Memo:
The Rogan/Loomstate sample sale is pretty amazing.
I was in there for under 30 minutes today, and walked out with gifts for my brother, my boyfriend, his mother, his aunt, his sister and his cousin (annnd for myself), and my spending hovered around $200. Yes, most of the good finds are tangled in cardboard boxes on the floor, but when Rogan’s super soft tees are marked at $20 a pop, casual shopping is quickly displaced by borderline aerobic work.
So if you have several hard-to-shop-for people on your holiday list, we suggest hitting this sale up, because nobody scoffs at a perfect little tee.
PS We also stopped in Odin on the way, where a pretty decent sale’s quietly carrying on from previous weeks. Trovata shirts are finally marked at $109 and less, and there are many choice items (though mostly tops) for under $100 waiting to be scooped up by serious shoppers.
So basically, go downtown.
And for more sales, Shop Your Heart Out.
We just got back from the Rogan Spring 09 press preview on Franklin, and we have some news:
Not only is Lady Grey designing a collection for the King of Denim, but he’s already designed a jewelry collection of his own, launching this Spring.
The pieces are mostly wood with some metal accents, some of which look like some kind of tangram game for the neck, but we’re into it.
And as for Lady Grey, their designs are still in the works, though the collaboration is definitely on. We were told straight from Rogan’s press girls that the Lady Grey designs will be in stores, exclusively at Rogan, for this holiday season. We think it’s a little funny to debut a designer collaboration for an accessory you haven’t done for your brand yet before you debut your own, which is already designed and made anyway, but it really just makes this more interesting anyway. But what’s most interesting, is how the Lady Grey girls’ aesthetic meshes with Rogan’s decidedly woodsy take on jewelry.
Enjoy some choice looks from Rogan’s Spring 09, after the jump.

Lady Grey Jewelry’s teaming up with Rogan.
The Brooklyn-based brand, designed by Sabine LeGuyader and Jill Martinelli, is collaborating with the denim designer on an exclusive jewelry line.
Rogan’s never done jewelry, and the girls have never done denim, so we’re curious to see how they Rogan-ize their rings, bangles and necklaces. Or will there be Lady Grey hardware on Rogan’s clothes? And will we be seeing it at his Spring collection preview tonight?
Meanwhile, when we interviewed the girls back in July, they mentioned that they’re dying to be sold in Barneys. We know Julie Gilhart loves Rogan, and now Rogan loves Lady Grey, so, basically, good move girls.
Rogan has teamed up with NYC-based Salvor to create a capsule collection of jeans and tees that will be sold exclusively at the Rogan Bowerie store at 330 Bowery.
And we know you’re like, “Who’s Salvor?” so here it is: He’s a graphic designer who’s yielded many a cool picture of shirts, jackets, scarves, belts and bags printed in what has to be his signature style - puzzle-like designs and cubic checks in both subtle colors and neons. We must say it all looks very Rogan appropriate so we’re really excited to see what the duo produce together.
According to the press release, we can expect subtle Salvor patterns and imagery printed over the top of Rogan’s tees and jeans, and one-of-a-kind printed jersey women’s tops.
The collection launches September 25 and customers will receive an exclusive Rogan-Salvor denim pouch with purchase. We would get there quick if we were you - we have a feeling all the LES kids’ll be lining up…

If you’re an avid Fashionista reader, you’ll have noticed that once in a blue moon, our server crashes.
Those moments are usually punctuated with an “Oh, Shit” and a race to the TV to play Nintendo. So when an invite arrived combining our two loves - Nintendo and fashion - we kind of jumped for joy.
Nintendo DS is hosting a day spa at the Bryant Park hotel from September 9th through 11th which means people from Sephora will be on hand for hair styling, make-overs, and the best part - lash applications.
We made our appointment after Rogan but before Cynthia Rowley so we’ll look refreshed at Zac Posen five hours later.
Hopefully there’s lots of espresso, and maybe some Mario, on hand, too. We’re exhausted already.

If you haven’t checked out Michael Stipe’s installation at the Rogan store on Bowery - go now. It’s awesome.
And if you don’t live in NYC, we’re sorry. But there’s another cool collaboration coming your way.
Stephen Burks, the American industrial designer who works in furniture, packaging and fashion, (including Calvin Klein, Missoni and Estee Lauder), was chosen by Tod’s to build window displays for twenty of the luxury brand’s international flagships.
The displays will be built of transparent layers inviting the viewers to see, “not just the merchandise in the windows, but the entire shop floor”.
There were overly made up models dancing in the windows of Armani Exchange in Soho last night and they made us want to run the other way.
But a talented designer in the windows of a beloved Italian house? Sounds much more promising.
When Rogan Gregory was announced as Target’s new Go! International designer, the timing was rather suspect.
It was like a week after Rogan took the CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund award, and since Proenza Schouler had recently launched their own Target collection, everyone was like, “Oh, Anna Wintour waved her wand.”
But in fact, things happened a little differently.
“We were offered a partnership with Target about two years ago,” Rogan told us at last night’s Sundance Channel bash at Barneys, “But we told them we wouldn’t do it, because they couldn’t produce the clothes in a sustainable, ecologically respectful way. It took us two years of working with them to get it together, but Target pulled through and they did it. This is the first Target collection that can say it’s really green friendly, so it was worth waiting.”
The collection hits shelves in about two weeks, and you can get it at Target and - psych! - Barneys Co-Op, where you can also drop off your old t-shirts for recycling!
Target has decided which designer will follow Jovovich-Hawk and Rogan for their GO International line -
New York designer Richard Chai.
Chai made a name for himself after working for Marc Jacobs (and helping launch Marc by Marc) and reviving Tse.
We have a feeling Richard Chai is going to become a lot more well known outside the fashion community in the coming year - In the past month alone, he’s announced plans to design resort, pre-fall and a men’s line in addition to this capsule collection for Target.
The line will debut in August, so expect little jackets with rounded seams, a bright dress or two and at least one sheer, flowing top.
The name Rogan Gregory conjures two thoughts - jeans and a very green earth.
While the designer might not have launched his eponymous line intent on spearheading fashion’s green movement, he’s since become one of its strongest leaders because all of his clothes use free-trade cotton and organic dyes.
Rogan designs for two other clothing lines: Loomstate, which works with 100% organic cotton, and Edun, which exists to develop trade and create sustainability in Africa. And Rogan’s home line, Rogan Objects, consists of furniture, from tables to lamps, constructed entirely of found objects.
Rogan’s entire brand is based on green living, which is why we were so surprised to hear that he’s the latest designer for Target.
Stella McCartney had her own line of clothes at H&M two years ago - because of her organic sensibilities, she insisted on biodegradable shopping bags for her outfits. The gesture was nice, as if Stella was telling us, “Look, I didn’t forget my values!” But Stella’s known more for her vegan tendencies than an environmental inclination. Rogan for Target is like if Stella crafted a leather jacket for H&M and said, “I swear, I’ll only do it this one time.”
We’re not the most eco-conscious people; from a shopper’s perspective we jump over almost any collaboration. But if we worked as hard as Gregory to build a brand with a specific stance and newfound respect within the industry, (hello CFDA award?!), we wouldn’t want to tear it down for a shot at the mass-market.
But details on Rogan’s Target partnership have yet to be released.
Maybe it will all be organic, and made in Africa, and packaged in recycled tote bags…
It’s probably uncool to watch the CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund as if it were a horse race, but let’s be real - there’s no aloofness woven into our Luella dress, just some earnest “omigosh” at the latest winner:
It’s eco-denim designer Rogan Gregory, who beat the running favorite Phillip Lim to the $200,000 prize.
Gregory has a store in Tribeca and jeans that look like you wore them for five years of your life - straight. He only works with fair trade materials, and uses energy efficient techniques when making his clothes. Rogan claims Heath Ledger and Helena Christensen as major fans, and Bono as a spokesman - his wife, Ali Hewson, has another line with Gregory called Edun, which promotes environmental living and flowy sun dresses.
But what gave Rogan the edge over lines like Marchesa, Vena Cava, and Erin Fetherston?
Only Anna can tell for sure, but we bet the company’s environmental edicts had a large part to do with the decision - after all, this is the year when Barneys decorates their windows with recycled paper, and even the Top Model bus is a hybrid.
Phillip Lim won a $50,000 second-place prize from the fund, along with jewelry designer Philip Craingi.
