I'm going to Paris next month and staying until June. Everyone keeps telling me to layer and wear scarves, which i already do at home. Does anyone have packing tips or particular essential items i should get? thanks!

just off the bat, here's what i would take: a trench coat and a really cute umbrella, flats that will deal well with rain, a couple thin sweaters, shorts that you can layer with leggings or wear alone in june, actual sandals instead of flip flops (there are some super cute ones at j crew right now), and i would definitely suggest not bringing a lot of clothes. i know! but i would rather repeat a lot of outfits and do laundry like once a week than lug around two suitcases to wherever you'll be staying.

ahh i'm so jealous!!! do bring a scarf. one fabulous dress. two pairs of tights. the perfect jacket. one pair each black flats and loud heels. well, actually, that's what I would bring because i don't wear pants, but you can't go wrong with a skinny pair of dark denim. and practice your accent!!!

ive never been to Paris but in terms of general traveling (especially since according to the above posters it will be rainy) I would get one of those mini umbrellas where the handle pops out to be longer. They are cheap and u can get them at target easily, I have one for the rainy season in Thailand (where I live) and you can just stick it in your purse without having to lug around a big umbrella. also, pack pieces that work with alot of different clothes, that way you have to pack less and have more room to put new purchases : )

If any of your plans involve dragging a suitcase through the subway, you absolutely must pack as lightly as possible. You'll (probably) be buying a lot there anyway, so be selective with the things you bring along.

Paris in spring is tricky. Parisian women have an inner fashion clock that does not have a lot to do with the weather and one day they all stop with the scarves and layering and start with the chic spring clothes. Seriously, all the same day. It's amazing! And suddenly you will feel very un-chic in your little trenches and black flats. Although scarves are acceptable throughout the summer if you have a cold!

When I was in Paris last month, I wore my chunkyest gothic cross to a fashion show and I was mobbed by people touching it.....so apparently wear big jewels....Robyn......designer for Parijata Designs

Where are you from originally? The climate in Paris is similar to New York, so if you are from there then you will probably be ok climate dressing wise.
Other than that, I would say BRING AN UMBRELLA, it is always always always raining in the springtime in Paris. Not heavy rain, but sprinkles happen almost every day. Bring dark-colored clothes, mostly basics, because you are probably going to buy stuff when you are in Paris! :)
A good anorak will come in handy. When I was in Paris earlier this year I saw a ton of girls wearing those American Apparel gym bags. Don't be too trendy, but still be yourself. Parisians don't like to stick out and be super "unique" when it comes to fashion, they prefer basics that are in style and they will sometimes wear the same thing a few days in a row.
