President Obama rocked some (perhaps questionably-fitting) Levi’s when he threw out the first pitch at the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday, and we’re still convinced that Levi’s make the best cutoffs.
And now the jeans brand is encouraging Americans to embrace their heritage and show some American pride as a part of their Go Forth Campaign.
They are asking you to submit videos, photos, text messages, or audio files on any subject that reflects today’s new pioneering America spirit in some way.
Or, you can complete one of the tasks posted on the website, and show how you think that task reflects America.

There has been a lot of debate among historians on whether or not the US bombing of Hiroshima was, in the long run, a necessity to end World War II, but there is no debate about how devastating the event and its aftereffects were.
Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake grew up in Hiroshima and was there during the bombings. He later lost his mother to radiation exposure, and understandably does not like dwelling on the event.
But after President Obama’s recent hopes to rid our modern world of nuclear weapons, Miyake wrote a moving piece for The New York Times in which he hopes that this is the beginning of the end of nuclear warfare.

About Bloody Time: The NY Times finally caught on to the whole vampire obsession. Phew, now we can believe it’s real. However I do thank them for giving me an excuse to run a picture of Edward Cullen, er, Robert Pattinson. {NY Times}
Say It Ain’t So: Isn’t it bad enough that Christian Audigier has basically taken over entire blocks of Los Angeles? Now he’s threatening to show in Paris. {FWD via Vogue UK}
DC Style: Of the non-Obama variety, that is. Check out what the kids are wearing on Dupont Circle. {Washington Post}
Heaven On Earth: Coco Rocha discovers the utter beauty that is the “beauty closet”, especially the one at Vogue. {VogueDaily}

Have you made plans for the Fourth of July yet? We hope you’re going to be catching some awesome fireworks or grilling out at a sweet barbecue. The American patriotic spirit has even gone global, thanks to Obama-mania.
The latest in the ever-growing category of Obama-inspired fashion (see: Rodarte for Sonia Rykiel) comes from Italian shoemaker Cesare Paciotti - an Obama Tennis Shoe. It’s very simple: a white sneaker emblazoned with the good ol’ stars and stripes.
We don’t mean to be anglophiles, but in the past if we thought about wrapping a flag around our bodies, we’d usually choose the Union Jack.
But now we’re thinking twice about it thanks to Cesare’s cool American look. While the president served as inspiration, the flag detail pretty much embraces the whole country.
So come the Fourth, let’s wave—and wear—our flags proudly.

Girl Crush: We’ve had a major one on Kim Gordon since our days of reading Sassy. Time and this video have only made our hearts grow fonder. {Style}
Winner!: My soccer team won its championship game last week and I took home what I though was a pretty kick ass trophy for Brooklyn co-ed soccer. But it would not impress this art director. {TheMoment}
In Memoriam: Alexander McQueen’s sequined Isabella Blow dress is going for $1098 - it was originally $7390. {Gilt}
I Wanna Be a Supermodel: But I never will be. So if you think you can, you should probably apply to Elite Chicago’s online modeling competition. {Elite}
Catherine Malandrino Logs On: The designer and Make Me a Supermodel judge has a new website. It’s really colorful and pretty, just like her clothes. There’s a shopping section now, too. {CatherineMalandrino}

We’re bombarded with pitches throughout the day, some random, some funny, some awesome and some, like this, that are so awkward and inappropriate, we simply must share.
Actually, we’ve never been so compelled to share.
Behold the graphic from Mia Destino, a lingerie company banking on both the success of our new president and everyone’s desire to look like a can-can girl.
The tag-line for their Yes We Can-Can lingerie set?
“Because if Obama CAN - so CAN you!”
See what they’re doing there?

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s collection was supposed to be inspired by muppets, though the backdrop was a pixellated mouth and the clothes more about stuffed animals in general than muppets in particular.
There was one cape made of actual Kermit the Frogs and a skirt featuring that pink muppet whose name I can’t recall. But one minute, there were leopard beanie babies on a model’s hands and the next, a t-shirt dress printed with Michael Jackson’s face. There were plastic trench coats and dresses made, literally, out of laminated hair that was in the best case a twisted ode to Margiela - but that’s probably thinking about it too hard. And the cat heels weren’t just leopard print, they had tails and whiskers, too.
When one of the boys walked out in a Sesame Street print suit I thought of Jeremy Scott. And when it was followed by girls in money-printed dresses I thought of Jeremy Scott. But then at the end, models threw Obama-printed money into the crowd, and I thought of Gaultier.
At least we know he had more than one reference point.

Did you know Diane Von Furstenberg has her own Facebook page?
You probably did. But did you know you can now use it for sales?
Apparently, she’s trying to really reach out to the youth, kind of like Obama, and look at where that led him.
If you search “DVF” and click on her fan page, you’ll see this pretty DVF graphic offering 30% off over the next five days on Fall ready-to-wear and accessories (we hope that includes the comic book). If you’re not on Facebook for some reason, just enter FACEBOOKSALE on DVF.com at checkout.
We’re delighted that Diane’s tapping into the youth market in a way that actually works with youth, especially since we don’t want her pretty wrap dresses to go away with our mother’s generation. Here’s to hoping for what we think is the next logical step, sales or design previews popping up on your newsfeed, because wouldn’t you love to read, “Those Miu Miu flats on your Net-a-Porter wish list are now on sale” first thing in the morning?
