Future’s Too Bright: Alexander Wang’s teamed up with Linda Farrow for super awesome SS10 sunglasses. Nylon snapped a picture at MAGIC in Vegas. {Nylon}
Hilfiger’s New Man: Word is Peter Som might be hired on as a consultant at Tommy Hilfiger. He wouldn’t be our first guess, but he makes a helluva a lot more sense than Miguel Adrover who was apparently on the short list. {WWD}
Inspiring Movements: Jezebel explains why we need Lady Gaga. We seriously can’t wait to see this art-installion like VMA performance with fashion that is a “representation of the most stoic and memorable martyrs of fame in history.” Bring it, G. {Jezebel}
This September doesn’t just mean Fashion Week, fall and my 25th birthday (yikes!), it also means the first ever Vogue Night Out.
Mayor Bloomberg and Anna Wintour announced the initiative in May, hoping for a revitalization of fashion and retail in New York City. The event’s taken on international proportions, with counterparts in London and Paris on the night of September 10th.
The best part of the night’s shaping up to be something other than endless promotional tees and charitable tie-ins: the presence of the designers themselves.
Today, Vogue UK lets slip that Alexander Wang will be on hand at Barneys teaching customers how to walk a runway which means we’re left wondering how the the other participating designers will feature. If it’s cold enough, can Vera Wang teach ice skating at Rock Center? We’d like Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren conducting traffic at 57th and 5th and Donna Karan drawing horse carriages from Bergdorf to Saks.
Is that too much to ask?
Theodora Richards has left IMG to join her sister Alexandra on Wilhelmina’s roster.
IMG plays home to all the rock star kids: Lou Doillon, Julia Roitfeld, Liv Tyler, Elettra Rossellini, Daisy Lowe (yes, we use the term rock star liberally), but the gorgeous blond Richards sisters, daughters of Rolling Stone Keith and model Patti Hansen, are now holding down the Wilhelmina fort.
Theo’s starred in ads for Tommy Hilfiger and Roberto Cavalli for H&M, but maybe, with a package deal for the two sisters, they’ll get to join their dad in the realm of luxury advertising.
A family portrait for LV? Sounds do-able.
Another Tuesday, another round of fashion parties. Not that we’re complaining. A few of the highlights:
- Drinking Budweiser (at the Tommy Hilfiger/Paper Magazine fete to celebrate the mag’s new Rebranding America issue) and listening to John Mellencamp made us feel very American, in a good way, which we suppose was exactly the point. But where were the pigs in a blanket?
-Random guest side note: Matthew Modine, our long-ago crush from Vision Quest and Gross Anatomy, looks way older than we’d like to remember him.

Lindsay, 24, works at a digital interactive agency
Got Her: At the Tommy Hilfiger/PAPER Magazine Re-Branding America party last night, on the stairs.
Stalked Her: Do you see her shiny jacket? Everyone was stalking her.
Shot Her: Because she was wearing a giant flower purse, a shiny jacket, the pink Marc dress we’ve wanted forever and cowboy boots and still looked relaxed and adorable.
She said: “I saw this purse in Teen Vogue once and totally tracked it down. It’s from some totally random website out of like Ohio or something and I’m obsessed.”
We said: Shine on flower girl.
If you’re in the mood to shop this weekend, read on.
Start out at Tommy Hilfiger on West Broadway at Broome. Pick up some jeans to make into shorts and a new bathing suit maybe because the first five customers to spend $500 get a free Apple iTouch. The next twenty-five to spend $300 get an iPod Nano, the next twenty-five to spend $150 get a shuffle and the next fifty to spend $100 get $15 to the iTunes store
Then head to the Anya Hindmarch store, or online, to get one of her new seasonal totes for under $100. Swing by IHeart on Mott because they’re closing (sad) and having a major farewell sale. Then on Sunday make your way to Bergdorf for their Re-invent Shopping lunch. Becki Newton from Ugly Betty will be there and if you bring in something from your closet a Lucky stylist will help you re-work it — details here.
Or, if you’d rather get started today, you can hang out with Vanessa (Jessica Szhor), Amy Astley and Vivienne Tam at the Teen Vogue concept store in the Short Hills mall at 5pm. Consider it part of the Save the Malls Effort - and you can win a free computer.
And lastly, if you’re in LA, head to Barneys with your old t-shirts so that Loomstate’s on-hand artists can customize them into something amazing.
Otherwise, we’ll see you at the beach.
Marky Ramone, Music, Parties, Rock Scene, The Ramones, Tommy Hilfiger
Fact: Tommy Hilfiger’s brother, Andy, used to be in a band with former Ramones drummer, Marky Ramone.
Fact: Hence, Tommy and Marky have known each other for 23 years.
New Fact? Marky and Tommy are launching a clothing line together, Rock Scene, which will consist of pants, leather jackets, and tees with images from the old CBGB club on them.
Not only does this explain Marky’s seemingly inexplicable gig as DJ at a Tommy party a year ago, but it kind of makes all that moaning and groaning over John Varvatos taking up the old CBGB space - where the Ramones played their first shows at the beginning of their legendary career - with his store seem a little overdone (or warranted? Depends on who you’re talking to…)

Ally Hilfiger, 23, Designer Daughter/Artist/Producer/Star
Got Her: At the Tommy (Dad) Hilfiger Men’s Presentation.
Stalked Her: Because we wanted to know if she was really shorter than Natalie.
Shot Her: Because black and white and fringed all over is our idea of a good time.
She Says: “The bracelet is an ancient Indian tradition, and every time it gets cut or falls off I retie it 6 times and say a prayer each time. It provides protection against everything.”
We Say: “Tie her up, tie her down, we love her either way.”

We recently witnessed a friend buy a bottle of Axe body spray. We were a little surprised at his choice, since he’s not in high school or junior high.
He didn’t really get it when after spraying a bit of his Tsunami, we said, “This smells like a sixteen year-old boy!” Clearly, no one has ever told him that there is such a thing as smelling your age. (We now have “Terre d’Hermes” next to his name on our Christmas list.)
This reminded us of our own junior high days, when everybody wore Heaven from the Gap, and those who didn’t, doused themselves in Calgon body sprays from Bell’s Pharmacy downtown. But after high school, college and life, one typically leaves those scents behind and moves on to more subtle, sophisticated varieties. In short, you grow out of scents to fragrances.
To this day, the smell of anything fruity, vanilla-y or Herbal Essences-y makes us think of first period Geometry, and the smell of Chanel No. 5 immediately brings to mind our grandmother.
So what about you? Are you a college age girl wearing Frédéric Malle’s Carnal Flower (perhaps the most intoxicating, elegant aroma we have ever smelled)? Or an older woman, perhaps even mother, harboring Tommy Girl on your dresser?
One of this fall’s biggest trends is also one of the easiest to wear:
The school blazer.
Balenciaga’s has gotten the most attention but if something like tuition is preventing you from dropping 2 grand on a jacket, you might like these other options.
J.Crew is selling its double-faced wool Lexington jacket for $250…
Topshop’s striped version is going for £55.00…
And Tommy Hilfiger’s take on the nautical blazer — worn by cover girl Taylor Warren in this month’s NYLON — is on sale for $139.99!
At that price, you’ll still have money left over for textbooks.

IMG’s show package is up online, and it includes some of our favorite VIPs:
There’s Freja, Jessica Stam, and Tanya D. all looking gorgeous.
There’s also some incredible new “talent” - and by “talent,” we mean “gene pools” - and our hearts actually stopped when we saw Heidi Mount, a blonde who looks like Tommy Hilfiger built her specifically. And though The Casting Director picked some gorgeous girls for ELLE, we also wouldn’t discount IMG’s Hannah Davis, the beachy beauty who booked some Ralph Lauren ads last year, and now is here to stay.
Meanwhile, Gemma is not in the New York package, and neither is Lily Cole.
BUT.
We hear from a casting assistant that Lily is being quietly allowed as an option for a few select designers.
We hope it’s true -
We love Lily!
