gaga vogue but showstudio midday.jpgGet Involved: Though there are a handful of dissenters, the relationship between fashion and Gaga isn’t waning. You can play, too. Leather Heads

super long fingerless leather gloves.jpgWe’re not breaking out gloves quite yet, in fact, we’re not even wearing tights today.

But the cold is coming and until we find the nerve to buy leather pants, which after reading this quote from Stella McCartney we probably won’t, we’re going to lust after these from American Retro.

They’re the arm equivalent to thigh-high boots, reaching up almost in to your armpit (though not quite because that would be uncomfortable). The buttery black leather’s cut off at the end, so your fingers are free and you can wear them at all times and though they’re expensive, they’ll qualify as a classic in the right wardrobe.

We’d suggest pairing with something more like Garance’s MaxMara coat than the model’s Jenny Humphrey hair, but that’s just us.

Adventures in Copyright: Cold Shoulder

karlcynthiashoulder.jpgWe felt a little confused today when we came across this Cynthia Rowley dress on shopbop.com.

With Paris SS10 shows still on our minds, Cynthia’s dress immediately reminded us of this Karl Lagerfeld look. The halter neck, cut-out shoulders, and wide waist belt are strikingly similar—though the rest of the design is obviously different. (And we’re not going to lie and say we don’t like one more than the other. We’re sure you can guess which one.)

But Cynthia’s dress is from her FW09 collection, meaning that if anyone was guilty of copying its neckline, it would be Karl.

Could be sheer coincidence or not…what do you think? We’d very much like to hear your thoughts on the matter!

Detail-Oriented

landvernecklace.jpg On nasty, icky days like today, I hardly want to get out of bed, let alone get dressed up for work. No matter how badly I’d love to pull on a cozy sweatshirt and run out of the house in rain boots, I hate feeling sloppy in addition to my rainy-day blues.

As per usual, Shopbop has provided me with a cure for the common get-up. New on the site today is a jewelry line called Landver, which features a collection of moderately priced, on-trend pieces that are perfect for everyday wear.

This necklace, when worn with a t-shirt or sweater, could elevate any outfit from casual to chic. The line includes bracelets, necklaces, and earrings made in silver, gold-tone, and leather.

With most of the items priced well under $100, I’d even consider buying this cuff or a few of these cute, braided bracelets to pile on when I am feeling less-than-enthused about choosing an ensemble.

The Long and Short of It

twang2001812867_p1_v1_m56577569831772253_254x500.jpgOne thing that I spotted on girls all over NY during Fashion Week that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on was the long-sleeved mini dress. I loved that the simple piece was versatile enough to look striking in both daytime street style shots and each evening’s party pics.

Everywhere I turned, this style seemed to pop up. Hanne Gaby Odiele paired hers with a leather jacket and black booties at the Alexander Wang after-party, and Harley Viera-Newton wore a blue velvet Erin Wasson x RVCA dress to Wasson’s show at the tents.

Possibly the greatest thing about this dress is that there are so many affordable versions of it. The T by Alexander Wang style is on Shopbop for $90, and there is also this Velvet option for $86 that comes in three colors.

If we are in for a few more weeks of warm weather, I can’t wait to wear this dress on its own, but I’m sure it will work just as well with tights and a cozy sweater as soon as the temperature drops.

Fetherston’s Film Debut

Scratch that.

Erin Fetherston’s short film, Birds of a Fether, just premiered on Style.com. The four minute piece features Paz de la Huerta, Ingrid Schram, Daria Strokous, all-girl punk band Effi Briest and a bevy of models following Erin throughout the West Village. Director Marisa Crawford imagined the designer as a pied piper-like leader and her collection couldn’t be more perfect for the fantasy.

If you’d rather see Erin’s clothes in person, you can log on to Shopbop and win a three day trip to New York, two tickets to Erin’s SS10 show, $1000 shopping spree to Shopbop and $400 spending money for your days in New York.

Native American Inspired Jewelry: Too Much or Crafty Fun?

jacquiaichebracelet.jpgAs the week winds down, I usually drift around to my various shopping sites. Just now I landed over on Shopbop and saw a bunch of Native American-inspired jewelry by Jacquie Aiche.

It drew me in with its color and the bracelet’s pretty cute. My style tends toward the hippie and the granola and the Adirondacks on a regular basis. But I’m not so sure about these earrings. And the headband is just over the top to me.

Plus I have no idea if there’s any sort of authenticity to the pieces (doubting there is) which makes me hesitant about the bracelet too.

What do you think? Fun arts and crafts or way way too much?

Mad For Plaid

plaidtshirttornbyronnykobo.jpgMaybe it’s because I miss the plaid button downs I lived in all winter. Maybe it’s because my iPod has been very into playing Nirvana while on random shuffle this week. Or maybe it’s because I’m already thinking about my weekend in the country.

Whatever it is, I was very drawn to this plaid tee while perusing the new goods over at Shopbop.

I’m seeing it with black shorts and some chunky boots. I’d even go all in with Doc Martens.

In fact, this may well be my next music festival outfit. All Points West here I come. And in a random sidenote on the APW topic: Get well soon, MCA!

Shiny, Pretty Thing

juicycouturering.jpgMaybe it’s all the bold dresses at couture that have me in a statement sort of mood because this Juicy Couture ring (new at Shopbop) isn’t usually the kind of thing that catches my eye.

One, I don’t wear a lot of jewelry. Two, when I do, it is usually some sort of big ring, but more of the vintage bauble variety.

But I like this little resin/crystal number. It feels very ’80s video game-y to me, which I realize is a totally odd thing to reference when discussing a ring. I just call ‘em like I see ‘em.

Though I will say that I think you have to wear something along the lines of a simple white tank and boyfriend jean combination so as not to veer into the gaudy territory.

Am I crazy, or is this kind of cute?

Adventures in Copyright: A Tribute?

YSLpolliniAICgraphic.jpgThe YSL Tribute sandals are a pair of shoes we have long longed to have in our closets.

The Tribs have been reincarnated several times by YSL—a pump, a sandal, a slingback, an ankle boot. The good folks over at Pollini obviously decided that they, too, should take a stab at reinterpreting the shoe.

The weaving of the leather straps on the toe of the sandal, the platform, and the ankle strap of this version available on Shirise for $760 have been almost exactly replicated.

The Pollini shoe was originally $515 at Shopbop, but is now on sale for $360.50. Perhaps they realized people would rather shell out another $200 for the real deal instead of a copy. Because adding some wood does not a new shoe make.

Hand Over Your Wallet

seebychloewallet.jpgI’ve been trolling the internet looking for wallets. For Britt. The girl literally stuffs her cash, credit cards, etc into her bag with reckless abandon and zero organization.

It makes me nervous in a “feel like my mom way” every time I see her reach into her bag. Seriously, it’s giving me major agita.

And in the meantime, I’ve realized that my own M by MJ is about a hundred years old and covered in pen marks, so maybe I should upgrade too..

This afternoon I happened upon this darling See by Chloe wallet that just happens to be on sale at Shopbop. It’s not the cheapest, but I have no problem investing in something that I use every single day. And will likely keep for years.

Plus, how happy would this make you every time you saw its bright green color and fun little cutouts?

Britt, however is in the market for something simpler. More like classic Prada or YSL. But if she doesn’t get one soon, I’m going to have to buy her one, if only to stop my multiple daily panic attacks. Feel free to send suggestions.

Adventures in Copyright: Ruffle Us This

ASOS POUR LA VICTOIRE LOUBOUTIN.jpgWe’re usually drooling over Christian Louboutin’s killer pumps, but the Spring 09 Adona have had our hearts beating fast since we laid eyes on their first incarnation on Phillip Lim’s runway.

Surprising to learn ASOS and Pour La Victoire are also big fans - they’ve gone ahead and knocked off the darling shoe. The Louboutins are going for $1,265 while ASOS black version’s sell for around $45 and Pour La Victoire’s for $225 on Shopbop. With the drastic price cut comes a downsized top ruffle - a shame since the brashness of the original made us love it so much in the first place. It’s like the shoe itself is embarrassed over its identity theft and is trying not to be noticed.

Would You Wear Slashed Leggings?

slashed leggings would you wear.jpgWe’re suddenly overwhelmed with the presence of slashed leggings.

They’re on the What’s New page at Shopbop, in the windows at American Apparel, at BBQs in Brooklyn and even uptown. We’re not really sure where they came from - a strange hybrid of the ripped jean trend, spring’s cut-outs and the not-going-anywhere love of leggings?

Our first question is, even if you’re skinny, doesn’t fat, or at least skin squeeze out of the spandex slits? Also, leggings are tight and uncomfortable post-40° weather so what time of year are these made for?

And how do the striped holes not rip into one gaping hole on the side of one’s leg? And are they worn as pants or under dresses?

So tell us, if you don’t answer to name Little J, are you wearing these?

Would You Wear (Faux) Boxers?

boxers we want, we love.jpgWhen Vivienne Westwood sent a model down her SS09 runway in those Union Jack shorts, we felt like we needed fancy boxers.

Then Teen Vogue featured ruched cotton shorts in a March editorial. They came in striped blues and reds, like bloomers, but with nothing over them. The credits listed Brooks Brothers so we went to the store and scoured the site until we realized the models were just wearing men’s boxers probably sewn by a handy Conde intern.

And today we saw these Current/Elliot shorts on Shopbop - basically fancy boxers even if they’re called “distressed denim.”

But we found a pair of pre-sewed-to-look-like-bloomers this weekend and no matter what we tried them on with - silk tank, plaid button down, white t-shirt - they still just looked like boxers. And while we’ll wear pretty much anything at least once and we obviously work in an office lacking any sort of dress-code, the idea of going out in men’s underwear just feels awkward, no?
