Look out Gilt and Rue La La, there’s about to be another sample sale site in the mix: Swirl, Sample Sales by DailyCandy.
The point of difference is that all the items will be hand-picked by DailyCandy’s editors, overseen by newly named Creative Director, Eve Epstein, who was until now EIC over all the DailyCandy properties.
The site’s still in Beta and will soft launch the week of November 16th, but it’s first come, first serve right now to sign up. The full-on launch will come in January.
We definitely know the site will look cute and will have a fun voice. Here’s hoping the merch and the prices are on the same level.
Memo:
The Rogan/Loomstate sample sale is pretty amazing.
I was in there for under 30 minutes today, and walked out with gifts for my brother, my boyfriend, his mother, his aunt, his sister and his cousin (annnd for myself), and my spending hovered around $200. Yes, most of the good finds are tangled in cardboard boxes on the floor, but when Rogan’s super soft tees are marked at $20 a pop, casual shopping is quickly displaced by borderline aerobic work.
So if you have several hard-to-shop-for people on your holiday list, we suggest hitting this sale up, because nobody scoffs at a perfect little tee.
PS We also stopped in Odin on the way, where a pretty decent sale’s quietly carrying on from previous weeks. Trovata shirts are finally marked at $109 and less, and there are many choice items (though mostly tops) for under $100 waiting to be scooped up by serious shoppers.
So basically, go downtown.
And for more sales, Shop Your Heart Out.
Can you handle more Fashionista changes?
Look to the right.
We’re making your life, ok and ours, easier with a constant list of upcoming sales, both sample and otherwise on the side of the site.
We’ll still make note of the notable on the main page, ie Stella, Proenza, Margiela, (hey, we can dream about it), but we’ll put every bit of sale information we hear to the right so you know when, where and how to get your hands on last year’s throw away samples.
Just click on the ones you care about for all the details and scroll down for a more thorough list.
And of course, if your name’s Marc and you want us to tell the world about a heavenly sample sale you’re having in a different universe - email tips@fashionista.com.
If you’re in need of a retail-pick-me-up this weekend, may we suggest:
Falls: 30-90% off / 54 East 11th St, 8th Floor / 11.17 to 11.18 from 11am to 8pm
Prps: 50-70% off / 250 West 39th St / 11.17 to 11.21 from 11am to 7pm
Or, if you’re of the west coast persuasion, check out the Cancer Awareness Club Boutique Sale. It’s being held at the Frank Picture Gallery, 2525 Michigan Ave, in Santa Monica from 10am to 4pm today.
They have both new and vintage clothes including a handful of Chloé, as well as donated Hollywood pieces. Basically, it’ll be a gold mine and you’ll be shopping for a great cause.
We’re sticking to cupcake pick-me-ups this weekend, but have fun!

Hi!
Did you guys hear about that Clothingline sale? They’ve got samples from Theory, Gryphon, Alice + Olivia, Helmut Lang and bags from Kooba. Some of the Gryphon coats are going for $80.
I didnt see it anywhere, but anyway I have gone twice already and might go back tomorrow… All the guys in my office were so excited they got bags of stuff. Get there early!
J
It’s at 261 W. 36th St. (between 7th and 8th Ave), 2nd floor. All major cards are accepted but today’s the last day and the doors will be closed by 6:30…
We stopped by the Proenza sale on Walker Street yesterday, and here’s our verdict:
1. Most of the clothes seemed to be in sizes 8 or 10. We also saw 6 a lot, but 4 and anything smaller were scarce - and we didn’t see anything above a 10.
2. The shoes were available in nearly every size (they even have 35’s) but the shoes themselves suddenly seemed clunky and overly recognizable in person.
3. And the worst part - yes, there were items for under $100, but the cutest stuff (like the petticoat dress that’s been on our mental wish list since forever) was still a minimum of $1,000, and mostly way over that.
So here’s a tip we just got for everyone who thought the same - the cute girls manning the elevator doors have marked everything down once again. So everything you rummaged through yesterday and decided was too much for you (especially if you had Gen Art on your afternoon’s agenda) is 50% off of whatever yesterday’s sale price was.
Happy hunting.
