Fashion Week unofficially kicked off last night in a small screening room at Norwood packed with Vogue-ettes, socialites, Rachel & Rodger & Brad, Lorenzo, Nathalie Rykiel, Jack, Lazaro, Leighton Meester, Patrick McMullan and the Trainas.

Sundance Channel screened the first episode of The Day Before, the documentary style show that follows designers for the thirty-six mad hours leading up to their runway show. It was, as past fashion documentaries have proven, hilarious, stressful and fun to watch - there’s even a bit with a dog.

Before the screening Jack swore, “We never fight,” with a twinkle in his eye.

Lazaro jumped in to clarify, “In the end, if he sees a black collection and I see white, it’ll be gray.”

We are so excited for September.

While the official list won’t be released until August 17th, we just received a huge rundown of events for Fashion’s Night Out, the New York City fashion celebration this September 10th. Over 300 retailers in all five boroughs have already signed up to party from 6pm to 11pm. We’re a little overwhelmed by it…in a good way.

We already told you about Alex Wang at Barney’s. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Also at Barney’s? The Olsen twins (girl crush times two!), Jonathan Adler and Lisa Perry, on hand to teach you how to knit. After you learn, you can knit a square to be included in a blanket to be sold to benefit the September 11th Memorial Fund.

I don’t just mean great-looking like, attractive, I mean great-looking like they had a look. Stephen Sprouse, Teri Toye, Dianne Brill, Billy Idol… For them, every night was another night to dress up and be fabulous.” - Patrick McMullan, to Style.com.

Chanel Iman’s on the sure-to-be-mind-blowing episode of Gossip Girl - the one where Serena throws an amazing party and everyone shows up.

It’s the same episode in which Patrick McMullan takes pictures, the Misshapes look miserable and this guy got in trouble with the producers for trying to drink booze in Dan’s fake room.

So now we’re wondering, will there be other models present? Other fashion people? Between Leigh (who we hope hope hope gets to make eyes at Chuck) and Chanel, the show’s obviously on a mission to up its high fashion cred.

Also, this means Chanel’s at least sort of into the idea of being on TV, which makes the rumor that she’s set to co-host House of Style with Bar Rafaeli a bit more believable.

That’s a lot to think about - and it’s only Tuesday.

Some would say you’ve made it in New York when Patrick McMullan takes your picture.

But really it depends on how exactly you want to make it.

If the fashion and socialite party scene is your dream, then yes, Patrick, or lately his son Liam, is an important part of one’s initiation into the world of parties and its fervent online documentation.

So we’re guessing there’s supposed to be something very aspirational about the Patrick McMullan Studio 54 shower curtain for sale on Urban Outfitters, (or here). Every time you get out of the shower to slip into your party dress you get a black and white glimpse of the New York party scene at its height and inspiration for the night ahead.

Now we’re just waiting for word of people commissioning their own shower curtains and bringing the party into the bathroom, which we think is kind of creepy. But, if you love the scene so much that you want all of your friends in the shower with you, this is probably meant for you.
