Winter Jacket Search in Boston

Nov 20, 2008 @ 8:15pm

stella mccartney tweed coat.jpgI've moved to Boston for college, and, as many of you probably realize, it's cold - much colder than New Jersey ever was.

I really could use a cute long, warm, winter jacket (key words long and warm - I feel like a lot of the jackets I see online probably wouldn't hold up to the Boston chill).

Help a girl out - send me your recommendations.

Better yet, direct me to a store where I could actually try them on for myself instead of ordering online.

Thanks so much!

Laundry By Shelli Segel (check the spelling on her last name) always has very warm long winter coats. I bought one last year and it kept me warm in Chicago (which is very very cold)

You can usually find them at Burlington Coat Factory (they have those all over) or TJ Maxx for lower prices. And they are at Nordstrom, but it's more pricey there for the exact same thing

What about the long north face down jacket? It's highly technical but a great shape that won't go out of style. It's incredibly lightweight for the warmth it delivers. I always admire them on anyone I see wearing one. There's black obvs but the brown is choclately and a maroon as well.

Go to Newbury Street and check out all of the consignment shops - Second Time Around and The Closet are probably the best. They have incredible designer coats for reasonable prices. If all else fails, head to Zara.

I've lived in Boston for a long time. If you want to be comfortable, you're going to have to bite the bullet and get a serious long down jacket. Just remember, no matter how great your clothes are you will not look good if you are freezing!

oh yeah, go to the closet! probably not the best place for the kind of jacket you're looking for but they have beautiful vintage designer clothing, and it's very edited so only it's only the best stuff:

I live in NY and just bought 2 new coats, both from gilt groupe, which is an internet sample sale site. I think I got great deals on both. Im very petite so its hard for me to find coats.

One was from walter and the other was from vera wang, both at 80% off and in my size.

This is an invitation in case anyone isnt a member. Click on it and you can become a member.

@guest re: gilt groupe:

Thanks for the link! The sign-up still requires your e-mail address for me to join. pateltoral doesn't work by itself.

Thanks!
