Proenza-envy: Kristen Stewart’s roaming the world with two heartthrobs and she’s wearing new Proenza. If we were sixteen we’d be green with jealousy over the former, but we’re positively devastated over the latter.{NYMag}
#saveluella: We wish we’d thought of this first. The Guardian’s Fashion Statement column’s composed an Ode to Luella. It says, “Luella, we will miss / The frills / The spills,” and more. {Guardian}
Shop Someone Else’s Closet: Nikki Laura, one of our favorite still-standing neighborhood boutiques, finally got online this week. She stocks Grey Ant and stingray clutches from Khirma Eliazov that we’re obsessed with. {NikkiLaura}
I Wanna Be A Super-Robot: Time’s released their list of the 50 Best Inventions of 2009; it includes a fashion robot. She’s 5’2” and 95 pounds, which sounds like Daphne Guinness’ proportions, not Lily’s.{Time}
For Serious: Selfridge’s is having a garage sale, except instead of old Easy Bake Ovens you can buy Gwyneth’s Balenciaga and Liz Hurley’s Helmut Lang. {StyleFile}
The weather has us in enough of a crap mood already without having to read news of more layoffs in our world all morning.
Condé Nast’s never-ending month of news we’d rather not hear seems to be drawing from to a close, but it’s not totally over yet. Just yesterday FWD reported that longtime W features director James Reginato had left the magazine with more soon to follow.
Teen Vogue lost a bunch of people on the business side (while editorial was spared) and Details had to let go both its executive editor and its fashion director, Michael Macko. We’ve heard from many over at 4 Times Square that a culture of fear has taken over, and we can certainly understand why. It’s all just a major bummer, even if it is necessary to keep the business going.

Thanks to the magic of television, I’ve seen Rachel Zoe die after Diane von Furstenberg told her “she’d become the woman she’d always wanted to be,” and watched Whitney Port stare blankly as the fashion icon dished out invaluable career and relationship advice. Now, thanks to Teen Vogue’s Fashion University, I’ve heard DVF for myself.
As the program’s keynote speaker, Diane walked out to so many flashbulbs that she had to tell her overly-eager audience to cut it out and listen. Here are some highlights of her lively, inspirational speech.
1. She takes pride in understanding women. Diane believes that clothes should be like close friends: “When you’re standing in front of the closet in the morning, and you feel like shit, you should go for the reliable one that makes you feel good.”
2. She always has a camera with her. Her close-ups of leaves, bark, or anything else she finds beautiful in nature can end up a pattern in one of her collections.

Got Her: Shopping at the Juicy Couture/Teen Vogue Fashion University Party.
Stalked Her: Because in a sea of over-accessorized youth her subtle mix of classic and punk caught our eye.
Shot Her: Because she took simple pieces and combined them perfectly. And the lacing on the back of her blazer is detailing perfection. Not to mention we’re suckers for Doc Martens.
She Said: “I like to dress in contradictions that mesh together.”
We said: The student becomes the teacher.

This past weekend, Teen Vogue hosted a Fashion University event for their readers who were eager to learn the ins and outs of the business.
Not only were they given the rare opportunity to visit the magazine’s editorial floor and famed fashion closet, but they also got the chance to sit down with designers like Richard Chai, Philip Crangi, and Thakoon Panichgul. In a discussion moderated by Amy Astley, Thakoon shared stories about his rise through the ranks of the industry and gave pointers to the many aspiring designers in the audience.
You may already know that his Fall 2005 presentation was the most buzzed-about of the season, or that his most famous customer is Michelle Obama. But here are some things you might not know about the designer. I definitely didn’t.

Shop Talk: If the credit card machine arrives in time, Philip Crangi’s first store just might open this weekend in the Meatpacking. Shopping for some new jewelry and lunching at Pastis sounds like a pretty perfect Saturday to us. {StyleFile}
Triangulations: When we first read about this Alex von Furstenberg/Ali Kay/Reggie Miller situation over the summer, we didn’t know quite what to think, other than random and huh? Now, it’s gotten even stranger. We can’t imagine DvF is pleased about this at all. {Page Six}
TV on TV: In reality television news, Teen Vogue might be making its way back to the small screen but in what capacity, we’re not sure. Ah, remember the good old Lisa Love days on The Hills? {Fashionologie via Jazzi McG}
Across the Pond: Much like soccer, Cheryl Cole has never really caught on here in the States. But boy do those Brits loooove her. Will she ever become a crossover hit? {Vogue UK}
Last night Teen Vogue celebrated their super cute handbook with a little cocktail party at the Rose Bar at the Gramercy Park Hotel.
Amy Astley and her crew were of course all there in the cozy confines, with Amy’s kids and their friends taking over the pool table. The rest of the crowd out to toast the book included Vera Wang, Jenna Lyons, Thakoon, Keegan Singh, Eddie Borgo, Henry Holland, and Chanel Iman. All in all a very lovely party.
As far as EICs go, Amy’s definitely regarded as one of the nicest in the business. And she’s certainly built upon the Vogue brand in a great way since the launch of TV. Thanks to the book, she’s doing a little mini-tour of speaking engagements. Next up is Cali. So if you live in LA, we highly recommend turning out to see her when she heads west. There’s a signing at Book Soup on Sunset at 4 pm on the 18th. FIDM folks can catch her on the 19th at 10 and 11:30. And that evening, she’ll be speaking at Otis at 7pm. It’s free, but space is limited so click here to reserve a spot.
Go. Listen. Learn. It just might give you a leg up at your next interview.
Pretty Babies: Chanel and Jourdan are on the new Teen Vogue cover, looking beyond adorable. Yay! And the mag put together some of their most fabulous runway moments. {Teen Vogue}
It’s Official: Renzo Rossi finally confirms the long-believed rumor that Martin Margiela is not designing for the Maison. Apparently he’s “here but not here” which sounds to have just the right amount of mystery. {Vogue UK}
Back in Plaid: These shoes mark the return of the Burberry plaid. Are you ready for it, or is it still too soon for you? {Nylon}
The Season of the Nail: We haven’t seen this much chatter about nails in quite a few seasons. But we like it, because what’s easier or more fun to change than your nails. Plus for all you West Coasters there’s a rundown of great mani/pedi places in LA, including one of my personal faves, Recess. {LA Times}

Keeping Score: Let the NYFW wrap-ups begin. First up, the Wall Street Journal’s scorecard. {WSJ}
Tweet, Tweet: Britt and I developed a pretty serious Twitter addiction over the past 10 days. We literally couldn’t stop ourselves and almost lost it when our phones died. She’s already in London, so you can keep up by following Fashionista_com. {Twitter}
Front Row Fabulous: I’ve been thinking about this outfit that Carine wore since I saw her walk into the tents that morning. Utter perfection. {WhoWhatWear}
Jak & Jil Meets Style: Tommy Ton is now shooting street style for Style.com. Yay! And Congrats! {Style}
McKinsey Watch 2009: The consultants have finished their reports at Condé and rumored info is starting to trickle out. Keith Kelly is reporting today that Allure, Teen Vogue, and Details have been spared, at least for now. They were thought to be in precarious spots. Dear Uncle Si, please don’t kill TV. We love it too much. {NY Post}
The only thing more daunting that Fashion Week is turning out to be Fashion’s Night Out.
We’ve probably received fifteen to twenty emails per day since July telling us what’s up, who’s coming, where’s happening Thursday night and after much deliberation we’ve come up with a game plan.
Given there are really only two of us, splitting up’s the only way to cover the most ground without exhausting ourselves before the week actually even begins (and without spending all of our money before Christopher Kane hits Topshop).
I’ll run home for dinner after work which strategically puts me on Bleecker Street to start. I’ll kick off the night with Teen Vogue’s Bleecker Street party then swing by Intermix to glimpse the Miller sisters (and to actually buy a couple of tank tops I’ll need for the week) before swinging around the corner to Rag & Bone on Christopher Street where Jessica Stam’ll be at the cash register and Guinness will flow.

In Vogue: We’re a sucker for epic young Hollywood portfolios in any magazine, but Teen Vogue’s is always styled best and has the most fashion - this time around that includes Alia Shawkat, maybe better known as Maeby Fünke, who happens to be co-hosting Rachel Antonoff’s SS10 presentation. {TeenVogue}
London Bound: Christopher Bailey talks to Hilary Alexander about what it means to show Burberry in London and how he may seem laid back, but is actually “very German” in his methods. {Telegraph}
Play Catch Up: Richard Nicoll tells Grazia about the calm before the Fashion Week storm. He doesn’t believe in guilty pleasures, just pleasure. As if we needed more reasons to adore him. {Grazia}

Teen Vogue needs another one.
Another intern that is. The two new hands will be put to work in the fashion and accessories department, specifically working with the fashion credits assistant.
Responsibilities include helping with samples returns and pick ups, organizing fashion week tickets, administrative work, helping with fashion credits, etc. Perks include probably going to a few shows in September.
You need to be available three or more FULL days a week and be a college student who is able to receive school credit for the internship (always at Conde Nast guys, always). Hard work, resilience, dedication, intelligence and a love for fashion are musts and of course it’s best if you have some fashion or magazine experience.
If that’s you, email your resume and availability to teenvoguefashioninternship@gmail.com!
Teen Vogue would like you to channel your Fashion’s Night Out energy into creative endeavors.
More specifically, they’re hosting a DIY contest and, well, we know how you feel about DIYs.
First, you’ll need to log onto FashionsNightOut.com to get your official t-shirt (the same one Lily Donaldson rocks in the campaign and that Anna will be signing in Queens). Then we suggest having your bedazzler ready. If you can’t quite find it in the back of your closet, be armed with some serious flare — we’re imagining rhinestones and ribbon and maybe even puff paint? We’d suggest going all out because we’re guessing this’ll be a fierce competition.
Why? The winner gets two tickets to a runway show and considering it’s Teen Vogue we’re guessing it’ll be a good one. That’s Associate Market Editor Mary Kate Steinmiller’s creation at left, can you beat it?
It sounds like Vogue’s landed high on McKinsey’s priority list.
Condé Nast brought in the consultants just a couple of weeks ago, with the promise that significant changes (other than firing every secretary in the building) wouldn’t be made for at least a couple of months.
But they’ve already prepared a focus group just for Vogue. Readers were asked to take a survey to gauge their qualifications and then a select few were chosen to participate in more written surveys as well as in person interviews and round table discussions about the magazine starting next week.
Meanwhile, in other Condé Nast news that has nothing to do with McKinsey, we hear Taylor Tomasi Hill, Teen Vogue’s Accessories Editor, is leaving the Sartorialist’s dream team for Nina Garcia at Marie Claire. And as of right now, Teen Vogue won’t be replacing Tomasi.
Looky-Loo: Little J landed her own cover. She’s looking exceptionally cute and age appropriate on the cover of Teen Vogue’s September issue. {TeenVogue}
Fort Lauderdale, Really? One of our favorite hairstylists, Ted Gibson, is opening a salon in the former Spring Break mecca. But he promises it’s cool now. {W}
Now That Makes More Sense: We were confused about the whole Balenciaga/Air Tahiti uniform situation when we first read about it. The Times sorts out the matter. Who knew there was such a licensee as Balenciaga Uniforms? {The Moment}
Gilt Grows: Come August 12th we’ll definitely be checking out the more affordable Gilt Fuse to see if the sales are anywhere as good as so many of those on their big sister site. {Slaves To Fashion}

Look What We Found: Vogue took a second to delve into their archives and came up with a spectacular look back at some of their favorite supers, not just Christy who we wrote about yesterday. If we had access to those archives, we’d never come up for air. {VogueDaily}
Say It Ain’t So: I’ve never wanted anything the way I want the LV bunny ears. H&M’s Terry Richardson shot, Sasha P starring campaign is no comparison, my friend. Though she does look cute, as usual. {BlackBook}
Pretty Paul: Jimmy Paul, hairstylist to the models you love in the magazines you love and on the runways you love, reflects on his days in drag and being Nan Goldin’s muse in honor of a current exhibition including her work. {TheMoment}

Got Her: At the Tommy Hilfiger/PAPER Magazine Re-Branding America party last night, on the stairs.
Stalked Her: Do you see her shiny jacket? Everyone was stalking her.
Shot Her: Because she was wearing a giant flower purse, a shiny jacket, the pink Marc dress we’ve wanted forever and cowboy boots and still looked relaxed and adorable.
She said: “I saw this purse in Teen Vogue once and totally tracked it down. It’s from some totally random website out of like Ohio or something and I’m obsessed.”
We said: Shine on flower girl.
