farhi, or even a mini Mary Poppins hat from Marc. And we’d obviously rock the giant bobby pins from Basso & Brooke, but we’re not even sure those are for sale.

If you don’t usually wear hats, will this spring’s wide selection make you change your mind? Or is this a look better left to runways/editorials/ads/models rather than mere mortals?

Where'd You Go Coco?

coco for nicole farhi 2.JPGWe were walking down Bond St. on our way from the Brown’s party for Behati’s boyfriend’s jewelry to Bloomsbury Square for Henry’s party, (that’s a lot of B’s), when we spotted Coco in Nicole Farhi’s windows.

We were excited to see her a) because Nicole Farhi doesn’t exist stateside so we had no idea Coco was the face of her Fall collection and b) because though we’re thrilled Jourdan Dunn, Ali Michael and Raquel Zimmerman are ruling London’s runways, we do miss Coco.

Hopefully she’ll make it to Paris, but these can hold you over until then.

P.S. It’s kind of awkward to place the ad for the dress behind the actual dress, no?

DIY Contest via Nicole Farhi

NICOLE FARHI SS09.JPGThe first person to DIY the tulle leggings at Nicole Farhi, and send us a pair, wins a prize.

Not sure what it is yet, but you’ll want it.

Promise.

The Brit-only designer showed a Peter Som-inspired collection of dresses and skirts layered over sheer leggings and long sleeved shirts for a delicate, if not at times confusing, look at the Royal Opera House yesterday morning.

We loved the way Farhi threw a matching printed bra and skirt over a differently printed top, or the way the stylist did. We loved the Betty-Draper-goes-to-the-beach looks toward the end. And we loved the sun hats and the orange blush that made it look like the models were trying really hard not to smile.

There was nothing fashion forward about it, which is especially noticeable in London, but it was pretty - and comfortable.
