Fraulein von Unwerth

ellenvonunwerthfraulein_edited-1.jpgWe have been long trawling the street for a new trend — one that you can cannot simply ape by looking at a magazine. The studs, mega-heels and shoulders have all gotten a little, well, ho hum, as of late.

But finally that exciting feeling of a fashion rush came roaring back at last week’s launch of model cum photographer Ellen von Unwerth’s new book with Taschen, Fraulein, authored by the legendary Ingrid Sischy.

The book is not out until December, but we got a sneak preview last week at the Michael Hoppen Gallery, where a mob of well-wishers came by to congratulate the ever-smiling photographer.

Passion for Taschen

taschenbookswarehousesale.jpgI dream of a day when I can finally take the boxes upon boxes of my beloved books that sit in my parents’ attic and unpack them in what I imagine to be a gloriously large library inside my fantasy brownstone off lower 5th Avenue.

And in this library, there will definitely be many, many books from Taschen, one of our favorite publishing houses. We’re obviously partial to the fashion and photography lists. But really, we can’t pick just one genre. And the limited editions, like the Peter Beard one we’ve been obsessing over, are so ridiculously well-done.

Hence our utter excitement about the company’s warehouse sale which starts tomorrow (11am - 8pm) and continues on Saturday (11-8) and Sunday (12-8) at the Soho store at 107 Greene St. There are going to be literally thousands of books (new! vintage! limited editions! out of print!) on sale from 50-75% off.

We’re envisioning a major shipment heading to M&D’s in Indiana come Monday.

Taschen Warehouse Sale

taschen book icons.jpgTaschen, maker of visually amazing books that are way too expensive for most people, is having a warehouse sale at their Greene Street store next weekend.

We know we’re telling you a little early, but even with the books at 50 - 75% off, you might still have to skip a few lattes in order to get some of the better, more popular fashion tomes.

Hours: Friday, January 23rd and Saturday, January 24th: 11am - 8pm, and Sunday, January 25th: 12pm - 8pm.

Because we know all you’ll want to do by next weekend is read in bed with a hot toddy anyway, right?
