Here’s What the Buyers Had to Say About Hedi Slimane’s First Collections for YSL

While all eyes this week were focused on Raf Simons and his debut Dior couture collection, Hedi Slimane quietly made his debut at YSL Saint Laurent Paris. We already knew that his resort and menswear collections would be shown to buyers only, and they flocked to Paris this week to take in Slimane’s first collections for the house. While they were forbidden from taking photos, many were willing to speak anonymously about what they saw.

One retail exec reported that even the hangers, chairs and tables were designed by Slimane–a hint of new retail concepts to come under the rebranded Saint Laurent Paris label, according to WWD. And what about the clothes? Sounds like Slimane mined some YSL classics.

Behold the 25 Most Breathtakingly Beautiful Looks from the Fall 2012 Couture Shows

Paris couture week is officially over. In case you were too focused on Raf Simons’ and Kimye’s couture debuts to take everything in, those dilligent couturiers showed some pretty great collections.

Nothing compares to couture, a thriving and important part of the fashion industry. The fall 2012 collections were full of so much delicate, restrained gorgeousness it was tough to pick our favorites (especially when it came to Dior and Valentino), but we did our best. So, click through for one last look (well, until all the celebs start wearing them) at the 25 dresses we found ourselves gawking at–in a good way.

Those Plastic Creepers From Chanel’s Cruise Show ‘Destroyed’ Model Meghan Collison’s Feet

The rubber soled creepers at Chanel’s latest cruise show extravaganza at Versailles seemed a far cry from those blister inducing corn causers we usually see on the runways. Or were they?

Model Meghan Collison told WWD that despite Chanel being her “favorite” resort show so far this year, the mere mention of the luxe runway setting was enough to send Collison spiraling back into the painful memories that apparently were Karl’s creepers:

Dion Lee on His Shoe Collaboration with Kanye West: ‘I Didn’t Want to Make a Big Deal Out of It’

It’s safe to say we kind of have a teeny crush on Aussie designer Dion Lee: Besides the fact that he makes sleek clothes for super cool girls, he is adorably charming in person. So when we heard he would be in New York City showing his resort collection, we popped by for a look and to chat with the designer, whose global star is on the rise.

Lee showed for the first time outside of Australia last season in London, where he staged a small presentation for fall. While the Sydney fashion industry was disappointed to have lost him in their fashion week lineup, Lee explained that showing in his hometown would have meant staging three presentations in one year and that he wanted “concentrate on the clothes” instead. He confirmed to us that he’ll be showing again in London in September, but this time it will be a full-on runway show.

The Most Outrageous Looks from London’s First Stand Alone Menswear Shows

London just wrapped its first-ever stand-alone menswear shows; menswear had previously been relegated to a single day after the women’s RTW shows finished–and editors, who needed to get to Milan for the next round of shows, rarely stuck around. London did itself proud with its inaugural “London Collections: Men.” While there were plenty of natty Read more →

Carven Time Travels To Swinging London for Resort, Unveils New Collaboration

We’ve yet to walk away from seeing a Carven collection without wanting everything. Resort 2012 is no exception. Designer Guillaume Henri told us the playful, colorful collection was inspired by Peter Schlesinger’s A Checkered Past, a photo book documenting the ’60s and ’70s in London (which we now want–you can buy it here). “The photos Read more →

Exclusive: Abaeté’s Laura Poretzky Garcia is Back With New Swimwear Line Été

Remember Abaeté? The line initially started back in 2003 as a line of swimwear inspired by designer Laura Poretzky’s summers in Rio. The suits garnered a cult following Poretzky expanded Abaeté into a full ready to wear line shown to critical acclaim on New York’s runways from 2007 to 2009. Abaeté quietly shuttered in 2010, Laura Poretzky became Laura Poretzky Garcia (she married musician Diego Garcia and had a baby), and we hadn’t heard much from her…until now.

Poretzky Garcia has returned to her swimwear roots with a new swimwear line, Été Swim, which made its debut on Moda Operandi this weekend. The line came about thanks to Moda’s co-founder Lauren Santo Domingo, who brought Poretzky Garcia together with Lily Dickerson Maddock, formerly the head of knitwear label liDi, who heads up the business side as the President of Été.

So what’s Été all about? Why another swimwear line and why now? We asked Poretzy Garcia.

Karl Lagerfeld Explains His Crazy Cruise Collection, Reveals Extravagant Plans For Next Year’s Show

Karl Lagerfeld sent his 2013 Cruise collection for Chanel down a “runway” at Versailles yesterday. Barely recognizable models strutted in candy-colored wigs and quirky pastel looks that were Marie Antoinette-meets-rock & roll with very short hemlines. The collection definitely turned heads and inspired a wide array of opinions and questions–like what exactly was Lagerfeld thinking Read more →
