This morning on Twitter, Marc Jacobs muse Bryanboy revealed that he’s about to appear in an advertising campaign.
Of course, we’re most curious about who he’s partnering with. Will it be a major fashion house? Doubtful. Probably something less linear, such as Hewlett Packard—which has collaborated with Vivienne Tam—or Polaroid, who currently works with Lady Gaga.
Regardless of where he lands, this is yet another piece of evidence suggesting fashion bloggers can morph into full-fledged celebrities from flashes in the pan. Tavi’s Rodarte for Target spot was obviously the first indication. (Perez Hilton doesn’t count in this conversation—he began his career writing about celebrities, so it makes sense that he’s become one.)
Fresh Faced: Jessica Biel’s on the cover of Vogue’s February issue (for Valentine’s Day? Really?). We can’t wait to read “The Tale of an Almost Adultress.” Sounds almost interesting…{BryanBoy}
Ford’s Crush:A Single Man star Nicholas Hoult’s in Tom Ford’s spring 2010 eyewear campaign with a very naked Carolyn Murphy. {Fashionologie}
Talk of the Town: Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Target lookbook leaked today. It looked better in yesterday’s blurry Elle editorial. {Refinery29}
Diet Talk: Speaking of hot male fashion designers, Yigal Azrouël kept a journal of his eating habits for New York Magazine’s food blog. He cooks Moroccan food for six, makes omelets and English muffins in the morning, and whips up papaya smoothies on demand. {Vulture}
Loved: Giles presented his pre-fall collection in Florence yesterday underneath paper clip hats and above crunched plates. We’re thrilled colored hair isn’t going anywhere. {LOVE}
If yesterday’s blurry Gaultier for Target image left you unsatisfied, here’s the complete Zac Posen for Target lookbook.
The collection’s 100% Zac, made for a woman who likes to dress up, but might not have a red carpet to walk every other week.
It’s mostly dresses, highlights include a sleeveless floral mini with a massive side bow ($74), a well-cut purple polka-dot number with thick seams ($39), and the long printed gown at left ($69).
Swimsuits come in gold lame ($40) and tie dye (so do tees), skirts are basic black in flouncy cuts ($40) and Zac’s even included a slim black suit ($90).
You’ll have to wait until April 25th to buy it, but click through to see the whole collection.
And So It Goes: Pitti Uomo’s kicked off in Florence and no one shoots Italian men like Scott Schuman, at least off the street. {Sartorialist}
Down the Rabbit Hole: The first look at Stella’s Alice in Wonderland baubles. They manage to be both totally Alice and totally Stella at the same time. {Style}
Bananas: Rachel Zoe champions Eddie Borgo on today’s Zoe Report. She favors the rose gold Egyptian-like collar. We don’t favor the parallel universe selection. {ZoeReport}
Are Runways the New Rock Concerts? Belgian designer Dirk Bikkembergs is shilling tickets for his menswear show in Milan for $16 a pop. {WWD}
Stars & Stripes: Images of Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Target collection have leaked via an editorial. Gaultier’s surrounded by models in striped tees, khaki trenches and a few girly skirts. The collection, though blurry, looks fantastic. {Fashin via Refinery29}
Gaby Basora’s Tucker is set for Target’s next Go International collaboration, following in the footstep of Luella Bartley, Proenza Schouler and Erin Fetherston (to name a few).
The designer, who’s based in New York, started her own collection three years ago after a successful career in styling. Though she’s expanded her line to include dresses and rompers, Tucker’s best known for its colorful silk blouses. And even in spite of their popularity, depending on who’s asked, this might be the most unknown designer to team up with Target.
Target will roll out Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Designer Collaboration on March 7 and Zac Posen’s Go International soon after on April 25, which means Tucker’s collection should hit stores mid-summer.
According to an inside source, the collection won’t include accessories, but there will be swimwear and bottoms. As for the blouses that are sure to take center stage, fabric’s more a concern here than with any past collaboration - there’s little left without the silk.
We expect, however, it’ll be the perfect answer to mid-summer wardrobe needs.
It might be too late to start making gifts, but if you’ve already had your fill of Elf and Pictionary come December 26th, try this.
Modelinia asked Erica Domesek of PS I Made This and model Crystal Renn to swing by and show them, and now us, how to make DIY bows from left over ribbons and wrapping paper and anything else you can find. The end result’s some cross between Jenny Humphrey breaks out her sewing machine again, Rodarte for Target’s bow belts and Louis Vuitton’s ‘fro bows - in a good way.
Abbey Road: We were already obsessed with this Greg Kadel shoot from the behind-the-scenes video. The pictures are even better than we imagined. Most of them are topless, just so you know. {Fashion Gone Rogue.}
Ad it Up: Jenny Humphrey might have just landed herself a major campaign. It’s no Eleanor Waldorf, but we’re sure it made her IMG agents very happy this holiday season. No word yet on whether ripped tights are involved in the styling. {Nylon}
This and That: As if you needed a reminder, but Rodarte for Target launches on the 20th. VF paired up some collection Rodarte against the lookbook so that people can understand what’s going on, kind of. {Vanity Fair}
In Stam’s Stam: Seeing as models get access to just about every product on the planet, we really never tire of seeing what they actually choose to carry around The girl’s got a very nice little mix going on, we’d recommend paying attention to her picks. {Style}

At left is this morning’s cover of WWD.
In our sleepy haze we thought, “Wow, um, Rodarte’s really taking things in a different direction for pre-fall.”
In an ideal world, this is what Rodarte for Target would look like. It’s a simple shift shape bursting with texture, a cage-like shoulder, tulle peeking out from the bottom and a swirl or two, but with a wider variety of fall colors.
In reality, it’s Vera Wang Pre-Fall 2010 and we’ll settle for labeling it an homage to Rodarte Spring 09.
Style.com got their hands on this video that Tavi shot for the Mulleavys about their Rodarte for Target collection. Needless to say, we once again find ourselves fairly jealous of a 13 year-old.
In it she gets to preview the collection and chat about it with the likes of Amy Astley and Cecelia Dean. She mingles with Jason Schwartzman, Elijah Wood, and Kirsten Dunst at the S/S 10 show.
And she gets to travel to the gorgeous plains of North Dakota where Laura and Kate shot the ad campaign and talk about the collection and its inspirations (Bonnie & Clyde, Harold & Maude, and Rosemary’s Baby) atop bales of hay.
This so beats just about anything we ever came close to doing at 13. Also we’re certain no one ever called us a “a mix between J.D. Salinger, Dorothy Parker, and Cindy Sherman” which the Mulleavys do in the Q&A that follows the video. Sigh.
‘Tis the Season: I can’t say that I miss putting together gift guides like I used to do in my magazine days. They’re a serious undertaking to organize and shoot. But I still love looking at well-edited ones like this. I mean, rainbow Thomas Pink collar bones—what’s not to love. {The Moment}
Gems from Zahm: Any headline that reads “Sex is life. Professional pornography is just capitalism” is automatically going to draw us in—especially when it comes from the mouth of Purple’s Olivier Zahm. {Gawker}
Belle of the Ball: After a few quick pics the other day, Jane Aldridge has put up a bunch more from her trip to Paris for the Crillon Ball. Doesn’t it look like this may be the happiest day in her mother’s life, wedding and childbirth included? {Sea of Shoes}
Rumors Prove True: And no we’re not talking about Tiger Woods, though we are fairly obsessed with the whole scandale. Nope, it’s the Target and Liberty ones. The pairing is real and official and coming in March. {Vogue UK}
While we probably save hundreds of dollars due to its Manhattan absence, every time a Proenza or Rodarte collaboration rolls around, we practically cry. Or, in this case, the holidays.
So thankfully they’re popping up, not just in Manhattan, but San Francisco and D.C., too with the easiest holiday shopping strategy we’ve heard of yet; they’re calling it, “Target to Go.”
You walk up to the counter, choose your gifts, order by number and pick them up at the next counter, wrapped and ready to go. Oh, and did we mention Rodarte? They’ll be selling pieces from Kate and Laura’s Target collaboration more than a week before it hits stores.
So in some backward way, not having a Target actually turns out to be great. Details after the jump.
After their accessories news last week, we now get news that the Go International team at good old Target has picked another winner for their next collaboration: Zac Posen.
We actually can’t believe it’s taken this long to get Mr. Posen added to the list that includes the Mulleavys (we’re only a month away!), Tracy Feith, and Erin Fetherston among others.
So mark your calendars for April 25th because that’s when Zac’s collection will hit the shelves and the internet. He is obviously into branching out right now, not that we’re complaining. The Saks collection is coming soon and now the even more reasonably priced Target situation. Yay!
No details are available yet on the designs or the prices, but we’re pretty sure we won’t be disappointed on either front.
You’re about to be able to get your hands on some very cool and very affordable shoes and hats thanks to Target’s latest round of collaborations.
We are very excited to see what Eugenia Kim offers up in the form of headwear, as we’re always on the lookout for something new but seriously hate spending over $200 on it. The collection will hit stores and the web on April 18, just in time for us to pick out our signature summer look. Awesome. We’re hoping for an array of knits as well as some more structured pieces.
Also arriving in April will be a limited edition of Cynthia Vincent shoes. When I lived in Los Angeles, I was Cynthia’s publicist for a spell and so I am doubly excited to see this happen for her and her super talented shoe designer Charlotte Stone. Expect a range of heel heights, especially cute flats, one of her signatures.
The designer’s designed a dress, that’s right, just one dress, for Target’s Red Hot Shop. It’s gold brocade, sleeveless, with a sweetheart neck and available online. Maybe in stores? We delight in knowing Target has even the tiniest indie designers on their radar.
In other news, Teen Vogue has amazing stills from her SS10 video - she’s shot her brother, Jack Antonoff and Alia Shawkat, yeah Maeby Fünke, re-enacting the “Top That” rap scene from Teen Witch.
The Antonoff video isn’t done yet, but if you need help putting words to images, Teen Vogue’s posted the original scene which we guarantee will make your day.
While Target’s making brands like Hayden-Harnett and Rodarte household names, Net-a-Porter’s building a home for lesser known designers and showcasing their work for a crowd already in love with kooky fashion.
Last year they launched an exclusive Marios Schwab section (pre-Halston) and now they’ll host an exclusive holiday collection from Ashish Gupta.
The London-based designer’s carried on a long love affair with sequins and though his latest collection revolved around both a fantasy vacation and a love of Nike, he’s designed a more subdued collection for the online shop.
He tellsVogue UK that it’s “a range of beautiful easy to wear pieces in soft shimmer black and metallics…perfect for easy evening glamour.”
Add A Slash: As in model/actress. Next up is Agyness who’s shooting a short film with the guy who plays the ADA on Law & Order. Also we now have “Celebrity Skin” running through our heads, which is not a bad thing at all. {Page Six}
Is Adidas the New Target: They’ve had Jeremy Scott and Stella McCartney, but now they’re onto British brand PPQ. Here’s your first look at their stripe-y, Catwoman-y collection. {Nylon}
Rita Hayworth Gave Good Face: Lindsay Lohan does not. God love (or hate) the Daily Mail for pointing out what we also witnessed last night, some seriously weird expressions that did nothing but age the girl in a major way. {Daily Mail}
The rumor that Jean Paul Gaultier was next up for Target’s Designer Collaboration spread like wildfire just a month ago.
But now it’s true and everyone can rejoice and jump for joy like we did upon waking up this morning.
He’s the third designer after Alexander McQueen and Anna Sui to participate in this series, which shouldn’t be confused with Go! International (even though it’s much more international). Contributing to the series demands a muse, and Gaultier’s chosen the American woman, and America’s pop culture, as his.
We’ve developed a very particular cycle of excitement regarding designer collaborations. First, we’re excited to hear their names in an affordable sentence. Then we worry about how their runway brilliance will translate into prices ending with $.99. And then finally, we’re thrilled they’ve accepted the challenge and look forward to what they’ll make when stripped of financial freedom.
The best part is, we’ve done it so many times we skip straight to part three. Gaultier’s collection will be in Target stores from March 7th to April 11th. No word yet on Manhattan’s usual pop-up.
RUMOR OF THE DAY: Jean-Paul Gaultier is said to be next up in Target’s Designer Collaboration series. None of the parties would comment officially to WWD, but we say yes, please.
But this season, for some reason, lacked a certain spunk (and we don’t just mean the confusing empty boxes inside the gift bags). It had all the good models (though it missed Agyness), the brightly colored embroidery, the youthful influence, and a party soundtrack, but it was, as the person next to me said, “all over the place.”
Her backdrop featured circus tents and if my Twitter icon hadn’t suddenly disappeared off the face of my iPhone, I’d have tweeted three’s a trend. The circus was nowhere to be found in Sui’s clothes though, instead there were a handful of hippie references and school girl looks we’d guess we’re inspired by her Gossip Girl inspired Target collection - if that isn’t too confusing.
And yes, we know ideas get recycled from season to season and that Marc’s own collection screamed “Rei,” but I swear those metallic dresses were in Bleecker’s Marc by Marc window last spring.
We jumped for joy when Target announced their collaboration with Kate and Laura Mulleavy and we pouted all day when we found out they’d be curating Colette when we’re not in Paris; but today news is entirely different.
The sisters just signed to William Morris Endeavor Agency. Obscure Japanese horror films and not so obscure American horror movies have almost always figured into their inspiration, so we’re not surprised that they have other creative mediums in mind for the future.
William Morris also says WWD they’ll help the brand move into publishing.
