After the lovely afternoon we spent on Governors Island on Saturday, we’ve officially become polo fans. And also please sign us up for the Nacho Figueras fan club. We knew his face was dreamy from all those Ralph Lauren fragrance ads. Let us just say the real thing is unbelievably better.

You know how excited we were to don our hats and watch Prince Harry play.

And by the way, thanks to all of you who recommended The Hat Shop on Thompson. How I’ve missed popping in there over the years is beyond me but I found the perfect Chapeau Chateau fedora that worked for the match and will now become one of my summer staples.

The people watching at the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Classic was a dream. The best dressed of the afternoon was certainly Chloe Sevigny in Chloe. And the cutest couple: Marc and Lorenzo, who was wearing checked shorts. (Madonna, Jesus Luz, and little David Banda joined them in the VIP tent later on. Oh, to have been at that table!)

We find ourselves sitting here pondering: what would Vivian do? Yes, that would be the Vivian played by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.

You see, we’ve now actually been invited to the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic which we already imagined like a scene out of the the movie.

You may also remember us swooning over Prince Harry’s attendance. We weren’t sure we’d be able to go, but now that we are, we’re flummoxed over hat choices.

While we may not share a profession with the fictional Viv, much like her, we don’t oft have occasion (or inclination) to wear the type of hat that feels proper for an afternoon of polo on Governor’s Island.

We also don’t have Edward’s credit card to max out.

Plus, we’ve always found that hats are one of the hardest things to shop for. Any shop suggestions that carry options that might also work for beach weekends? Oh, and we’re also in the market for something for our everyday city-centric selves, too.

We’re more than a little excited that a certain dashing young prince named Harry is coming to New York to play in the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic.

The whole affair sounds like a very Pretty Woman-esque afternoon at the polo grounds on Governors Island—hats for the ladies and summer suits for the gents. And all the proceeds are going to the American Friends of Sentebale, one of Harry’s charities. For more info and tickets click here.

In honor of the big to-do, Veuve is giving away one of their Traveler Sets and a blanket, normally reserved for the VIPs at the event and they thought you might be interested because really, even if champagne is to fashion as water is to Earth, one can never have too much.
