Steele Trap

coventry fall 09.jpgMaguire Steele needs interns.

The New York-based PR company reps Billy Reid, Duckie Brown, Coventry, Timo Weiland’s upcoming line, Odin, and a bunch of new clients they’ll be announcing this summer.

It’s a PR internship so the basics apply: must be into fashion, must be a hardworking, dedicated, team player willing to grab coffee one minute and work with a stylist the next. The best part of summer internships is the giant Fashion Week reward at the end in which you get a behind-the- scenes look at everything that goes into a fashion show, market appointments, etc.

You must be available at least three days a week from 10am to 7pm and willing to give it your all.

Sound like you? Email megan@maguiresteele.com and good luck!

Coventry: Comfy, Sexy, Cool

coventry aw09 .JPGIt’s always fascinating to go to various shows in the same location. If I hadn’t walked in the same entrance, I’d never have believed Coventry debuted their fall 09 collection in the same theatre as Rag & Bone.

Matthew Terry’s clothes might’ve been presented to a smaller audience but they were still a hit. He layered sheer lightweight knits under Ralph Lauren-y jackets. There was a beautifully stitched strapless tweed dress with an almost cable knit bust, tight pencil skirts, lace blouses and high-waisted knit pants - all in a neutral palette.

The clothes were grown up and sexy but the light cashmere knit made them look super comfortable. We’d even wear a couple of the men’s cardigans, which we should be able to do come fall if the smiling, nodding heads from buyers - especially Bendel’s and Odin - were any indication.

Meanwhile, we might’ve spent too much time contemplating the randomness of the front row which sat, in order, Leigh Lezark, Sam Endicott of The Bravery and Mrs. Pete Campbell from Mad Men. Because what, really, is the probability of any of them wearing this collection?

Entermodal Comes to You

entermodal wallet.jpgRemember Entermodal? The Portland-based brand of leather goods we discovered on a trip to Pas de Deux?

Well they’re heading east with a pop-up version of their factory, smack in the middle of Odin. And by factory, we mean designer Larry Olmstead’s 100-year old stitching bench, custom tool set and huge selection of leathers.

The rest of the design team will be cutting and sewing Odin’s holiday order while fulfilling any custom ideas you can throw their way. Then they’ll debut their Spring 09 collection early and exclusively at Odin.

If you want to watch them make your bag by hand, or grab a last minute Christmas present, they’ll be at Odin, (199 Lafayette St), from December 12th through 14th.

And if you’re on the West Coast, you’ll have to wait til Spring when they make their way to Fred Segal.

Maguire Steele Needs Interns

maguiresteele needs interns.jpgMaguire Steele’s looking for interns and we think it’d be the perfect place to start.

The relatively new PR firm reps both the big, Rag & Bone, to the small, Billy Reid, to the very cool, Odin, Den, Pas de Deux.

They need interns who can work three days a week from 10am to 7pm. They’ll give you school credit if you need it, though you won’t get paid. In return, you’ll deal with the usual sample trafficking, press clipping, mailing, running errands and most importantly, for you at least, helping with all things Spring Fashion Week.

You should be excited to learn, very organized, detail-oriented and excellent at communicating. Your main interest should probably be PR though you’ll obviously need to love all things fashion, too.

So if you’ve been slacking on your intern apps, we think you should apply, take it and give us a heads up on who’ll be sitting front row at Rag & Bone this year, or maybe throw a dress or two our way.

Email your resume and cover letter to megan@maguiresteele.com.

If You Change Your Mind…

intermodal leather wallets.JPGEntermodal Leather’s based in Portland, Oregon.

They make bags, wallets, luggage, you name it, in both stiff briefcase-like leather and soon, for Spring, a soft, slouchy alternative.

When you buy one of their pieces, it comes with a card telling who crafted it, since it’s all done by hand, and who you can send it back to when you’re in need of a change.

They won’t just fix it if it breaks - they’ll re-format the entire thing if you get bored, need a change, want a new bag, whatever. Each piece has as few stitches as possible to make a seamless transition that much easier. And, if you’re sick of the whole thing, you can send it back, they’ll compensate you for the leather, and make something totally new for a different owner.

Take that, Hermès.

For now, you’ll have to swing down to Pas de Deux or Odin to get yours. But when they launch online, you can buy your new bag from anywhere.

Pas de Deux Gets Chai, Yamamoto, Our Love

odin boys do a pas de deux.jpgIf you’ve spent years listening to your boyfriend/intern/best man friend rave about Odin and you’re like, “OK, I get it. Enough,” then it’s finally your turn.

Eddy and Paul, the revered team behind the beloved men’s store, opened a women’s outpost in September, called Pas de Deux on 11th between 1st and 2nd, and we finally took a moment to hang out with Paul this morning.

He showed us the tightly edited selection of Wang, Lim, Engineered Garments (an Odin favorite), Vena Cava, Coventry, etc, merchandised together for easy-to-understand shopping. The clothes, basically our dream wardrobe, are accessorized with hard-to-find shoe styles from Repetto and Loeffler Randall, sunglasses from Karen Walker and Linda Farrow, and a handful of jewelry from mostly Brooklyn designers.

For Spring, they’re introducing Coming Soon by Yohji Yamamoto and Richard Chai (who conveniently happens to be Eddy’s brother). The tiny, and gorgeous store is meant to be your dream closet, and the blue wall paper, mirrors and girly chandeliers scream Holly Golightly - a very elegant scream, of course.

If we could’ve left with an entirely new outfit - save for our motorcycle boots - we would’ve. Instead, we left with a new favorite store and big plans for our closet.

Odin’s Online

robert geller jacket on odin site.jpgThe launch party for Odin’s e-commerce site might not be until Thursday night, but the site itself is already up and running, and we’re kind of loving it already.

Not only can you finally shop from the site (though we highly suggest the store itself), but they’ve included interviews with each featured designer and a news section to keep you up to date with in-store events.

As for right now, the site still has some quirks, but we can see where it’s going -

Think of a marriage between shopping and a good blog. And you can just imagine how we feel about that.
