E-Mail My Heart

barneys catalog cover.jpgThis morning, among emails from people we actually know, our inbox was filled with notes from Abercrombie & Fitch, Barneys, Bergdorf, Michael Kors, Neiman Marcus, Tiffany & Co., and Pottery Barn - and it’s only 9:00.

Is it just us, or do you delete these immediately and move on? We could just click ‘unsubscribe’ at the bottom of each one, but we let them keep coming with the hope of learning something earth-shattering.

We do occasionally find a golden nugget of goodness in the subject line - free shipping on whatever or amazing new shoes with our name on them. But usually it’s things that we couldn’t care less about like post-collegiate Abercrombie sweatshirts or floral frilly bikinis from Urban Outfitters - all because we bought a t-shirt from them five years ago.

So to those responsible for mass emailing, may we suggest asking our product preferences? Something as simple as are you a boy or a girl? And perhaps a comments section in which we can give a thumbs up or down?

We understand the rationale behind bombarding us with information to see what sticks, but it’s getting ridiculous. We read Net-a-Porter’s Wednesday emails religiously, and look forward to Colette’s monthly newsletters because their content’s worth reading.

If you really need to reach us everyday, why don’t you start a blog?

tiff.jpgFirst, Swarovski steals the Tiffany blue color for their ads.

Now, Montblanc has a new charm bracelet that’s super suspicious because it looks like our high school graduation present:

The Tiffany charm with the giant heart on it!

We know Tiffany wasn’t the first to put a giant heart on a bracelet, but the iconography is undeniable, and anyway:

The bracelet wasn’t that cute in 1999 / 2001 / 2003 / whenever you graduated, and the Montblanc version?

Well, it’s even worse, isn’t it…

She’s Big in Japan

Kate LanphearNew York fashion insiders have a reliable stable of crushes: Alber Elbaz, the brilliant Lanvin designer who resembles a talking teddy bear; Kate Bosworth, the slightly too-thin but always charming actress (whom Vogue’s Sally Singer calls a “muse”), and Kate Lanphear, the spunky, punky Senior Fashion Editor at Elle, whose winning tough-girl outfits are the envy of pretty much everyone.

But it turns out the American fashion pack aren’t the only ones with a crush –

Kate’s got a following in Japan, too.

“Tiffany’s is flying her out to Tokyo for an autograph session,” reports a fellow editor. “She’s as popular as Ashley Olsen out there.”

Ooooh, Kate’s cooler than the Olsen’s - there’s something we already kinda knew.

One more thing: Perhaps Kate will have her own jewelry collection eventually?

Swarovski Gets the Blues

Swarovski Display One of our most hotly debated trivia questions was last year, when we asked which fashion company had actually patented a color: Tiffany Blue.

The shade is synonymous with Park Avenue engagements, prep school graduations, Audrey Hepburn yearnings, and of course, “I’m sorry I cheated on you with the nanny and Page Six found out before you did.”

But now it seems the color is getting hijacked by someone else:

Swarovski.

The brand most famous for sponsoring emerging designers, and decking Naomi Campbell in a pair of crystal headphones, has taken a turn from it’s deep violet ads starring Gemma Ward and Jessica Stam, and shifted instead to something…

Well, something that looks a lot like Tiffany blue.

Is this just the best shade to show off a sparkle? Or is Swarovski trying to imply something else?
