Fashion Is Fun

Acne Hearts The Man Show

Don’t ask us how, but Stockholm-based label Acne has been experimenting with video, which has resulted in the work at left: Boys bouncing on a trampoline. In their undies.

Acne says it’s “creative” and a “film installation” by young British film maker Richard Brandon Cox “inspired by” the Spring/Summer 09 underwear collection.

We say: Does this remind anyone else of that horrible show from years ago on Comedy Central, The Man Show, which always ended with a series of girls jumping on trampolines? (Except much better now, for the obvious reasons.)

Art or comedy - you decide.

Video Killed the Sale Button

netaporter and their video.jpgIf you frequent Net-a-Porter’s “Newest Reductions” page as much as we do, then you might have noticed that their entire sale section recently disappeared (we’re assuming it’s been shipped over to the OutNet, but we’ll see).

In its place? A new section dedicated to video content, including re-runs of the Spring 09 shows and commentary from Net-a-Porter’s editors on how to wear the clothes, trends, and interviews with featured designers.

So far, we’re considering this as an alternative to lunchtimes spent on YouTube.

Also on its way is Net-a-Porter’s NOTES, their print mini-magazine that’s been on a hiatus for a few seasons. Look for its revival, starting with Spring 09, in the post soon.

Conde Wants More Video

glamour cover with miss drew barrymore.jpgLooks like the Model.Live series proved very successful for Conde Nast.

They’ve just announced an ongoing partnership with video publishing platform Brightcove, for at least five of their magazine sites (Wired, Portfolio, Self, Parade and Glamour).

Translation? You’re about to see a lot more video content on Conde sites, powered by lots of advertising from companies that are leery of sinking their dollars into print pages, especially since even Conde magazines haven’t been doing very well.

It’s no secret that Conde’s kind of been behind in terms of getting their websites up to 2008 standards (though they’ve recently made strides by hiring a bevy of blogging babes over at Glamour) so this definitely signals a shift in their approach to survival.

So does this move from one of the biggest media companies in the world signal a shift in how the magazine industry itself needs to operate to survive (sans network television)? Guess we’ll see.

Your Bag

Today’s “What’s In Your Bag?”: Finger Puppets

Since we were just a little too scared to ask Anna “what’s in your bag?” we took a brief hiatus, but now we’re back!

Clearly the Fashion Week remnants are still among us, evidenced by the eclectic mix we hunted down this week. Kiki de Montparnasse, more puppies, Ralph Lauren, finger puppets, and a visit from my mommy… just a few of the reasons I heart New York!
