The Model Intern

womeninternshipyulia.jpgWant to break into the modeling world…on the business side? Here’s your chance.

Women is looking for few good interns, and just maybe that’s you.

Things that will help you get the job: Knowing the girls who work and who should be working, an obsession with fashion, magazines, and all things photographic. Oh, and the ability to always do what is asked of you—from organizing a girl’s book to making sure the comp cards are client-ready.

If this sounds like you, send your resumé and cover letter to joaquin@women-direct.com. And of course, give us the exclusive when someone books a big campaign.

DNA Takes Over Public Image?

dna.jpg Here’s one for you modelizers out there:

We hear DNA Models is absorbing Public Image, the guys’ modeling agency that used to be IMG Men.

The “news” makes sense, considering PI’s primary investor was recently murdered, and - according to one model familiar with the news - “because DNA’s all about pretty boys, and Public Image has tons of them.”

So what does this affect?

Basically nothing, but we thought you’d like to know before WWD told you.

Meanwhile, have you heard the rumor about Nadia, the mysterious fourth founder of Women/Supreme, realizing she actually owns a part of the agency and wanting to sell her shares of the company?

Oh, silly models. The things you tell us…

Agyness Deyn to Women, Come December?!

Agyness0504_468x719.jpgThanks to agency spies for telling us this:

Agyness Deyn is indeed hopping agencies to Women starting this December.

Though DNA will still represent her - and make their commission off her - through this show season, she’s actually slated to appear in Women’s Show Package, which will soon be on COACD, no doubt.

The move follows several high profile jumps in the past few months - Agnete bailing from Ford, Daisy Lowe parting ways with IMG, and Naomi Campbell doing… well, who knows what.

And this news is also good because it confirms one other thing:

Agyness will be walking in the catwalk shows this season! Yay!

Rumor Mill: Agyness to Women?

agyness dna.jpgA source just spilled that Agyness is leaving DNA - home to Natalia, Snejana, Raquel and Doutzen, among others - and headed over to Women - home to Carmen Kass, Jourdan Dunn, Heather Marks and Isabeli Fontana, among more.

And that’s not all. The reason why she’s leaving? DNA’s head booker is (allegedly) moving over to Women, and so Agyness may be following him out.

As of right now, she’s still listed on DNA’s board - but we’ll let you know the minute she bumps Alison Nix from the top of Women’s.

We don’t know if this could really have an effect on Agyness’ career, but we do know this: DNA and Women are just a couple blocks apart. Lunchtime street tension?

Handsome, By Way of Greece

GreekSandalMensWomens.jpgI’ve probably spent close to an entire lifetime looking for the perfect summer sandal, in just the last couple months. I looked on every site from Bergdorfs and Saks to Topman and Zappos. No luck, until now.

I stumbled upon my ideal summer footwear choice last night, and it’s available in men’s and women’s sizes. True, you would probably see it on more women’s feet. But it’s a simplistic shoe with just the right amount of masculinity (thick straps) and femininity (straps). Thankfully, it lacks one of those strange toe holes you see on most men’s sandals that I’ve never understood, and is much more interesting than a rubber flip flop or overplayed Urban Outfitters gladiator.

The great thing is that they’re handmade in Athens by a third generation shoe maker and still cost less than $50. I’ve already ordered two pairs.

“He was larger than life. I admired him and his work even before I entered this business. He had so much energy. I kept calling him Mr. Avedon and he kept saying- please call me Dick. I said I just couldn’t do that.” - Jennifer Starr, to the Women Management Blog.
Quote of the Day

“However this story shows what a great model Eva is…[She’s] taking advantage of the props at her disposal. Her right hand gracefully holds her cigarette. She is aware of the dangers of smoking but doesn’t care.” - Women Management Blog on Eva Mendes’ Steven Meisel Vogue Italia shoot.

Nina: Uh, Calling All Designers?

Nina Garcia talking.jpgWhile everyone continues to try and guess whether Nina Garcia just happened to be hanging out at the Hearst building yesterday, or if she is in fact being courted by Harper’s Bazaar, we offer some more fun Nina news to brighten your morning -

The former ELLE Fashion Director has partnered with Step Up Women’s Network and Bayer to bring us another kind of design contest for which (we’re guessing) she’ll be a judge - the “YAZ: Step Up and Go Beyond” contest.

Yep, that YAZ.

The contestant who can best redesign what Nina calls, “an iconic accessory,” the little plastic cases that house birth control pills, wins $10,000 to invest in a future career in design. You can enter until June 30, and the winner will be announced around Fashion Week this September.

Nina thinks the winner should be able to redesign the birth control case that Duane Reade gives out for free into “a chic, more sophisticated carrying case that they could slip into their purses” because apparently all women are secretly yearning to eye up each other’s plastic pill packs.

You heard it here first - Lutera’s so out for S/S ‘09.

Prada Casting Director Accused of Bribes

prada campaign.jpgWe were going to call this post, “The Devil Scares Prada,” but instead we’ll get right to the point:

There’s a swirl of agents and casting directors buzzing about a very dire rumor. Some have accused Prada’s longtime casting director, Russell Marsh, of accepting bribes from IMG and Women to put their girls front and center in Prada and Miu Miu’s casting. According to the rumor, Miuccia’s team had no knowledge of the bribes, and according to Style.com, the evidence that IMG and Women girls are usually on Prada’s opening and closing moments (and of course their Sasha Pivovarova campaigns) is quite solid. Although we’ve always believed that those two agencies, collectively, have the best stash of girls anyway. It’s also true that Meghan Sutherland had a Prada moment last year, but you may have noticed she was missing this season from the runways…

Furthermore, there’s an email going around, purportedly from Russell Marsh to his contacts, saying he needs to “go away for a while.” But we remember when the faux Olivia Palermo email got out last year, so we know how easy it is to forge an email address.

So why is this rumor going around and around?

Either it’s true, or a very vicious agency feels violated because their best girls got nixed from the Prada runway or campaign, and they decided to take matters into their own hands.

Also:

We get emails every day from people asking how to get into the fashion business. This is probably a good example of why you may not want to try.

And of course, if you know anything about this, email tips@fashionista.com and fill in the blanks.
