If you already know you’re going to be Lady Gaga or Michael Jackson for Halloween, this isn’t for you.
I committed to being a Nevernude last November 1st - even though I have the perfect Betty Draper dress - so I’m missing the excitement of finding a costume (but I do get to wear my trusty denim cut-offs!).
If you’re still searching and looking for something more creative than Ricky’s, we’d suggest checking out two of our favorite vintage destinations. Zachary’s Smile just made their basement sale space at 303 Mulberry a permanent vintage dream with almost everything - including their own label - going for less than $50.
Let’s say you find the perfect suede hot pants and embroidered hippie boots, but still need the right peasant blouse and floppy hat - we’d head up the street to Screaming Mimi’s at 382 Lafayette and scour their in-store costume pop-up shop. This year’s theme is Dios de los Muertos and we can almost guarantee you’ll leave with the perfect costume.
Meanwhile, I’m already having nightmares about wearing a nude bodysuit.
Blue Crush was the start of my wetsuit envy.
Seeing Kate Bosworth in her super sick rash guards totally made me buy one to wear on my wakeboarding (mis)adventures. I swear it had (almost) nothing to do with the surfer boys.
And we love when we see the styles emerge from the ocean and end up on the runway or in non-surf shops, like this high-waisted skirt that designer Thomas Renaud created in collaboration with Screaming Mimi’s.
Renaud designed it as a part of his COMBHARD for Screaming Mimi’s line. The super futuristic skirt is made of breathable neoprene and is completely reversible.

We’ve made it abundantly clear that we love Montauk and Mr. Mickey.
And this Sunday the 5th, the two shall come together for the Paper mag editor’s second annual Celebrity Sidewalk Sale at Screaming Mimi’s.
The shindig is co-hosted by Peter Davis, Charlotte Ronson, and Emma Snowdon-Jones and will feature loads of merch from people like Catherine Malandrino, Julia Frakes, and Lynn Yaeger.
Plus, the money goes to charity:water which builds freshwater wells in developing countries. We actually had no idea that it only takes about $5000 to give water to a whole village for 20 years!
So shop away, friends. We just wish we were going to be out east too. But ‘tis wedding season and we’re off to another one in Ann Arbor come Friday.
The best bit of everything we learned this weekend: Trovata’s popping up.
We were in Montauk for Sergio Rossi’s dinner in honor Alexandra Richards’ Social Life cover, which was held at Sole East, when we learned that the back of the hotel will soon play host to a Trovata pop-up shop.
It’s kind of the perfect fit for John Whitledge’s nautical surf line and makes us worry about the damage it’ll do to our wallets.
What’s more dangerous than a beach town with nothing but beer, homemade ice cream, Tracy Feith, Screaming Mimi’s and Trovata?
Mickey Boardman, aka Mr. Mickey, is the Editorial Director, and basically the face of Paper Magazine.
The man’s one of the busiest people I’ve ever met - and yet he positively bubbles over with enthusiasm for his job and the people he works with. The first time I met him, in an elevator at Milk Studios at one of the first fashion events I ever went to, he told me I was funny. In Paris last month, he gave me his ticket to John Galliano and introduced me to Kate and Laura Mulleavy. Needless to say, I love him.
So our Life With session turned into more than just a what-do-you-do-all-day interview. We dove into topics like his love for India, his devotion to various charities and the highlights of his sixteen-year career at Paper - the Olsens are involved, so is DVF.
His goal? To host Mr. Gay Bombay, but for now there are photo shoots to plan, web meetings to conduct and a snack run to the local deli wherein lives a fat cat lovingly christened Candy Cats Price.
