An Appointment With Eye Candy

vmanmodelcontestlivestream.jpgWhat’s better on a Friday morning than a little live male model action? Not much in our book.

If you concur, we suggest you make a little note in your Outlook calendar to surf over to SHOWStudio tomorrow at 11 am and watch a shoot of VMan’s Model Search. Live streaming is the thing, you know.

We don’t yet have an inside track on the theme of the Nick Knight/Simon Fox shoot yet, but we’re pretty sure it will be hot. I mean, the mag isn’t going to award a cover and Ford contract to just anybody.

And watching male models work it for the camera sounds like a real morning mood-enhancer to us.

Internships

V Needs a Web Intern!

ladygagaatVparty.jpgEveryone knows V threw one of the sickest parties of the week after the MJ show, complete with Gaga at a piano. They’re also looking for a new intern for the vmagazine.com and vman.com, which if you’re lucky just might give you a leg up getting into their next big bash.

You don’t need to be getting college credit but you do need to be seriously fashion knowledgeable, incredibly web savvy, and ready, willing and able to commit to three to five days a week. Skill sets also necessary: Photoshop, CSS, HTML, and Flash. If you know After Effects, you’ll earn some major bonus points.

Nicola Formichetti Needs Interns

nicola formichettis gisele v cover.jpgSorry dudes.

Keegan doesn’t need an assistant - he loves George - but Nicola Formichetti needs a handful of interns.

Lots of them. Specifically, “girls and gays who live in New York City,” as in they know their way around the city, the subway, magazines, designers, photographers, models, clothes. You must have previous fashion/styling/editorial/PR experience.

You’ll assist on photo shoots, run errands and steam clothes with enthusiasm and a smile on your face. They need hard working, dedicated, passionate people to start now. It’s not paid and if you can’t do full time they’d like you to be on-call. Nicola works for Dazed and Confused, V Magazine, V-Man, Vogue, Bazaar, Uniqlo, Levis, Max Mara etc.

But if you didn’t know that, this probably isn’t the one for you. You can email his assistant at emilyeisen@gmail.com.

V Man Knows What the People Want

v man ice skating party.jpgFact: Even though people think Fashion Week parties sound “fabulous” they almost always aren’t.

So we’re very pleased that V Man and Ford are throwing a party we don’t think anybody’s going to miss, to celebrate their upcoming Spring issue and this year’s dual winners of their annual model search contest, CJ Hancock and Jake Madden (click).

The event will be held at the Chelsea Piers’ Sky Rink tomorrow night, so just picture everybody you know drinking and ice skating to Diskokaine, and you can understand why we put this one in bold on our schedule.

Also, there was a last minute event addition: An 11pm performance by an actual figure skater, Johnny Weir.

We think Fashion Week just froze over.

“Women are Pretty. Men are Not.”

david gandy on vman cover.jpgWith the run up to LFW, I am constantly sat on the tube next to male models on their way to castings (really great for the ego on an early morning) and with so many male shapes passing through the underground, I have a front row seat to all the faces in VMan and Dazed.

The other day, I saw David Gandy, who’s probably the most famous male model of the moment (you will recognize him from the D&G Light Blue commercial and does the 50-foot billboard in Times Square ring any bells?). Mario Testino is obsessed, Dolce & Gabbana created a calendar of him last year, and most women and gay men are enthralled.

So I managed to sneak a little chat with him about his job. His thoughts: “There has never really been a male “supermodel” because it is an industry dominated by women. Modeling is predominately seen as a woman’s job, and they get a lot of acclaim and adulation from being a model. Men don’t.”

He also told me how he felt about the Times Square billboards in his very shy manner, “Why would anybody want to look at my body?” and when I asked him if he had a hard time being pretty, he simply replied, “Pretty? How can a man be pretty? Flowers and women are pretty. Men are not”.

Take from that what you will.

Hedi Slimane’s New Crush

Hayes Peebles We often wrestle with the question of underage babes in fashion, but usually, the models in question are girls like Chanel Iman, 17, Karlie Kloss, 16, and Ali Stephens, 16.

Now we’re fixated on a new rising model, but the difference is, he’s a boy.

The cutie in question is Hayes Peebles, a 16-year-old singer / songwriter from upstate New York who’s already been photographed by David Bailey for Teen Vogue.

Peebles was recently shot by Hedi Slimane, with photos of his muscular bare back - and his plastic Star Wars and Batman toys - posted on Hedi’s website.

We suspect they’re part of a bigger series for V Man magazine, but that’s just a well-placed hunch based on where we got the tipoff about the pictures.

Obviously, the bigger discussion about this is - well, should there be a bigger discussion?

Let Hedi Objectify You!

By Hedi Slimane Want to be Hedi Slimane’s next piece of meat?

Go to V Magazine’s website.

They may have lost their Editor-in-Chief to Interview, but they’ve gained a sequel to their wildly successful modeling contest, V A Model. Their first winner, Amanda Laine, got a shoot with Mario Testino, a contract with Supreme, and the opening slots at McQueen and Miu Miu (what?!). She also closed Louis Vuitton (double what?!).

Now V opens their contest to boys. If you win, you’ll score the cover of V Man (which recently had Brad Pitt as its star), plus a photo shoot with Hedi Slimane and a contract with Ford Models.

Clearly, these stakes are huge, so if you think you look like Ashton Kutcher in his pre-Demi days, zoom on over and good luck!
