Sorry for the minor Life With gap - we’ve been busy!
We’re getting back in the swing of things, so meet Rolando Beauchamp.
He’s a Bumble & bumble super stylist who does both editorial and runway work. And oh yeah, he styles Mary-Kate Olsen’s hair for most major events in New York.
I fell for him backstage at Vivienne Westwood’s AW09 Gold Label show in Paris this past March while we both kind of passed out from the joy of being in a basement with Dame Viv, Pam Anderson and a bunch of models for a few hours. He’s vivacious, friendly and so fun to talk to. So when I wanted a Life With a stylist, he was my first choice.
We sat down to talk hair (obviously), growing up on the Lower East Side in the 60’s, Olsens, divas and his dream gig (are you there Carine?).
You know the drill. Part II tomorrow!

So it’s true - Marc is in fact resurrecting Stephen Sprouse for Louis Vuitton next month.
The launch will coincide with Deitch Projects’ 80s retrospective, (they’re the ones who initially suggested a re-do to Marc) and the Rizzoli book on Sprouse. But the Louis products - bags, scarves, leggings, etc - are all Marc since Sprouse passed away in 2004.
Marc says, “I just felt it was a funny way to play with it, to pretend to be Sprouse for a bit, and use the work that he did, and then bring it back to the work that he did before I collaborated with him.”
The online component is the coolest part though, (unless you’re holding your breath for neon rose-covered monogrammed sneakers). On December 15, Vuitton will launch welovesprouse.com with everything you need to know about the late artist and interviews from his friends including Pat Field and Debbie Harry.
And of course, no Marc project post-2007 would be complete without naked Marc, so thankfully, Terry Richardson shot the graffitied Jacobs for next month’s issue of Bazaar.
At this rate, the Deitch opening will more than make up for Marc’s canceled holiday party.
Is Louis Vuitton reviving the Stephen Sprouse graffiti bags for Spring?
Reports are flooding in from various magazines that samples of the now infamous black and white prints, along with a version printed in neon roses, are being called in - and they can’t all be vintage.
[Story time! I once spent a high school summer at Brown - it was my introduction to old east coast money and a lesson in all things brand-related when it wasn’t a lesson in Philosophy & Film. There was this one guy, he was going to Yale in the fall, who was psyched to get his girlfriend this “super exclusive, super expensive, limited-edition Stephen Sprouse for Louis Vuitton bag.” He talked about it all summer and I’m pretty sure that girlfriend eventually got ditched for a boyfriend.
Regardless, he was really annoying and I wish I could tell him his super exclusive bag will once again be available for everyone to buy.]
Anyway, Madonna for Louis makes so much more sense if it’s Madonna for Sprouse for Louis. We’re now expecting colorfully awesome ads.
In the upcoming Confessions of a Shopaholic, Isla Fisher’s character carries a black and white Stephen Sprouse for Louis Vuitton bag.
We know this because no matter where we go in the city, we can’t escape the set. We’re constantly explaining, “We work there!” or “We live there!” to get past the pushy clipboard holders hollering for us to get off the sidewalk.
A good friend happened to snatch a bit part in the film the other day, after which she sent this picture from Victoria’s Secret with the subject, “Look! They’ve already ripped off Isla’s bag!”
Victoria’s Secret poor, but blatant rip-off will probably be the first of many to come. But we hope that instead of an influx of fakes, everyone breaks out their original Stephen Sprouse bags because really, they’re the brightest, most fun status bags ever.
