Guess Who?: Gucci’s finally cracking down on Guess for their interlocking ‘G’ logo. Wonder what took them so long? {Bloomberg}
That’s What He Said: Olivier Theyskens likes fashion parties , but he’d rather smoke cheap cigars and pee in the Seine. We’ll see him at the former, thanks. {Hint}
Broken Brants: Stephanie Seymour just filed for divorce from her husband of sixteen years/owner of Interview Peter Brant. Poor thing’s sleeping in the maid’s quarters, probably surrounded by Alaia. {NYMag}
I grew up with a dad who is fifteen minutes early to everything which means my single act of adolescent rebellion was being half an hour late to everything - something that’s generally ok in this industry.
But I’d never been to one of Marc’s shows and I was not going to be one of those distraught people stuck outside three minutes after start time because the new Marc is both fit and punctual. I gave myself one hour to go pick up my ticket, walk back to the Louvre and take my seat for the 2:30 show.
At 2:33 half the venue - a tent set up in one of the Louvre’s giant courtyards giving tour groups a major surprise - was still empty. There was an open seat behind me, in front of me, across from me and next to Carine. But sure enough, a re-mixed version of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” switched on at 2:37 and the first model stormed out in a black lace number layered over a pink and blue skirt with killer shoes. Meanwhile, a couple of models in, Suzy Menkes tumbled across the runway into an open aisle seat.
The collection was like everything good in life rolled into one - if half of me wants to wear Giles everyday, the other half wants to wear this. Marc threw lace into everything, used bright lingerie over sheer neutrals, tucked metallic mini-skirts under camel pea-coats and ruched leather into retro skirt suits. There were bunny ears and giant pearl hat pins stuck into fluffy buns. The girls wore platforms and thigh-high lace-up boots. Raquel Zimmerman had on amazing blue capris with ruffles at the bottom, Catherine McNeil a Working Girl red coat and Vlada rocked the perfect shade of green.
It’s clothes - and shows - like this that make people fall in love with fashion - it was the perfect fantasy. And with that, it’s back to Brooklyn.
We were going to show you the new commercial for Fendi’s Palazzo fragrance.
It stars Raquel, Brad, sheets and nipples. But then we found this video documenting the making of the commercial, which also stars Karl. And everything’s better with Karl.
So here you go.
Raquel tries to look sexy in her white boyfriend tee. Well, she doesn’t actually have to try. She just does. And Brad gets to sleep while she poses against the wall, the balcony, the Italian Palazzo.
If only life were more like fragrance commercials, directed by Karl and full of perfectly smoked eyeliner all the time.
Stella McCartney’s show is in the same venue as Yohji’s, and the similarities stop there.
We walk in, greeted by a table stacked with “so sorry you’re seriously here at 10am” peace offerings, including heart-shaped champagne truffles and double espressos.
I watch Stella’s darling daughter hide between her impossibly gorgeous father’s legs, since everyone’s paying more attention to the four year old than to L’Wren Scott.
I sit down and open my travel felt kit. It’s too hard to explain, but fun.
The only thing that distracts me from the neon cartoon mural on the back wall, is Sir Paul McCartney sitting twenty feet away. And the only thing that distracts me from the Beatle, is the sometimes sparkly, always sexy, slouchy collection his daughter sends down her runway.
I remember back when Stella first showed jumpsuits and everyone laughed. I realize that the one-piece tuxedo Raquel Zimmerman wears to close the show might be the hottest thing I’ve seen all season. And I realize that for the first time in a long time, despite their constant appearances this past Fashion Month, sequins actually look appealing.
I mentally block the out of place Leger-inspired bandage dresses that pop up for a split second, and instead enjoy my Tootsie pop, the Paul/Alasdhair/Twiggy view, and my fantasy wardrobe come to life.
I’m still not used to the kind of fashion show where people care more about Harvey Weinstein than Patrick Demarchelier, more about Katy Perry than Anna Piaggi.
But I guess that’s why I don’t work in PR and why I watch for editors’ reactions instead of the runway at a show where it’s only half about the clothes.
Dior’s afternoon show, held in a tent at the Place de la Concorde end of the Tuileries, boasted movie stars, dramatic music cut with MGMT, ridiculously caged Cindy Lou Who hair, and handbags, of course.
From my perch above the runway, I watched Galliano’s parade of modern warrior princess clothes. Raquel, Caroline Trentini and Tanya D teetered on their carved heels - think Basso & Brooke - wearing snakeskin corsets and chiffon mini dresses made for Tinsley. The Dior beauty ambassador sat front row, the paparazzi crush snapping away at Eva Green and Marion Cotillard right next to her.
The show ended with a string of sheer gowns and a runway strut from Galliano in a particularly deep-v vest. As my new French friend said to me, “Beaucoup de boobies this season, n’est-ce pas?”
Reasons why Luella Bartley’s show wasn’t just special, but one of the best this season:
1. Breakfast and glitter and the fact that it was in The Crystal Palace. See Teen Vogue for details.
2. Models. It was the first time I’d seen Raquel Zimmermann walk a show. A little birdie told me it’s because Luella’s making a Raquel bag for next season. Also, Ali Michael and Jourdan Dunn got to wear pink and purple prom dresses and well, that’s brilliant.
3. The PR girls. In New York they all wear black, which means the sight of that H&M or Zara dress makes you sick by the end of the week. At Luella, they all wear Luella, which makes you want to listen to all their silly orders.
4. The clothes. The shoes. The bags. The hats. Whoa. Everything was so Luella. There were florals and ruffles and bows and hearts and yet, it was all a little bit punk rock. We need it all - and we’ll be DIYing those head pieces the minute we find a fabric store in Marylebone.
5. The crowd. It was a party the way Charlotte Ronson was a party. There was cheering, sitting on laps, oohing, aahing and a general lust pulsing through the benches.
We all fell in love, and it’s only Day Two.

She’s the perpetual face of Fendi and a favorite of Vogue, but now the expensive blonde smile of Raquel Zimmerman is going for a more approachable market:
She’s booked the latest H&M campaign.
The Brazilian bombshell, who plays guitar on the side, was already the poster girl for Viktor + Rolf’s diffusion line, which debuted at the Swedish chain.
Now Raquel ditches the boys and goes solo, appearing in a series of really cute bikinis and tropical prints in their upcoming resort (or is it Cruise? We can’t keep this stuff straight…) advertisements.
Past H&M faces include Fashionista’s mascot Cintia Dicker (that’s her Polaroid on the top right of our blog), plus Anja Rubik, Daria Werbowy, and once Madonna posed for them, too.
And who’s never had an H&M campaign?
Kate Moss. Stella McCartney chose the model when her own line was in stores, but once Kate was (publicly) caught with drugs, they rescinded their offer. Reportedly furious, Stella handed the Polaroids of the ad shoot over to several newspapers and also Dazed and Confused. Does anybody have a scan?
If you’re in Los Angeles right-this-second, you can sneak onto the set of the Valentino Campaign, which they’re currently shooting for Spring ‘08.
The ads are some of the last for the designer, whose retirement kicks into gear next year.
And to celebrate his second-to-last collection, Mr. Valentino has chosen a mix of old-school super models and new industry favorites to show off his confection couture.
Replacing Gemma Ward and Hilary Rhoda (and Sienna Miller!) as the new faces of the brand are…
Anja Rubik (with Valentino, left), Amber Valletta, Shalom Harlow, and Raquel Zimmerman.
Those who dig Fashion Trivia should note it’s the second time Shalom and Anja have posed together - the first being for Chloe’s most recent campaign.
