Cruisin' for Chanel

When are cruise and resort collections available in stores?

I'm particularly curious about Chanel's 2009 Cruise collection.

I've never paid much attention to the shows in between fall and spring, but I'm fixated on a pair of Laurence Decade shoes from this one.

I was assured that they'll be available to buy along with the clothes and I'm willing to spend whatever I have to spend to get them, I just don't know when.

Crazy for Gladiators - Help!

Jun 28, 2008 @ 1:17pm

balenciaga gladiators.jpgHi!

I have been looking for knee high Gladiator sandals....

Everywhere.

I want the ones that are like the Chanel pair that came out with last year.

But all I find are tacky looking imitations.

Please, no eBay!

Somewhere else!

Fashion Collecting: Streamlining or Splurging?

Mar 10, 2008 @ 3:39pm

blair is cute.JPGPosh Spice owns 100 Hermès handbags. We realize this is common knowledge but we still bat it around the office regularly with general disbelief.

Blair Waldorf probably has 100 headbands, and Aerin Lauder has a closet full of black pants, but is there a singular signature item that you would buy in bulk at Costco (like Tom Ford Sunglasses)?

My best friend's mom has 21 pairs of leopard print shoes. But this has more to do with the fact that she loves leopard print and shoes, and has the means to buy a surplus of both. We know another woman that collects David Yurman Jewelry, and owns nearly every piece he's ever made. But my personal favorite is a woman I know that buys three of everything to honor her three daughters. Seriously, three Hermès porcelain bracelets (is this an Hermès thing?), three identical Chanel handbags, three brightly colored Tod's loafers, whatever.

On the other hand, I've heard people talk about how freeing it is to have a uniform. Living like perpetual school girls, some women buy multiples to make their morning routine less stressful, and sleep a little longer without thinking about the excruciating sartorial decision waiting within their closet. I know from experience that this is really helpful, when you only have a couple shirts and a few pairs of jeans and cords, as I do, getting dressed is a five minute proposition.

So I guess what we're wondering here is whether collecting clothes is a byproduct of considerable means, or a call for simplicity, and perhaps more importantly, does anyone else actually do this? Or is this a myth perpetuated by Anna Wintour and her Prada dress fixation?

Are You Up For a Shoe Change?

Feb 27, 2008 @ 1:38pm

SHOE!.jpgShoes, as we all know, are a personal decision.

A lot of women are one-shoe kind of women, buying Chanel spectators, Tod’s moccasins, or Havaianas every season no matter what that seasons' runways dictate.

But in light of what's happening right now on the runways, we're wondering: Do you vary your shoe choices based on the whims of a designer, buying into giant platforms from Lanvin and high-heeled sneakers from Dries?

With Dame Vivienne showing strange duck-like square shoes, and Nicolas Ghesquiere making a serious case for a return to Manolo-esque points at Balenciaga; here at Fashionista, we wonder, will you abandon your round toed shoes of the past couple years?

We all remember a time in the not-so-recent past when Carrie Bradshaw and friends made the Pointy Stiletto Pump a way of life, but could seasons of sweet Marc Jacobs Mary Janes be so déclassé all of a sudden? One has to hope that when you buy $700 shoes that you can wear them outside of 4TS for more than one season, and yet, fashion exists to change, doesn't it?

So will you drop your Miu Miu flats in favor of uber-pointy heels circa 1999? How about for square-toed flats circa never?

Believe it or not, we really are dying to know!
