Bright Eyes, Please

Jul 25, 2008 @ 9:13pm

tanya d at galliano.jpgHi everyone!

To keep it short and sweet - I've been trying to find an awesome eye shadow.

I'm open to any brand as long as it's good quality by which I don't necessarily mean expensive. I kind of want to experiment with bright colors that blend well and will last all day.

I'm interning so I'm not looking to make any major cosmetic investments but just something fun for the summer.

Any thoughts?

Sephora has a great feature on their website right now on "Visual Effects: Your Pro Guide to Making Eyes." It shows some pretty neat how-tos as well as recommends products for each look.

Nars and Smashbox also make great eyeshadows. MAC also has a great color selection as well!

Good luck!

the only makeup i use is "i.d. bareMinerals" it can be found in various makeup stores such as sephora or ulta...or you can order online at:
http://www.bareminerals.com/

i have extremely pale, sensitive skin, so these products have worked great for me! i've never had a bad reaction and the colors truly blend incredibly! they have some amazing natural tones and some funky shades as well :)

good luck!! i know how hard it can be to find a great shadow or blush that really feels great!

You can never go wrong with MAC! They have great colors out for summer & the pigments are great for blending throughout the day.

High Intensity pigments ( or HiP) can be found at target and they have really rich pigments for price point a bit lower than that of MAC. I am dark skinned and eyeshadows that arent highly pigmented look powdery on me and this brand works perfectly

if you're really going for something like that picture, you probably need professional grade or stage makeup. i don't think this stuff is any more expensive than MAC - http://stores.ebay.com/shrinkle_Makeup_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ3815121QQftidZ2QQtZkm

kryolan is for theater/movies and quite possible for raves. i bought the bright blue aquacolor from that ebay seller (came brand new) and how it works is that you use a damp brush to pretty much paint on your lids watercolor style. you can use an angled or eyeliner brush to do thinner lines in different colors. once it dries, it does NOT budge until you wash it off (so you might not want to wear it in a thunderstorm either). if you're going to wear it in daylight, be prepared for stares and double takes. added bonus if you're into it - glows under blacklight. as far as the cost, just a touch of it spreads all over your lids so it will last a really long time.

i've never used their regular powder shadows which also come in bright colors, but the aquacolors are more intense hues if that's what you're going for. the only other bright shadow i've used is manic panic from trash & vaudeville but the kryolan is better.

HIP by Loreal are great esp. for the price. They are very bright and easy to work with. The eyeliner stays on forever!

For something not necessarily like the picture, but for pretty eyeshadow I just bought one of the Urban Decay eyeshadow sets from Sephora. They are all a little sparkly or shimmery but there are 3 different color palettes to choose from and I like all of them a lot.

i'd suggest ben nye. it's stage makeup and you can buy it online or in any costume shop--or drag shop, actually. very bright colours, great quality.

i love nars eyeshadow. they come in the prettiest colors, and of course is good quality makeup. i also like, for cheaper makeup, loreal rich colors. i bought the prettiest purple one time, and they have gorgeous sets and individual colors for cheap prices. you can get them at any grocery store, or even target.

I think Urban Decay has some great colors, as well as Hard Candy. True, some of them are pretty crazy with the sparkle and glitter and stuff, but they do have other colors that aren't as blingy. The pigments tend to be pretty intense and stay on all day, and I have found them to be pretty affordable. Another brand I love is NARS.
