Which Shoes to Wear?

Dec 03, 2008 @ 11:35am

komarov cap sleeve dress in aubergine.jpgFor a holiday office party, I'm wearing the Komarov Crinkled Cap Sleeve Dress (floaty pretty dancing dress) in red.

But I'm not sure about shoes. I'm not a fan of the black/red combo, so I'm avoiding black. And this is in Chicago in winter, so I'm not sure a strappy sandal is appropriate.

My boyfriend likes the idea of purple suede stiletto pumps, but I'm not sure about that color/style combination with the dress.

What do you think? Would purple suede pumps be ok? Or can you suggest something else?

Thanks!

Umm...do not listen to your boyfriend.

I think an off-white shoe or boot would look really great. It's cute and right for the holidays. I agree that black and red really should not go together.

Fellow Chicagoan,

I understand your shoe concern for the holiday season. I am not sure about the purple suede pumps, my current fashion craze is to not be really matchy matchy, with colors, but make items look great together. You can match red with some subtle earth tones with a nice patent leather shoe, black is classic, but i am sure you can find an interesting color. Be imaginative and have fun with it.

Hope this helps. Remeber fasion is what you make it.

Well, rule number 1 is to go with what you feel comfortable with. But I would NOT wear purple with red. Wearing red shoes with a red dress can be risky but only if the shades do not match. Depending on the shoe style you could get away with white/cream(V. miss Monroe)
If you want an edgier look try to find a shoe that contrasts with the red, in a shade of blue or turqoisey green.(not plain green though or you will look like an xmas tree) And accent the colour in your outfit e.g wear a like coloured earing.....good luck

I think a gray pump could look really great. Maybe in suede? Or maybe try a metallic, like pewter, silver, etc.

oooh, love the grey pump idea. and also a little texture on your purse. i just bought a super cute Yana clutch at 25% off that might go good! (discount code on BupGrade, http://www.bupgrade.com/2008/yana-handbags-code/black-owned-business)

holy hell, do not wear a purple pump. grey pumps might have worked if the dress were shorter... are you keeping it at the knee length? with that (long) hemline, i think black tights and black bootie (or maybe even a winter-fabric open toe) is the only way to go -- if you have long legs. if you have short calves, i'd abandon this dress altogether... sorry mang.
