I am A Shoppingist

Apr 30, 2008 @ 12:53pm

iekeliene in HH.jpgI'm moving to London.

I've lived there before so know where to shop and all that -

but this time I'm moving with disposable income.

I know the scene in NY - where to find sample sales and all that good stuff.

I don't work in fashion (I just wear it!) so can someone give me the lay of the fashion land in London?

try emailing susie bubble (www.stylebubble.typepad.com) she seems like she would have lots of info on that and she always has info on sample sales up in her sidebar on the blog

If you like vintage then rokit is great for off the wall cheap pieces, if you like designer vintage retro woman in Notting Hill is perfect.

Sample sales are sometimes announced in Time Out or the Evening Standard, and are frequently held at the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane. There are also mailing lists you can put yourself on, though I can't remember the names (despite being on them, oops). Like someone else mentioned, Susie Bubble posts a lot of sample sales on her sidebar as well. There are a number of second hand designer dress agencies scattered across the city, that are always worth popping into. Primark is very love it or hate it, but the one at Marble Arch is worth a look if you're into "value" shopping, as their designs have improved a million times over recently, as evidenced by their sellout Miu Miu and Luella copy dresses this season.

guest at 9:30, I love the way that you think that finding a place to watch gossip girl is really important. also, itv.com.catchup, it has the last episode shown in thre UK, but were several centuries behind. in fact, we're at Nate's dad coke-gate.

I recommend that you subscribe to e-news DailyCandy for London (www.dailycandy.com). They'll tell you when all the sample sales are on, and also keep you up to date on where to buy new brands. Also sign up for Billion Dollar Babes (www.billiondollarbabes.com), which runs great sample sales in London.
