Runaway Bunny Finds Diamonds

hilliers bunny pendant.jpgphoto courtesy WWD
Katie Hillier, the creative genius, or accessories designer, behind first Luella, Giles, Stella and then Marc by Marc Jacobs has finally launched something of her own.

It’s the bunny necklace at left, yes she’s really only launched one thing, and it goes on sale at Dover Street Market and Colette this week.

The bunny, whose bottom half is basically a fancy safety pin, is made from 18-karat gold with a diamond eye and retails for $1,325 - probably three or four times the amount her “Daddy, I want a pony” belt sold for ten years ago so here’s hoping for a Katie by Katie Hillier line very soon.

Double Tavi Time

tavi for pop and love.jpgEveryone’s talking about Tavi.

The thirteen-year-old StyleRookie (or not) covers Dasha Zhukova’s first POP. She’s also inside, and on one of the promotional images of Katie Grand’s second LOVE.

Damien Hirst’s illustration (at left) made us gasp, while Grand’s editorial made us “Aw”; while we worship the ground Katie walks on, now we’re actually excited to see what Dasha’s done.

Which do you prefer?

dashas pop.jpgPOP This: Here’s your first peek at Dasha Zhukova’s POP. Looks good so far, and love anything that pairs “Margiela with Westwood, McQueen against Watanabe’s padded extravagance,” though she should stop defending herself. {Fashionologie & Interview}

Fall, For Serious: Candy & her team at Style just released their fall trend report. We’ll avoid Party Like It’s 1983 since we just barely missed that the first time around, but fully embrace Boudoir Crossing and Biker Brigade. {Style}

Rad Rad: If you’re not yet familiar with Rad Hourani, get thee to a lookbook. The dude’s going to be major. {Jak&Jil}

Biggie, Biggie, Biggie:
Just how many of these bracelets on one arm would be too many? We can’t make it past the jewelry counter at J.Crew lately. Seriously, someone is doing their job very, very well. {J.Crew}

Model Citizen: Meet Damaris Lewis. She’s from Brooklyn, she’s eighteen, she’s the face of YSL and after watching this, you’ll want to eat pizza with her. {NylonTV}

The Next Big (skinny) Thing

amanda laine ford model contest.jpgLast year, V named Amanda Laine their model search winner.

Since then, the Canadian’s walked everything from Alex Wang to McQueen, Miu Miu to Vuitton. She’s been in V (obviously), Interview, POP, Numero, W, Bazaar and more. Needless to say, Stephen Gan’s eye for runway potential has a one up on Tyra’s.

So now the mag’s teamed up with Ford Models and thrown Alexander Wang onto their judging panel to find the next superstar. They’ve already received over 6000 online entries, but you have until June 29th to submit your profile on their site.

Finalists will be announced July 3rd and from there the winner gets an editorial in V and a contract with Ford, which is kind of priceless. Gan wants to, “unearth the next classic female beauty with a twist.”

If that’s you, you better get a move on.

Daphne is Not Doing POP

daphne guinness looking serious.jpgIf Daphne Guinness sounded like she was distancing herself from the POP project after the world pretty much laughed at Dasha Zhukova’s appointment as editor-in-chief, it’s because she, apparently, really was.

Yesterday, in regards to her involvement with POP, she told Derek Blasberg that she would like to “emphasize that I’m completely neutral here—I’m a free agent! Fashion is my family and I love everyone just the same.” It sounded weird, but ok.

And now today, she’s blogged on the Starworks site that “it was so FUNNY to read on the web that I am on the new board of POP Magazine with Dasha Zhukova and my friend Ashley Heath. It was flattering but not true I am afraid. It came as a complete surprise. A complete misunderstanding! That is the nature of the web.”

Guess the web - er, the Guardian, actually - got it wrong…

Fact: Dasha in at POP

dasha zhukova head tilts like a starlet.jpgRumors over the last week have just been confirmed by the Guardian: Dasha Zhukova, the designer behind Kova & T (also well-known as the girlfriend of Roman Abramovich, the billionaire who owns the Chelsea Football Club) is the new editor-in-chief of POP.

The first issue of the new POP hits newsstands September 1st, an ambitious date considering Bauer Media’s had to hire a freelance team to replace the masthead Katie took with her to LOVE.

Bauer’s also established an editorial board to “provide guidance and inspiration”, a team that includes Daphne Guinness and Julia Restoin-Roitfield.

This job will be Dasha’s very first in magazine editorial.

LOVE to London Fashion Week

love magazine ad.jpgFifteen days to LOVE!

We know you knew that, but here’s something more: The magazine launches in the UK on February 19th, London Fashion Week Eve, and will be handed out throughout the week at all of Mandi Lennard’s shows. Mandi’s the PR guru behind House of Holland, Gareth Pugh, Roksanda Ilincic, Eley Kishimoto, Danielle Scutt, formerly POP, TopMan and almost every other thing you want to be part of while in London.

This means that when we get off the red eye on the morning of the 20th and head to the Topshop venue, wherever it may be, we’ll be rejuvenated with delicious treats and the first ever copy of Katie’s new mag, and no one will be left to wonder why London Fashion Week is the most fun of all.

People We Like

Bye, Bye Katie

everyone loves drew.jpgSo, you think we’re obsessed with LOVE?

Maybe.

But only because we’ve been obsessed with POP since we went to London sophomore year of college and spent too much money on mind-blowing magazines.

Since then, we love all things Katie Grand. And while we can’t wait for LOVE’s debut, it’s with great sadness that we mull over her final, Drew Barrymore-covered issue of POP.

Her last letter from the editor, in which she talks beginnings, highlights and ends, after the jump.

Beth Ditto on LOVE: Confirmed

beth ditto in pop.jpgScratch that.

It’s no longer a rumor but now a fact. The Gossips’ Beth Ditto’s already been shot for the inaugural issue of Katie Grand’s LOVE magazine.

We’d kind of expected the magazine to go the model route what with their high fashion cred and ridiculously cool circle of friends but we can’t wait to see what Katie does with Beth on the cover.

Ditto’s graced the pages of POP and Jalouse, not to mention the cover of NME, but we’re expecting something totally new, with lots of Giles, of course.

More From the Love Line

katie grand smiles.jpgSome new details on Love, Katie Grand’s new magazine, via WWD:

1. The release is a little sooner than expected - set your iPhone to February 19th.

2. As rumored, Katie’s scooped up Francesca Burns from i-D to be her Senior Fashion Editor-at-Large.

3. She’s also hired on Mark Frith, former editor of Heat (kind of like the British In Touch), which is a little surprising considering the magazine’s supposed to focus on fashion and art, and has been touted as “high-end” and “edgy” by Conde Nast UK.

Baby Spice for the first cover? Maybe, but probably wearing Pugh…

UPDATE: The entire masthead, after the jump…

Missing Persons Report: Gemma?

img revamps their site.jpgIMG’s changed their website.

We’re kind of indifferent to colors and fonts, but we’re enthralled with their new “Welcome to the World of Beautiful People” video.

Before, one was greeted with an almost perfect trifecta - Kate Moss, Daria Werbowy and Gemma Ward - now you get more, but one less.

The black and white slideshow gives screen time to Naomi, Hilary Rhoda, Stephanie Seymour (in that ridiculous POP come-back shoot), Heidi Mount, Lara Stone and Angela Lindvall, but where oh where did Gemma go?

Just because she’s disappeared from life and runways and campaigns and everything but The Black Balloon doesn’t mean she’s lost her modeling spot.

Does it?

Confirmed: Katie Grand to Conde Nast

Katie Grand former Pop editor.jpgRemember how we told you that Katie Grand would be leaving Pop to start her own magazine for Conde Nast, and even we were like, “How can this be?”

Well, Vogue UK’s got the rest of the details:

It’ll be released just twice a year starting this March, and according to Katie herself, “I feel the time is ready for a new magazine, a new arena for new ideas. This time we’ll have a larger format, bigger budgets and broader horizons than ever before.”

So poo poo to those who think a new magazine shouldn’t enter the print market - we say, if it’s interesting, with amazing photography, incredible access and ideas worth poring over - and paying up for - the readers (and advertisers) will come.

The only lingering question - what happens to Pop?

People Are Talking

Katie_Grand@condenast.com?!

Kate Moss PopOverheard in the Vogue halls:

Katie Grand is leaving POP, the vivid British magazine she began, to start a new magazine for Conde Nast.

She offered her job to one of our favorite editors ever, but since POP is also reducing its funding now that Katie’s over and out, the candidate decided it ultimately couldn’t be worth it for her.

Now the magazine’s future is up in the air, and as for Conde Nast starting yet another fashion title, well, WTF.

How much weight this rumor holds remains to be seen - our sources are pretty impeccable, but also so thin, we wouldn’t be surprised if their extreme fashion diets were making them a little delusional.

Less Karl! More Cake! Less Stella! More Stella Artois! Etc.

More than Perfume on Paper Strips, Please

lofficiel.jpgWhy do European magazines always come with something extra?

In London, we picked up a bunch of teen magazines that came with glittery eye shadow and neon lipstick, (which we totally used for Henry Holland’s party). The British Bazaar came with a shopping supplement that was so well done we almost forgot to read the actual magazine. ELLE came with a tote. POP came with an Agent Provocateur pullout featuring Daisy Lowe, Peaches Geldof, and the Britt and the Faran. And well, British Vogue just came with the best content ever.

And now we’re in Paris, where the new L’Officiel comes with a tube of Dior mascara (!!!) and other mags squeeze books, make-up, tweezers and other swag into their plastic wrapping.

The best part is, the editorial content of these magazines is significantly better than most of what’s found stateside, so there’s no need for added compensation - not that we’re complaining.

So what’s up America, when do we get Diorshow with our five dollar magazine?!

Agyness To Fall Naked From a Building

Agyness DeynYes, the profile on Katie Grand in yesterday’s Guardian is very interesting, especially to those young stylists, image makers, and wannabe editors who should realize that curating one’s friends at an early age is just as important and insanely hard as picking one’s outfits.

But of course, we were totally distracted by Katie’s rise to fashion fame - founding POP Magazine, sharing creative credit with Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton, discretely not dropping Giorgio Armani’s name despite the fact that she’s also their stylist - and way more consumed by this paragraph:

“When I met Grand she’d just been to New York for a POP shoot with the art photographer Ryan McGinley and model Agyness Deyn. She’d never worked with McGinley but he said he’d like to photograph Agyness, whom of course Grand knew, and Grand suggested they should do some nudes, because Agyness had never done a nude shoot, and McGinley agreed. ‘And then a week later he sent me this reference photograph of kids falling off a fire escape - it was from the 1950s I think - and said he’d really like to have her falling. And naked. So we ended up with two stunt men and Agyness jumping naked from five stories onto a huge huge crash mat. It was incredible.

Say it with us now: O. M. G.

How they managed to pull off a naked girl falling - over and over again - from a fire escape on a public street in New York, with no indecent exposure charges, is a totally different matter.
