Going Medieval On Your… Finger?

rihanna in rings.jpgMK was the first fashion lover we noticed embracing the full finger ring back in December, and we loved it. Now, we’re spotting Rihanna wearing one (and sometimes two) during her ongoing media blitz - most recently at the the awesome BET Awards.

While the trend takes cues from calvary armor of the 16th century, the ring variation has typically been reserved for more hardcore Goth culture. We still don’t know whether to call them “Gauntlet Rings,” “Full Finger Rings,” “Armor Rings,” “Over the Knuckle Rings,” or some variation thereof - but Googling will turn up some pretty diabolical results. And everyone still thinks we mean “Brass Knuckles”. Definitely not.

Vivienne Westwood has been making her “Armour Ring” for years
, but it’s a little expensive and we’re on the hunt for a more delicate looking variation, like the filigree version Rihanna’s sporting at left. Maybe it’s a sign, but we’re not having much luck.

So in the future, if you see us on the street giving someone the finger, at least you’ll know why.

We’d Say I Do

papabubble pull.jpgIt’s usually semi-annoying when people use words like delicious or sweet to describe accessories. But in this case it actually works.

We found this Chihuly-like ring at Papabubble, a teeny-tiny candy store on the edge of Little Italy.

The artsy lollipops drew us in - but once inside we couldn’t take our eyes off the two girls rolling the hot candy into long tubes before slicing them into miniature bites.

Aside from old fashioned candy rectangles, they make the most colorful, yes, delicious, looking rings you’ve ever seen. We’re not sure how to wear it - a napkin would be necessary - but we think it’d make the perfect BBQ accessory.

Watch out Ring Pop, you’ve got some stylish competition.

Total Knock-Out

kimberley baker ring.jpgA good friend of ours, like any good PR girl who knows about our teensy tiny Gossip Girl fixation, sent us some info on Kimberly Baker.

Maybe you’ve never heard that name before, but you will soon - her jewelry’s been all over your TV sets, subliminally seeping onto wish lists everywhere courtesy of Serena, Blair, Jenny, and even Vanessa - you can also see Mary-Kate sporting her Wolfette ring on her January NYLON cover.

Considering at least one Kimberly Baker piece has been spotted on literally every female GG character, we’re just waiting to see a throw-down between Georgina and, well, anybody, involving Kim’s Bianca Ring, at left (our favorite).

Ok - I will now return to moderating the ongoing battle for official “Chuck’s Girlfriend” title here in the office.
