Bam Bam

JEREMY SCOTT SS10 .jpgSomeone tweeted that they skipped yesterday’s Jeremy Scott show because they weren’t sure they could handle him so early in the morning.

You don’t really know what you’ll get with Scott, though bright colors and something giggle-worthy’s guaranteed, but this time he wasn’t just inspired by a particular pop culture icon, he actually sent the Flintstone family down his runway.

Pixie Geldof stood in for Wilma, Chanel was the perfect Bam Bam and Cole Mohr, well his barely there Speedo wasn’t exactly Fred-like, but he was still head of the house in his “Your Cave or Mine?” shirt.

Even more disturbing than the dude in a hot pink one-strapped Borat-like bathing suit was the amount of weight Daisy Lowe appears to have lost. Between her and Lara Stone’s new approach, we’re already lamenting the loss of a single curve on next season’s runways.

Osman Yousefzada

OSMAN SS10 .jpgYesterday’s Osman collection was all white, like Eun Jeong’s the day before and unlike everything else we’ve seen at London Fashion Week.

Apparently, he’d always wanted to make one like it, but never had the resources since such a simple palette requires the absolute best fabrics etc.

Word is Osman’s collection sells out quite quickly (faster than McQueen even on some London shop floors), but this collection didn’t exactly explain why. Though the front row was packed with major British buyers, the clothes weren’t exactly flattering. And though Sessilee Lopez ruled the runway, even she looked slightly uncomfortable in her all white get-up.

Though navy blue’s about as colorful as I get, this really could’ve used something extra (and not just the gold accent squares).

Who Doesn't Love Zac?

ZAC POSEN SS10 9.jpgMarc has instilled such fear in me that I still insist on being punctual to shows even though I always (90% of the time) end up waiting 45 minutes.

So with coffee in hand I sat and watched Mark Ronson DJ for a good fifteen minutes until Rachel Zoe arrived and I could stare at her equally gorgeous nude Alaia wedges. Then I pondered Anna Wintour’s security guard. Has she always had him? Does she need him now that’s she’s a movie star? Was it for the mega necklace she was wearing over her beige dress? Bee sat next to her and I wanted to ask if she made it home with as much random candy as a I did post-Courtney Love. Olivier Zahm ended up on the floor next to Genevieve Jones, but after last night’s debaucherous Purple party I’m kind of impressed he made it at all.

We sat on pink chairs, like last season’s LV shows, in a salon set up while the models walked down a plush pink carpet. A retro, sexy stewardess look kicked everything off - including see-through plastic trenches and maribou furs before Zac went for disco with long pleated dresses and vibrant prints. Rachel Zoe was on, “I die” repeat in my head. That J. Alexander was backstage instructing the girls was clear - they pranced down the carpet with hands in the air stopping and twirling twice before hitting the pit.

It was the best Monday morning I’ve ever had.

Spring 2010 New York

On Today

satc sign.jpgWhen everyone in fashion gathers in one place, people talk. Here’s what they said today.

1. Becka Diamond for Nylon TV? The latest New York it girl’s been sitting front row at all the best (and by best I mean most fun) shows - Wang, Altuzzara, Ronson - and now we hear she’ll start hosting segments for Nylon TV. Phillip Lim, up first.

2. The Daily’s not-so-blind items. On day one they published an entire page of awful things done by fashion people and most of them couldn’t have been less subtle.

3. White girls and skinny girls. After a summer of talking about race and weight, the girls on this season’s runways couldn’t possibly be any skinnier. And aside from a couple of Chanel Iman and Sessilee Lopez sightings, we can honestly say they’ve never looked whiter.

4. Tonight’s Gareth Pugh ‘experience’ is sensorial. Apparently, it’ll be really hot inside, but you only have to stay for five minutes.

5. Sex and the City’s filming all over West Broadway tomorrow. So if the tents aren’t packed enough for you, head below Houston for increased fashion mayhem.

Trendspotting

Fruity Flavor

48674_in_dl[1].jpgEarlier this summer, Carolina Herrera waved aside any Elle Woods’ prejudices and gushed about the color orange, calling it “the new red” and using it prominently in her lovely Resort 2010 collection.

I love orange, and am totally willing to jump onto the trend, but unfortunately something about an orange dress - on me- is not quite right. I have yet to find an one that I can rock like Karlie or Sessilee did on the runway, instead I end up looking like an elementary school teacher dressing for Halloween.

Enter orange accessories. I’m particularly drawn to this clutch and these pointed flats that I saw on Net-a-Porter. Both are from Jil Sander, where Raf Simons also gave us some beautiful orange dresses for fall. Loving that clutch: great color, great design.

Barney’s has a ton of orange wallets and accessories, mostly by Valextra. And of course Hermes has gorgeous options. But the pickings are still a little slim at this point. Tell us, have you spotted any good jewelry or shoes in “the new red”?

Mid-Day Snack

blondesessilee.jpgBlonde Ambition: Sessilee lightens up in Vogue Italia. We rather like it. {FashionGoneRogue}

Dirrrty Riot Grrrls: We can’t wait to see what sartorial decisions Christina Aguilera makes based on her new musical collabo with feminist trio Le Tigre. Maybe she’ll bring back some weirdo pants just to spite Lady Gaga. {Popwatch}

The Baron Returns: Fabien’s back in at Interview. We get why they need his creativity, but still haven’t quite decided what the upside is for him. Word has it much more staff shuffling is to come. {FWD}

Model Girfriend: Kanye’s lady (or maybe ex?) Amber Rose just signed with Ford. We’re supposed to see him at a party tonight…stay tuned tomorrow for updated relationship status. {Racked}

Love to Love You, Zac

ZacPosenResort22.JPGIn a brightly lit section of his lofted office space downtown and set to the tune of a “Love to Love You, Baby” remix, Zac Posen showed his 09/10 Resort Collection to small groups throughout the day. We took in the collection with Kate Lanphear, Hal Rubenstein, and supermodel Pat Cleveland, whose daughter Anna closed the show, as watched beaming with pride.

Hana Soukupova opened the 30 look collection in a structured day dress and was followed down the short runway by girls like Sessilee, Alana, Tiiu, and Jeisa. Mannequins around the room, and even one seated in the front row, showed off additional pieces of the resort collection.

The designer referenced the Studio 54 days of Nan Kempner and Kay Thompson, where they’d be hosting a fancy garden party by day and grooving at the famous club by night. We were particularly taken with the bright bows and one ridiculously larger than life cape over a bubblegum pink gown. And this perfect polka dot suit!

Like all things Zac, it was refined and structured with a few over-the-top elements thrown in for a bit of fun and whimsy. From the splashes of orange under skirts, to the hot pink patent shoes and some super dramatic headwear, it made us smiley and happy in that special way that only Zac can make us feel.

Chanel & Sessilee in Times Square

sessilee lopez shoots times square.jpgChanel Iman, Sessilee Lopez and Jourdan Dunn shot what they promised to be a “major” editorial in London last month.

We still don’t know where it’s going or what it’s for but the girls have been much more forthcoming since their return to New York. Yeterday, Chanel twittered that she was shooting an editorial with Peter Lindbergh and swore the pictures would be “collectible” while Sessilee Lopez posed for Ellen Von Unwerth in Milk Studios. Today, the two of them are working together in Times Square and Sessilee thinks you should stop by.

If you make it, we want to know who’s behind the camera and what the girls are wearing. Major bonus points if you send pictures!

Barneys Subtle Ode to Olsen

enikos row.jpgWe’ve always been intrigued by Mary-Kate and Ashley’s adamant choice to remain invisible from The Row.

They’ll make public appearances for Elizabeth and James and talk about it in the press, but when it comes to their $300 t-shirt line they didn’t even advertise until this season and they refuse to let themselves be too publicly associated with it.

But the retailers who are determined to sell their line through this recession can’t help but push a little bit of Olsen into the leather jackets and cotton tees. The Spring 09 editorial-like, giant size Barneys catalog was shot by Patrick Demarchelier and stars a string of current top models rocking head to toe runway looks.

On the last page Eniko wears The Row, with cleaned up Olsen hair, over-sized shades, perfectly chunky Louboutin platforms and for extra emphasis, a white paper coffee cup.

The twins might not want to be the face of The Row, they might want their clients to buy their line based on quality and design expertise, but Barneys knows it takes more than that to sell a $550 white v-neck.

Fashion Is Fun

Before They Were Stars

sessilee lopez in project runway.jpgFact: Sessilee Lopez is from Philadelphia.

Fact: She’s really pretty.

Fact: Before she was on one of the four covers of the Vogue Italia of all time, some people were kind of like, who’s Sessilee Lopez?

Fact: We knew she’d been in some ads and catalogues, and walked as a runway semi-regular, but here’s another tidbit that’s just been realized -

Before she was being shot alongside Naomi, Sessilee was on Project Runway, as one of the models.

Here she is modeling Christian Siriano’s final look from Season 4 in Bryant Park this past February.

And now you can all go, “Oooohhhhh.”
