Teenage Wasteland: We would have paid so very much money to witness one Madonna’s early (as in childhood) performances of “Baba O’Riley”, complete with midriff top and body paint—so very SS10. {RollingStone}
Wannabe: So it’s not exactly hard-core fashion news, but we like to include all things that sort of involve a Beckham, which this does. There may be a Spice Girls musical in the works. To which we say, hell yes. And zigazig ha. {JustJared}
Chicest in All the Land: We definitely can’t argue with Inès de la Fressange being named the most chic woman in France. Oh, to live in a country where Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is at number five. Sigh. {Telegraph}

I have to admit, my fall/winter wardrobe is looking pretty drab. I’ve been trying to find a way to brighten up my monochrome closet, preferably with one or two pieces that really make a statement.
That said, over the last few weeks I’ve noticed an emerging trend that’s perfect for what I am searching for, though I find it a bit perplexing. Vivid Navajo and tribal prints seem to be popping up everywhere, but I can’t figure out which is the way to wear it best.
Opening Ceremony is carrying a selection of wool, Navajo print items in unexpected shapes that make them look fresh. I love how the mini-skirt is styled with simple black tights and boots, allowing the color to really pop.

Garance Doré posted this picture on her blog on Thursday, with the title, “Don’t Tell Me You Don’t See It!”
She’s referring to the new, blonder bits in her always gorgeous curly hair after undergoing a particular varnish treatment, but what you can’t say you don’t see is the giant diamond on her left-hand ring finger.
The next day, Scott Schuman posted this picture on The Sartorialist and called it “Garance Doré in Full Summer Beauty” — the ring’s still there, just tucked under her hand.
A few commenters on both sites have spotted the ring, but we’re still waiting for a proper announcement so that we can start imagining the most fashion-obsessed wedding ever - photographed by Tommy Ton maybe?
Denise Williamson’s been a part of New York’s fashion industry for almost twenty years.
She made it through FIT, worked in house at Calvin Klein, fooled around with showroom ideas, networked her way into one of the most successful PR and branding companies in the city and now runs the showroom, Williamson PR and Williamson Consulting.
Our discussion was meant to revolve around her day to day life, but instead it took a few philosophical turns into the state of the fashion industry and what she sees in the future. Of course, we also talk about her clients, including Trovata, Jen Kao, Kimberly Ovitz, Raf by Raf Simons and Madeleine Thompson, her kid and the fun parts of working so hard.

The Ultimate How To: We know this was yesterday, but it’s brilliant. So in case you missed it, go on. {Refinery29}
The Creep Factor: Donna Karan’s still looking to save a few dollars with virtually constructed ad campaigns in lieu of Kate Moss’ daily fees, but putting Toni Garrn’s head on Sasha P’s body is a bit much. {Fashionologie}
Ouchie: Modelinia’s built a slideshow of models falling including legendary moments like Naomi at Vivienne and Prada SS09. Not so well known, but infinitely worse? A model at Gharani Strok 06. {Modelinia}

And bloggers take one more step up the fashion food chain.
Holt Renfrew, the Canadian department store, will pay tribute to a handful of fashion’s most famous online personalities including The Sartorialist’s Scott Schuman, BryanBoy and Jak & Jil’s Tommy Ton in their new window displays.
Creative director John Gerhardt’s orchestrated the entire thing without any input from the bloggers themselves - just inspiration from their sites and their voice. So we’re guessing layered prep a la Band of Outsiders with a bright scarf for Scott (and a bike of course), an explosion of Balmain and Givenchy for Tommy and just something major for BryanBoy.
We can’t wait to see the windows come Friday (because someone will send us pictures, right?) and we probably would buy anything straight out of one of Scott or Tommy’s gorgeous images, but we can’t help but wish Gerhardt had actually enlisted the bloggers’ help with the project.

I was standing in line for Preen, when Kanye asked/had to ask Scott to shoot him and his entourage.
So they went outside and Scott shot them and then they went back in and exchanged numbers.
Thought you might like to know.
D
We witnessed a small exchange between Kanye and Scott outside of Band of Outsiders earlier today. Kanye strutting up to Scott, Scott not caring, then Kanye tapping Scott on the stomach like old friends. Still, no shot. For the record, Kanye was carrying a large camo duffel bag.
Today, the Sartorialist tells us something we already knew:
That he got a book deal.
And now, the details:
The tome comes out this September, just in time for a pre-Fashion Week launch party we’re sure, and it’ll consist of “500 pages of images with a little writing.”
Also, Penguin’s releasing the book in paperback, a special request from Scott so all his readers could afford a copy.
Aww.

In case you felt like studying those DKNY Jeans ads shot by Scott Schuman, here’s the first larger size one featuring Alana Zimmer, via Models.com.
It really does look like a Sartorialist shot, but, outlined with a DKNY Jeans border.
Though we would have put a bike in the background, just as a wink…
On a side note, does anyone else find it weird that a stylist was used? We think Scott would definitely be qualified in that department, and seeing as how everyone’s looking to cut back on costs, well…

Walking on Houston the other day, I noticed a change on the perennial Calvin Klein billboard: men. Good bye naked Eva Mendes, hello guys and girls in jeans.
Then last night on Bleecker, I spied a sparkly jacket and jeans in the window of Cynthia Rowley, for men.
Not to mention both Nicolas and Roland Mouret (re-)adding menswear to their repertoire.
And, Scott Schuman’s recent editorial in Fantastic Man features Chanel menswear.
All of this, coupled with the fact that my best friend (a girl) keep stealing my clothes, the preponderance of boyfriend jeans, and Band of Outsiders, Michael Bastian, and Thom Browne showing up in Vogue on women and men have me thinking that we’re having a manly moment.
Am I nuts, or does it seem like menswear is the new womenswear?

Want to know how to pose perfectly on a bicycle, wear this season’s Stella McCartney jumpsuit, or gaze indifferently like Carine?
Scott Schuman can help you out.
The Sartorialist is joining forces with a big publishing company (we’re hearing Harper Collins, but we’re also still drunk from last night…) to put out a giant coffee table tome of his greatest and coolest shots.
Sadly, we don’t think the Gap ad will make it, but maybe all those great Fashion Week shots of our former Fashionistas will!

Got Her: On Ave B, as on her way to the Beck / MGMT concert
Stalked Her: Actually, didn’t have to - a friend introduced us.
Shot Her: Her shoes, the cozy layering - but most of all, the fact that she’s wearing a jean jacket and we didn’t want to make fun of her. Bonus points for the adorable London accent, too.
She Says: “Hummm.. I love Mary-Kate, I love Burberry and Alexander Wang. I love the Sartorialist!”
We say: We would also just like to point out the watch - kind of fits the ‘97 vibe she has going - perfect!

We’ve taken to walking from show to show. Nothing in Paris starts more than an hour after the time on the invitation and everything’s relatively close - but our general lack of direction means we never know when we’ll arrive at our destination.
Which means we got to Ann Demeulemeester a bit early. We talked to Scott Schuman about how amazing the fall weather is, while standing in the rain admiring the women who actually wear all of Ann’s clothes.
We’ve never seen so many people wear head to toe looks from the designer whose show they’re attending as we have in Paris. Devoted fans turn out in droves for a glimpse of their favorite runways in outfits that answer the question my parents always ask when confronted with editorial looks, “Who actually wears this stuff?”
Maybe it’s the crazy Paris fashions talking, but we’d actually wear everything on Ann’s Spring runway. The fluffy, tied-up dresses will work on someone not-model sized, us, and those chained, rhinestone decorated minis manage to walk cooler than expected. Even the lace up shoes looked do-able.
Though not on our show-to-show treks, of course.

If you can spot a Scott Schuman photograph from across the room, and really like cats, we think we’ve found the perfect Monday morning distraction for you -
The Catorialist.
At left, the Deconstructed Coat.
Just a few posts earlier, a similar-looking cat was shot at Kitty Uomo.
Need we say more?
I actually sat down and read GQ cover to cover this weekend.
1) Because James Franco is on the cover and you know how I feel about who’s on the cover and
2) Because I actually love their editorial content.
But on my way there I started noticing the ads.
Something was off. For example, in the four page Gap campaign, only men are featured. I flipped from Hugh Dancy to Joseph Feinnes without an appearance from Clemence, Julia, or even Liv. It’d be one thing if Gap only put their girls in women’s magazines, but we get boys and girls - so why do the boys only get boys? Oh, and the Sartorialist is definitively missing, (but so is Sean Avery).
Then we have the Tod’s ads. Gwyneth Paltrow is their super hyped, no doubt super expensive face of Fall 08. But while one of the men in the GQ ad version bears a slight resemblance to Chris Martin if you squint and can imagine Chris Martin draping a sweater over his shoulders, Gwyneth is most certainly not present. Though we know from the background that both she and the men are sitting on the same yacht.
Thirdly, and perhaps best, is the Salvatore Ferragamo ad spread. In it, they’ve used the same Claudia Schiffer and the same background from the ads in women’s magazines, but remember that guy who wore tights? Well, in GQ, he gets to wear a proper suit. And Claudia doesn’t look pleased. But there are ballerinas in tutus running around him which adds the ballet element in a different way.
So the the only woman who can sell a product to men is Claudia Schiffer? And definitely not Gwyneth Paltrow? But you can use any hot guy to sell something to women?
Or maybe I should just stop memorizing magazines.

Dear Agyness, Mr. Sartorialist, Bill C. (if you too are headed to Europe),
We know you’ll be doing a lot of traveling in the coming months, well, September at least and into October, and we think it’d be way more fun and way less exhausting if all your important documents were stored in this fancy leather travel wallet.
It’ll fit your passport, your tickets, dollars, pounds and euros - of which you’ll need a lot. And it’s bright yellow, so toward the Paris end of things you’ll have something bright to keep you going.
I know you’re thinking $235 is a lot to spend on something a bit less than practical, but you’ll have it for the rest of your life - which we’re betting will include a lot of airplane rides. And the nice people at Courier du Coeur even embroidered a little bicycle on it, just for you, so you’ll never feel too far from home.
Because traveling with your own bike would really slow you down.
xoxo
