Dree’s V Outtakes

drees outtakes.jpgWe will never tire of watching outtakes from editorial photo shoots:

1. We love models.

2. We’re fascinated by what looks like their innate ability to immediately collapse into the most dramatic, most draped positions ever.

3. We always wonder how they choose the music. Is it based on the vibe of the shoot? If so, this must have been a very creepy experience for everyone involved.

4. We never tire of seeing it all pre-airbrush.

Quote of the Day

“Ernest is not someone I’m constantly thinking about. In fact, I might like his friend F. Scott Fitzgerald a little bit more.” - Dree Hemingway in the new V, and yet it wasn’t Dree Crisman who landed that Givenchy runway.
Internships

V Needs a Web Intern!

ladygagaatVparty.jpgEveryone knows V threw one of the sickest parties of the week after the MJ show, complete with Gaga at a piano. They’re also looking for a new intern for the vmagazine.com and vman.com, which if you’re lucky just might give you a leg up getting into their next big bash.

You don’t need to be getting college credit but you do need to be seriously fashion knowledgeable, incredibly web savvy, and ready, willing and able to commit to three to five days a week. Skill sets also necessary: Photoshop, CSS, HTML, and Flash. If you know After Effects, you’ll earn some major bonus points.

Gaga Goes to the Box

lady gaga goes to the box.jpgDear Lady Gaga, will you please fill us in on your Fashion Week stamina secrets?

Over a month ago we reported the popstar was throwing a major after party with Marc Jacobs and V Magazine, on top of her VMA duties.

But today comes news of a third performance, at The Box of course, in honor of the new Givenchy fragrance, Play.

It’ll be hosted by Out Magazine and Patrick Duffy, featuring an acoustic set of her greatest hits. WWD says The Box is even bringing in a grand piano for the occasion.

And you thought the Marc party would be the hardest thing to crash this week.

Tyra’s Delayed Fashion Forward Thinking

the alexander wang dress that wont die.jpgRemember this Alexander Wang dress?

Its evolution started with a runway debut on Aline Weber last September, hopped right to a V Magazine party that same week on Anja Rubik, and quickly became the new Prada lace, popping up in every single editorial until even Topshop attempted to rip it off, disastrously, and everyone who’d bought it finally tucked the piece away into the back of their closet.

But we hear Tyra Banks rocks it on the season premiere of America’s Next Top Model.

What does this mean? Well, we’ll finally see it on a womanly body, which could give those squiggles a whole new dimension. But more importantly, it means Tyra might start incorporating relevant fashion into the show (though yes, a year behind). Maybe she can put the models in Prada’s epic SS09 sandals in the second episode and see if they fare any better than the originals?

B for Beauty

Maybelline May, June, July

maybelline ny v mag contest video.jpgMaybelline’s made a calendar.

The girls wear clothes in this one, but they also wear some spectacularly elaborate makeup. V Magazine’s partnered with the make-up brand—which, by the way, really is pulling out all the fashion forward stops—for a contest in which you can win a copy of the calendar and a year’s supply of V (courtesy of Lafayette? Ok, too much True Blood.)

Anyway, in this behind-the-scenes video you can watch Erin Wasson look particularly cat-like, Julia Stegner illustrate walls and Kemp Muhl straddle a tube of mascara. Punches of neon give the video, and calendar, a super 80s vibe. Is that what we’ll see on the runways?

Fashion Week

Marc! & Gaga! & V!

lady gaga and marc and v to fashion week.jpgWe took a moment to wonder what would happen if Lady Gaga did in fact descend upon New York Fashion Week.

What would she wear? Whose shows would she attend? Would the creative universe implode?

Probably not, though rumor has it she’s throwing a party with Marc Jacobs and V Magazine which is maybe the greatest thing to happen to the fashion industry in a very long time. As much as we’ll love to see what she rocks front row, we can’t even fathom what she’ll wear to the party of the week.

And since we’re still waiting on the official Fashion Week calendar, we’ll try to be content with brainstorming party themes and praying for the rain to stop.

Cameron Diaz, Tough Girl

V60_CAMERON_WITHOUT_TEXT_5.jpgWe love when celebrities put themselves in the hands of a talented photo/styling/hair/makeup crew and let them do what they do best.

It unfortunately doesn’t happen as often as it should, usually thanks to a high-powered, but incredibly meddling, publicist.

We understand their role in preserving said celeb’s image. But we’ve been on way too many shoots where an awesome photo never got taken because someone didn’t think it was the right “message”

This makes us appreciate V’s cover story (shot by Mert & Marcus) with Cameron Diaz all the more. Cameron’s sunny California surfer girl image is great. But thank god she can still have fun and mix it up a bit too.

Edgy, early Madonna-inspired Cameron is a very good thing indeed.

Nicola Formichetti Needs Interns

nicola formichettis gisele v cover.jpgSorry dudes.

Keegan doesn’t need an assistant - he loves George - but Nicola Formichetti needs a handful of interns.

Lots of them. Specifically, “girls and gays who live in New York City,” as in they know their way around the city, the subway, magazines, designers, photographers, models, clothes. You must have previous fashion/styling/editorial/PR experience.

You’ll assist on photo shoots, run errands and steam clothes with enthusiasm and a smile on your face. They need hard working, dedicated, passionate people to start now. It’s not paid and if you can’t do full time they’d like you to be on-call. Nicola works for Dazed and Confused, V Magazine, V-Man, Vogue, Bazaar, Uniqlo, Levis, Max Mara etc.

But if you didn’t know that, this probably isn’t the one for you. You can email his assistant at emilyeisen@gmail.com.

If Coco and Lily Had a Baby...

addison gill looks like small.jpgThe winner of the Supreme / V Magazine model was just named, and it’s 16-year old Addison Gill from Canada.

But before we discuss her inevitable rise to catwalk fame (just wait for February), can we discuss her uncanny resemblance to the would-be love child of Coco and Lily D?

No really - those eyes (Coco), that facial structure (Lily).

It’s truly unbelievable.

Nick Knight Shows Us His Studio

Lily on nicks set.jpgNick Knight’s shoot with Lily and Jourdan may have just hit Vogue UK’s site, but you can check out his shoot with Lily for V happening right this second on his site, ShowStudio.

Nick’s streaming live video of every detail of the shoot, including video clips separated by look.

It’s all the fun of a shoot without any of the lifting.

Right now? Lunch.

Next? Well, we’re hoping it includes that McQueen jacket..

V Man Going Monthly?

v man cover black eyes.jpgDoes anyone else think it’s weird / funny that the magazine publishing industry’s expanding like it’s 1929?

Not only is Conde Nast sinking untold sums into Katie Grand’s new brain child, but now we’re hearing that the currently bi-annual V Man is going monthly (and Jazzi just pointed out that regular V is now just $10/year.)

Is it simply that nobody cares about the recession? Or is it that V Man figures it’s upmarket enough that people still want more from them? Or is it because of the economy, like the way alcohol and cigarette consumption goes up during times of great stress (we, too, really need magazine pages to turn when we worry about stuff like the world.)

We don’t know, but we do know more V Man means more boys + fashion, so bring it on.

Streetwalker: Let’s Fly Away

alex streetwalker small.jpgMegan, native Australian, Fashion Stylist

Got Her: Chatting with a friend on Mulberry St. in front of Ruby’s (how Aussie appropriate)

Stalked Her: Because she was swimming in layers…in the best way possible.

Shot her: Because the dress is a great combo of hippie meets space age, like if Margiela and Erin Fetherston had a baby. Plus, we really love her subtle accessories and sleek bun to balance it out.

She Says: “I had a job interview this morning.”

We Say: Isn’t V in this neighborhood?

Models

Back to Reality

holly.jpgBecause we watch too much television, we have been waiting for this:

The arrival of Holly Kiser on New York Model Management’s website.

You may remember Holly from her reign on Make Me a Supermodel, the super-boring Bravo reality show that we managed to watch half-drunk and mostly exhausted as we collapsed from nights of parties.

Holly managed to beat out four gorgeous boys - and the votes of thousands of gay guys - to win the title. Can her early success replicate that of Amanda Laine, the winner of the V a Supermodel contest that ran on the internet last year - who went on to open Lanvin - or Alice Burdeau, the winner of Australia’s Next Top Model who booked Proenza and Louis Vuitton?

It’s still too soon to tell, especially since NYMM has a really strong group of girls, but nobody who’s massively famous - yet.

It’s also worth noting Holly isn’t the first reality contestant the agency’s taken on - they’ve also got “Corinne” Hatch - whom you may remember as actually being Britt from America’s Next Top Model.

Kate, Poetess

Remember back when Nick Knight requested flower donations for his December shoot with Kate for V?

Well the shoot is shot, photoshopped and can be bought on stands - but of course Mr. Knight also has a blog to which he must attend, and this time around, he used the shoot’s extra bits to make a little video of Kate. Speaking.

Actually, reciting.

Click to listen to Kate’s ghost-like rendering of Roddy Lumsden’s poem “Bloom.”

Try not to get the chills.

The Comics Are Coming…

pop print.jpgMonths after the Costume Institute announces it’s big ball theme - Comic Book Chic - and already we’re seeing it reverberate in the mass market.

To the left is an upcoming print from Puma; to the right is a hoodie from Topshop. They’re almost identical, and they’re not the only Pop prints you’ll see this Spring and Summer.

This is on top of the runway masks at Marc, Luella, and Alexander McQueen, and past the editorials in Bazaar and V that literally turn comic books into fashion spreads.

And if Vogue isn’t sponsoring a Lichtenstein exhibit in the next year, then our Magic 8 Ball is totally, totally busted.
