Life With Nicole Chavez!

nicole & kristen.jpgLast week, I spent a few days in LA soaking up the other side of the fashion industry, one that loves the art as much as we do, but revolves almost entirely around celebrities.

So I dove right in, starting with a celebrity stylist: Nicole Chavez. Never heard of her? Well, you probably love her work since she styles Rachel Bilson (who, let’s face it, is best known for her style), Scarlett Johansson and Kristen Bell. I’d spent time with my fair share of editorial stylists, but for a career that has the same name, it couldn’t be more different.

We spent the day pulling clothes for three events for Scarlett - Comic Con, the LA Shorts Film Festival and a Dolce & Gabbana in-store appearance - which means we ran from her loft to a designer’s house to Dolce’s showroom to Prada’s store stopping to pick up shoes on the way and unloading FedEx boxes at home. It was a never ending parade of pulling and editing and choosing and trying on and my peppering Nicole with a million questions.

So how’d she get started? What was it like working on The OC? Does she ever want to do editorial? Find out after the jump!

Mid-Day Snack

mischabartonontheoc.jpgOh No, Coop: Word out of LA is that Mischa Barton is being held at the hospital on a 5150. That’s a Britney-style psychiatric hold. Send in Ryan Atwood! {WWD}

Tonchi to Times Square? Stefano might just be leaving T for the 12th floor of the Conde building. Interesting, very interesting. {FWD}

ALT In NC: Andre heads south, discusses Ashford and Simpson, The Wiz, and Maya Angelou. Needless to say the pic is brills too. {Life With Andre}

Rachel Bilson Makes a Dress

Rachel Bilson face.jpgHere’s a fun fact to start the morning: Rachel Bilson is designing a dress with Brian Reyes.

She announces the collaboration in next month’s NYLON. the But don’t get too excited - the dress won’t be for sale.

The design is meant for Rachel’s best friend’s wedding. Somehow, Ms. Bilson has been called upon to design the bridesmaid’s dress, so the aisle can look as cute as possible while Ms. Bilson’s best friend marries OC and Gossip Girl mastermind Josh Schwartz.

Brian Reyes is a red carpet favorite of Bilson, so we’re sure the two will have no problem agreeing on the design.

We’re betting it’ll be short and lavender in a sort of collision of OC style and the Fall runways.

Maybe with a matching headband?

Are Cotillions the New Raves?

josh schwartz cotillions.jpgDoes anyone else think it’s funny that both The OC and Gossip Girl aired episodes centering around a Cotillion?

We realize both shows were created by the same guy, Josh Schwartz.

Even still, such a random plot coincidence (who goes to a Debutante ball outside of the South? Unless you’re like at the Crillion?) caught us off guard.

Not only that, but it was difficult to embrace the cotillion fashion - that seemed a lot like the “Masked Ball” fashion, but without the great makeup - woven throughout the episode. Who wants to see Blair Waldorf dressed up like the Bush twins?

But back to the Cotillion coincidence - surely there’s something else that can happen in a Josh Schwartz show?

Or maybe the next thing you know, Serena’s going to shoot Chuck in order to save Nate’s life, and that’s when we’ll know for sure that Gossip Girl may not be the best use of our time.

Hopefully it won’t happen.
