Handbag Repair - Where?

Jul 09, 2008 @ 6:23pm

botkier cairo.jpgI very recently bought a Botkier handbag at the sample sale -- in less than a month, one of straps attached to the metal fastener (I'm not very sure of the exact terminology...) has ripped.

Normally, I don't mind a few wear and tears here and there, but I've taken very good care of this bag and I don't carry heavy loads in it, which is why I'm so surprised to find the strap ripped after a few weeks.

I'm afraid that it'll rip further and that the strap will completely come off. How can I fix/repair this? Are there handbag repair shops (is there such a thing?) in NYC? Can I repair with this with needle and thread?

Thanks so much!

For those of you in San Francisco, Anthony's Shoe Service is a-maz-ing. Bag and shoe repair (for even the most drastic of situations) is top notch.

But cobblers in general are the place to take leather goods in need of refurbishment.

Most shoe repair shops do purse repairs as well.

Superior Leather on Lexington, no question they are the best, I even have sent bags to them all the way from Boston!
