Starworks’ Westward Expansion

starworksla2.jpgYesterday brought news that Paul Wilmot is shuttering his west coast operations saying, “I opened up the Los Angeles office to see if there was there was business for us out there, and we just didn’t find it.”

But others, like Starworks, are finding business booming. In fact they just doubled their office size by moving into new 5000 square foot digs on Beverly Boulevard.

Allison Oleskey, who heads up the LA office of 15 employees, tells us, “As we expand our offerings and client range in LA, we felt the need to move to a larger space that would better accommodate our brands and also better reflect the Starworks aesthetic. We have always been passionate about the LA Market and see tremendous opportunity in the years to come.”

the last  magazine midday intern.jpgBe the Last Intern: Magnus Berger and Tenzin Wild’s The Last Magazine needs design and production interns. You need experience and three to five days free to work. {Starworks}

Break It Down: Peter Brant spends $500,000 a month on his polo ponies. He doesn’t understand why his soon to be ex, Stephanie Seymour, spends $50,000 a month on clothes when she could just fly to Paris and take them from Alaia’s studio. And that’s just the tip of their divorce iceberg. {Jezebel}

Sex on Fire Sells:
The Kings of Leon have partnered with Surface to Air to make clothes. The Tennessee kids whipped up some flannel, denim and a leather jacket of course that’ll only be available at Copenhagen’s Paris Texas. {Blackbook}

Birthdays & More: Gemma Ward shares her big day with Anna Wintour, though almost forty years later. She was out and about in New York looking almost unrecognizable. {BryanBoy}

La Perla’s Sneak Peek

la perla aw09.jpgLa Perla’s having a party and you’re invited.

Next Tuesday, March 24th, their CEO’s hosting a shopping shindig at their Meatpacking District store (425 West 14th Street). The new Spring 09 collection will be available for previews and since it’s the first official week of spring, and it’s been a very gloomy winter, we’re all for indulging in a new pink bra.

The party’s being co-hosted by Genevieve Jones which means the added bonus of previewing Jones’ Spring accessories collection.

There will be cocktails, of course, and 25% off everything in the store. The event’s from 7 - 9pm and the only catch is that you have to RSVP (and be 21!) - laperlarsvp@starworksny.com.

See you there!

From Starworks to DVF (to TV?)

whitney port tries to stay awake at work.jpgIf you happen to know Kate Bartle, Starworks’ Director of Accessories, then you may or may not already know this:

Kate’s left her PR job at Starworks as of yesterday.

Her mega destination? Working in the PR department of DVF.

Which, I’m sure you’ve all put together by now, means she’s Whitney Port’s newest co-worker (and confidante?) and our favorite new pick for reality show cast member.

And now you know.

Temperley Ditches the Runway

temperley spring 09.jpgAlice Temperley’s the latest designer to cancel her Fall 09 runway show and the first outside of New York.

The British designer, who just returned to London Fashion Week after years in New York, has been planning this for over a year.

She, along with various directors, artists and photographers, will stage a series of installations in New York, London and Paris in collaboration with MILK Studios and Starworks. They’ll be half digital, half live and distributed to the media and customers just as soon as editors and buyers get a peek. The concept debuts February 18th during New York Fashion Week.

“The four seasonal installations will allow us to communicate our brand message and aesthetic to a larger international audience while supporting both economic and environmental challenges,” says Lars, Alice’s husband and the company’s CEO.

He’s right - each season the idea of sending ten editors and five buyers from the same magazine or store all over the world for a month sounds more and more antiquated and becomes less and less necessary.

With our love divided equally between the internet and trips to Paris, it’s hard to say just which side we’re on.

Starworks Needs a Star Worker

costello tagliapietra spring 09 look 2.jpgStarworks, the fashion PR company that reps Costello Tagliapietra, James Jeans, La Perla, Sari Gueron and Temperley, needs interns to start in January.

They’re looking for young people who know they want to be publicists, and who don’t mind that it’s unpaid. The position is specifically to help with fashion PR and events, which means if you can score the spot, we’ll see you at Fashion Week.

E-mail events1[at]starworksny.com with your resume and a cover letter telling them all about why you want to work in events/PR, with at least 2 “relevant” (your babysitting and Dairy Queen bosses don’t count) references. And maybe they’ll even let you write for their highly entertaining blog.

Joy Bryant: Blogger

joy bryant big smile.jpgWe noticed Joy Bryant snapping pictures from her usual front row seat at more than a few shows this past Fashion Week. We thought they were just for some kind of personal wardrobe management plan, but it turns out she’s been guest blogging the shows for Starworks.

We have no idea if the Next model / actress / Vogue girl about town’s planning on turning this into a full-time gig, but Starworks says she didn’t just blog for Fashion Week - she’ll continue to fill them in on her random musings and life bits throughout the rest of the year.

It’s a nice addition to the already entertaining Starworks blog - we highly suggest her post on never wanting to use the Shuffle mode on her iTunes she wrote for today. Kind of makes us wish F*** Me Pumps would “randomly” come on whenever we see a Gucci tote out at night, but that’s really a whole separate post.

Quote of the Day

“Fashion has to be political. Fashion is the first flag of culture, which is necessarily hemmed by politics.” —Daphne Guinness discussing her film, Phenomenology of Body, on Starworks’ blog.
