This, the trailer for Tom Ford’s highly anticipated directorial debut, A Single Man, dropped a couple of week’s ago.
But not even Ford penetrated our Fashion Week bubble, which means we’re just seeing and sharing it now, in case you missed it, too.
We’ve already watched it four times (seriously) because even though no one speaks and the story looks terrifying, it’s stunning. From Julianne Moore’s exquisite make-up to the costumes to the furniture to the icy crash and all the men in between, each and every shot is almost shockingly beautiful. Like Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette before it, Ford’s made a visual feast.
They might make little more than sweaters, but they do manage to corral the most stylish women into guest designing those fancy sweaters.
From Kirsten Dunst to Jane Birkin to Sofia Coppola (though who hasn’t she collaborated with?) - their Fashion Week presentations are just as fun for the clothes as they are for the sightings and this one might beat it: Natalia Vodianova’s their next guest.
As of February, Natalia also designs lingerie for Etam (she’s their brand ambassador, too), which means she’s got you covered from the waist up.
Chloë Sevigny mentioned to style.com that she’d be interested in collaborating with a high-end company, voicing admiration for Sofia Coppola’s collaboration with Louis Vuitton.
Now, we’ve loved Chloë since Kids and her intern days at Sassy, and think she has great personal style, but her collection for Opening Ceremony was…fine. The pieces she rocks best usually aren’t her own designs. So, I’m not sure why she should garner so much positive attention as a potential designer.
It’s not that I think actresses or singers or artists shouldn’t be able to try their hand at design (I too am loving the Sofia-designed Louis bag), but just because a gal (or guy) dresses well, doesn’t mean they should be invited into the fashion industry to run around like a kid in a candy shop.
Everyone cheers for Chloë but freaks out about Miley and Lindsay. The freak-outs are for good reason, no arguments here. But I’m also personally done with Chloë as fashion designer.
Steven Alan might be the trickiest Life With subject yet.
He doesn’t just design men’s, women’s and children’s collections; he doesn’t just run a showroom representing over twenty of New York’s hippest designers; and he doesn’t just operate ten of his own stores - he also hangs out with his seven-year-old son. They like to eat things like seaweed with rice and salami and tuna and rank their favorite chefs.
But when he’s working, Alan works hard, scouting the best new designers to fill both his showroom and his store while maintaining one of the most cohesive design visions around.
After the jump, I try to understand just how he wears so many hats, so well.
(And since the Life Withs get longer and longer as I get more curious, check back tomorrow for Part II.)
We interrupt this cold and snowy day to bring you something that, depending on your mood, will make you smile or make you cry.
If you’re having a good day and there’s a trip to Paris with bicycles and macaroons in your near future, Sofia Coppola’s commercial will make you want to skip down the sidewalk.
But, if you’re having a bad day and the only thing you have to look forward to is next week’s Gossip Girl, this girl’s ridiculously perfect, ridiculously gorgeous life might put you over the edge.
No matter which side you fall on, please note the Vogue shout out mid-commercial. Do you think that’s paid product placement or Sofia’s suggestion that life can’t be perfect without a copy of Vogue on the vanity?
Milla Jovovich’s brood is the latest to pose with fancy luggage.
According to WWD, the designer’s family’s been shot on Mulholland Dr. lounging in front of her car, surrounded by the newest Samsonite Black Label bags.
The ads will debut just in time to compete with probably a better known family hawking a better known brand - the Coppolas for Louis Vuitton.
Our family vacations aren’t quite as calm or as elegant as the ads portray.
But maybe it’s because we don’t spend more on our luggage than on the vacation itself.
That rumor we spread about Mark Fast doing a line for Topshop? It's true. And it's in last week's Sunday Telegraph magazine which means it was true before we even said anything and we've had it in our lap since... Read More
