Quote of the Day

“‘One of Target’s top executives got nervous about being that closely associated with the show, given the [debauchery] its characters get into,’ says an on-the-set source. For example, Blake Lively’s character, Serena, killed a man, and most of the characters frequently get wasted, do drugs and have promiscuous sex.” —The New York Daily News on why Anna Sui’s line for Target won’t have a starring role on an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl after all.

Spotted: Blair and Serena on Prince St.

blakeandleightononset7-9_edited-1.jpgThe streets of Soho were lined with people waiting for a Gossip Girl glimpse.

And we couldn’t have had better luck, walking up just as Blake and Leighton filmed a scene that found them sauntering up Prince St having a somewhat heated, though not entirely angry, discussion. A truck moved out of the way just as they stopped in front of the Karen Millen store and we were able to snag a pretty decent shot.

What do you think of Blair’s footwear? Of course, I’m totally obsessed with Serena’s maxi dress.

Enjoy the pic larger after the jump. We’ll swing by tomorrow and see if any of the boys join the set.

OMFG, The Kids Today

nycprepcastphoto6-24.jpegGiven our Gossip Girl obsession, I felt the need to weigh in on the situation that is NYC Prep, fashion news or not.

While I anxiously await Daily Intel’s highly specific (and sure to be hilarious) recap, I’ll just share a few quick thoughts.

I was obviously expecting an abundance of egregious behavior and inflated egos from these privileged youth…they were worse than expected. It was kind of nauseating to watch. Fictional romps on GG = good. Real kids acting like a-holes, not so much. Note: PC, sir, you are no Chuck Bass.

Plus, I was less than impressed by the clothing—which is supposed to be one of their “things”, yes? Personal shoppers do not a stylish girl (or boy) make. And Sebastian, really with the hair? We think Rolando could give you some serious advice.

Blair, Chuck, Serena, and even Little J would be so disappointed.

Fashion quote of the show for sure was from Jessie’s friend, Zoe: “I wear clothes that are less than $20 sometimes.” I don’t even have words…

Are these kids giving their private school counterparts across the country a bad name? Or just our fair city of New York? I, for one, have never been more proud of my public school diploma.

Yet, I know I will still watch every episode of this silly show. What does that say about me? Are you with me? Or are you a more culturally sound person?

Gossip on Gossip Girl

blake lively in nina ricci golden globes 2009.jpgFrom a conversation last night:

“Did you know there’s dissent in the Gossip Girl wardrobe closet?

The main costume designer is clashing with the other stylists and producers on set because they think he’s making Blake look like a “trashy whore” and they’re convinced he was responsible for her awful Golden Globes dress.

Very funny.”

Yikes. We have to say, we kind of agree, but wouldn’t (and yes, it pains us to say this) Olivier be responsible for that particular look?

Just saying…

Lively Does Indeed Land W Cover

blake lively pulling a claire danes for w magazine.jpgRumors of Blake Lively being in either W or Vogue have been at least half confirmed with Blake’s four page interview on W’s site.

Read it to hear about how she eats, how she’s blessed, how she doesn’t really like to go out and considers herself a little “geeky,” and to see if you can stomach yet another starlet interview that launches with a beautiful girl “digging” into a vegetable dish.

So will she be in Vogue soon, too? Only time will tell, but until then, we’re hoping W can fit in an interview with our vote for the hottest Gossip girl - though we think we might prefer an interview with Blair..

Round Two: W vs. Vogue

vogue with drew barrymore on cover.jpgAnother message, from 10:36pm last night:

Hi Ladies,

Just got home and saw the comment madness over Blake Lively and thought I’d clear the air. I’m interning in PR for a luxury designer, and we had a request for some samples for her last week. For Vogue.

The request came for MMB’s assistant (who happens to be, strangely, Tory Burch’s step-daughter, Izzie). I don’t remember if it was for MMB’s Index or for another shoot, Izzie also handles the American market requests for any fashion shoots.

But the samples were definitely for Blake Lively and definitely sent to Vogue last week, dropped off at 4 Times Square on the 12th floor.

Night!

Then, from a friend at 12:08am:

Lively Lands W?

blake lively.jpgTo: tips@fashionista.com
From: pop_secret@condenast.com

Dear Fashionista,

We work at one of Conde Nast’s publications, (can’t say which, obviously), but we know which cover she’ll be gracing soon. We saw the W mock up in the elevator this morning.

It was on its way to the the imaging dept. Hope this helps settle your commenters’ debate!

You know you love us, xoxo

Well, we’re really not sure why Blake would have been at 4 Times Square if it really was for W, and we’re pretty sure the entirety of W is on one floor anyway, so that elevator thing doesn’t sit quite right, but, we share nonetheless.

Blake, Coming to a Magazine Near You

blake livey from gossip girl asking whats wrong with you with just her face.jpgThis just in from the caf:

“Blake Lively spotted lunching at 4 Times Square, with a certain fashion assistant and her manager in tow. She was there for a fitting, but with which magazine, I’m not sure…”

A little math: Couldn’t be Lucky, since she was just on their January cover, and she was just on Teen Vogue’s March. Realistically, that would only leave Glamour, Allure and Vogue.

Oh yeah, the rest of that conversation:

“I think the assistant might have been that girl from Vogue.

But we highly doubt it could be for the cover - right?

Shopbop Fall Sale, Now

jackie o black halo dress.jpgIt’s not even fall yet - ok, well technically it might be, but our legs are still bare - and Shopbop’s already launched their autumn sale.

They have seventy-two pages full of Alex Wang tanks, DVF dresses, Marc by Marc jewels and our favorite Toms.

The best pick? The Black Halo dress Serena wore to the dean’s “gathering” last night. The deep-v, open back sheath is called the “Cutaway Jackie O Dress”, which we don’t think Jackie O would’ve liked very much. Only the all-black one is on sale.

It should probably be called the blonde starlet dress.

And it should probably be worn on a date or to a cocktail party instead of an academic occasion.

But maybe that’s just us. Happy shopping!

If The Gossip Girls Were Designers…

gossip girl shoes.jpgEventually, one of the Gossip Girl stars will design some kind of line. Our money’s on Blake being the first, but until then, here’s a sneak peek of what those designs would probably look like -

Blake, Leighton, and even Michelle, have all designed shoes for Stuart Weitzman’s Annual Celebrity Shoe Auction, and so far, Blake’s candy-themed kicks (no doubt courting comparisons like “sweet” and “confectious”) are going for the highest of the three at $300 - Leighton’s in the middle and Michelle’s on the right.

No doubt none of these girls would wear any of these designs (though we bet Georgina would sport Michelle’s metal star ones), but that’s really besides the point.

In other celebrity/designer news, everyone’s tickled that Ashley Olsen’s designing a menswear line for The Row, launching as soon as next Fall. We’re hoping - and willing to bet - that it’ll still be worn by more girls than guys. We definitely see little Grey Ant-style vests and loose trousers in their very near future…

An Open Letter to Blake Lively

blake lively at gossip girl premier.jpgHi Blake,

We love your show. And while some in our office might be on Team Blair, we love you, too.

And so we’re kind of worried about you. Have you lost track of where Serena Van Der Woodsen ends and Blake Lively begins?

It’s ok that you’re dating your on-screen boyfriend off-screen, apparently everyone does that, but we’re concerned with your wardrobe. See, Serena’s outfits are ok for TV, (truthfully, sometimes they’re a little much), but they’re not ok for real life. And yet you pile on the accessories and carry the outrageous bags through New York as if you can’t leave GG world.

We love Vena Cava too, but they’re Serena’s favorite brand and there’s really no need for you to wear every single romper they’ve ever made.

And the outfit you wore to the premiere party this weekend, at left, had us super worried until we realized that it was the premier party and you’re probably just getting into character.

You should talk to Sarah Jessica Parker about this, she managed to learn a lot from Pat Field without ever actually dressing like Carrie.

Can’t wait til the 1st!

xo,
F

Vena Cava Kicks

blake van der lively.jpgVena Cava’s partnering with Via Spiga to create a four piece capsule shoe collection.

Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock, the designers behind the almost five year-old, beloved Brooklyn brand will debut the shoes on their Spring 09 runway. They’ll be paired with their “Egyptomania” collection - which, according to WWD, means strappy sandals and pyramid studs, though we’re dreaming of lapis accents and gold leaf.

The girls have played around with accessories before, in the form of bags and jewelry casually constructed in their design studio, but they’ve always considered shoes, “a dream design project”.

The shoes will retail from $300 to $850 and be available exclusively at Via Spiga’s new Soho flagship and online.

But don’t worry, we guarantee you’ll see them on the feet of Serena Van Der Woodsen/Blake Lively way before then.

What, No “Team Chuck”?

team blair fred flare shirt.jpgThe GG obsession over at Fred Flare continues -

We’re kind of loving these “Team Blair” and “Team Serena” tees, even if they do sort of take what should be a private Monday night event into a little bit of too-embarrassing-for-public territory, and are much too reminiscent of other reality-TV tees of its time.

But we do sometimes purchase ahead of actual wearing time - like, wayyy ahead. Wouldn’t this be the funniest thing to rip out of the back of your closet in like ten years?

We suggest Team Blair, because, really, Serena’s too whiny for wear.

An Open Letter Re: Gossip Girl

chuck.jpgDear New York City Bars,

Why don’t you show Gossip Girl on your screens?

I spent yesterday evening happily watching Lost in a silent bar full of revelers swigging their free shots every time someone suggested Jack might die - imagine the possibilities with GG.

Free shots each time Dan caresses Serena’s face? Or, every time Blair and Chuck exchange death stares? How about every time a bow appears?

See, I don’t have a TV, and it’s absolutely impossible to leave my house on a Tuesday morning and not know every detail of the previous night’s episode before 11 am. Forget the plot, I’m talking about the color of Chuck’s socks, the length of Serena’s hair, the brightness of Jenny’s shoes - people want to tell me everything.

Not to mention, it’s already been widely discussed that a lot of GG’s viewers used to catch the show online - but now they’re not allowing that, so what are we supposed to do? Wait til Saturday, when we can already recite the plot by heart thanks to our annoying friends on AIM? I don’t think so.

In fact, Beauty Bar, if you’re listening, this would be perfect for you.

Thanks,

Total Knock-Out

kimberley baker ring.jpgA good friend of ours, like any good PR girl who knows about our teensy tiny Gossip Girl fixation, sent us some info on Kimberly Baker.

Maybe you’ve never heard that name before, but you will soon - her jewelry’s been all over your TV sets, subliminally seeping onto wish lists everywhere courtesy of Serena, Blair, Jenny, and even Vanessa - you can also see Mary-Kate sporting her Wolfette ring on her January NYLON cover.

Considering at least one Kimberly Baker piece has been spotted on literally every female GG character, we’re just waiting to see a throw-down between Georgina and, well, anybody, involving Kim’s Bianca Ring, at left (our favorite).

Ok - I will now return to moderating the ongoing battle for official “Chuck’s Girlfriend” title here in the office.

Just saw Serena, Chuck, Nate, Eric, Lily, Bart, and Queen B at the Palace for Lily and Barts’s wedding!

Queen B was wearing a hot pink floral dress and a hot pink headband and flats.

No Jenny or Dan - significant?

Even stranger: Lily wasn’t wearing a wedding dress, but Bart was in his tux. Weird wedding.

Thanks for the spot - you might like this, too, though we don’t know how much of a surprise it is…
