Punxsutawney may have predicted six more weeks of winter, but thankfully, we’re too busy distracted with promises of more Wintour.
Production company Roadside Attractions won the North American rights to the movie everybody’s dying to see, The September Issue, which means the documentary will definitely hit regular movie screens sometime this year.
In fact, the company is planning a September debut as well as a future home video release. No word yet on when the flick will hit A&E, but something tells us that future September date will coincide with Labor Day weekend to add a little extra buzz to Spring 2010.
In honor of Fall Fashion Week, television stations tend to broadcast fashion-related movies during the month of February, and this year’s no exception.
Lagerfeld Confidential, the documentary about you know who, airs on the Sundance Channel on February 9th at 7pm EST.
Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton, which followed Marc in the making of the Spring 08 LV collections, airs on Sundance on Valentine’s Day at 7pm EST.
Yves St. Laurent: 5 Aveneu Marceau 75116 Paris airs the next day at 7pm EST, also.
I just got back from Sundance and I thought you would find this interesting: I didn’t get to see The September Issue.
However, I did see the U.S. premier of Rudo y Cursi Friday night and guess who was there? Not just Anna Wintour but also her daughter Bee. Apparently they’re big Gael Garcia Bernal/Diego Luna fans as well. The strange thing is, I don’t think anyone else in the theater recognized them.
We don’t know how or when we’ll finally get to see all of The September Issue, but as long as juicy bits like this keep leaking, we might be ok.
Producer and director RJ Cutler talks about when he met Anna, what happened when Grace wasn’t into the idea of film crews at 9am, and how exactly one earns Vogue’s trust.
The opening clip, in which Virginia Smith and Accessories Editor Elissa Santisi pitch Anna ideas for the Fall Fashion issue, is ridiculously Devil Wears Prada-ish. Virginia cowers while Elissa dares an eye roll after an offer of fur fails to placate the boss.
If you’re one of the lucky ducks attending the Sundance Film Festival later this month, then you might be happy to know that the schedule for Anna’s movie, The September Issue, is finally out.
Hopefully you’ll be able to make it to one of the six showings (dates after the jump).
It’s official. The Anna Wintour documentary will be showing at Sundance, and it has a new name - The September Issue.
The film, directed by R.J Cutler, will follow Anna and her crew as they scramble to get the September 2007 issue of Vogue on the shelves. The crew was apparently given “unprecedented access,” which should guarantee some awesome Anna moments.
Needless to say we’re really freaking excited, especially because a showing at Sundance usually leads to a public release, which means we’ll actually be able to see the film. Ergo, we’ll see Anna, in all her Anna-ness, doing what she does best.
But will her performance be better than Meryl Streep’s?
Sometime in the last few years, it was announced that Anna Wintour had consented to people from A&E swamping her 12th floor office, documenting her putting together the September 2007 issue of Vogue for television. We heard there were cameramen spotted in the office from time to time, and then that’s it. It was never mentioned again, and casual Google searches always turned up nothing.
Until now - WWD confirms that the documentary was in fact produced, and despite never having been shown on A&E as promised, it’s up for consideration for the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.
So does this mean everyone’s a little closer to seeing the real-life version of Devil after it (probably) does well at Sundace in a nearby Regal? Fingers crossed.
If the recent barrage of fashion-based reality TV makes you wish for some more reality with your TV, tune into the Sundance Channel tonight, when Stella McCartney appears on Iconoclasts (you know, the show where famous people interview each other) alongside artist Ed Ruscha.
We especially love the clip at left (just for you!), where Stella actually explains the meaning (and point) of creating organic clothes, something that would probably make our uncle say, “please keep that hippie crap to yourself”, in a way that pretty much anyone can understand.
“It’s a survival instinct. But I think, you know, they’re all as bad as each other. I mean, you look at the [art] dealers, it’s a heavy show you’re playing with there. That’s as bad as any retailer I’ve ever come across. It’s the same kind of thing, it’s selling, selling and selling.” - Stella McCartney, in an art world vs. fashion world conversation with artist Ed Ruscha, on an upcoming Iconoclasts.
We hear from Lydia Hearst that Lily Donaldson has a small part in an upcoming movie called Frost.
The film is a biting parody on New York socialites that sounds a little like Election with logos, and stars Ms. Hearst herself as the meanest girl in the Rose Bar.
Lily plays (what else) a model who parties at various must-be-at events, sort of like how she had her birthday party at the Gramercy this weekend (22!) - and really, who else gets away with having their birthday at the Gramercy?
The movie premiered at Sundance. It doesn’t have a buyer yet, but who knows - maybe the people who produced Seamless can scoop it up…
If by the time February 4 rolls around, you’re too tired to even bother going to any of the shows (which we would not recommend - that day includes Betsey Johnson, Proenza, Oscar, Chris Benz), then you can at least get your fashion fix on the Sundance Channel.
And the best of the line up? Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton, the segment that follows Marc around during the creation of his S/S ‘07 collctions for - you guessed it - his Marc and Louis Vuitton RTW lines.
Don’t tell anybody, but here’s a little sneak peak. Sundance says the best part is all the footage in Marc’s workroom, a first for the designer who has never let anyone film his creative process before.
Our favorite part? When Irina mimes the difference between modeling for the Vuitton show (chin up!) and modeling for the Marc show (chin way down) - so cute.
That rumor we spread about Mark Fast doing a line for Topshop? It's true. And it's in last week's Sunday Telegraph magazine which means it was true before we even said anything and we've had it in our lap since... Read More
Meet Blue Logan, if you haven't already. A couple of years ago a friend dragged the soft-spoken Brit to a show at London Fashion Week, Aquascutum he thinks, and he started to draw the models as they walked down the... Read More
