Is Topshop Worth It?

Mar 03, 2009 @ 3:05pm

checked topshop sundress.jpgI'm on a hunt for cute (but not cutesy) mini dresses for spring and summer, and the only place that seems to have what I'm looking for at a halfway decent price is Topshop.

But the way the dresses are displayed on the website just makes them look cheap and ill-fitting. I won't be able to make it to the new Topshop store in New York until fall, so I want to know if any of you think $80 is worth it for a little cotton dress?

Is the quality worth it, or am I better off at Forever 21?

Thanks!

I think you are better off at Zara.

Fit is all in dresses and I'm busty so I tend to not buy dresses I cant try on. I find F21 dresses really badly cut and would rather shop at Tj MAxx or an outlet mall. I'f you're desperate and the return policy is good, maybe try one Topshop dress and see how you like it in person. But personally I'd wait and see- given the way the economy is going, I expect spring dresses in most big shops - Zara, Bananna republic, etc to be on sale by May, with outlet shops discounting even more...

Honestly, I don't think it looks worth it. It may be one of those things you're crazy over right now and then in like a month or even a week you will think... "gosh i'm so glad I didn't order it!" but like the person above me said, if there is a good return policy, maybe just trying it out in person isn't that big of a deal.

Banana Republic has most of their spring dresses on sale or going to be soon and they are all very cute/simple. Definitely very good quality and $80 and under.

Do not buy fast fashion - you need to buy investment pieces anyway, items which you will love and hang onto forever. They can't fall apart after a wash or two. Most end up clogging our landfills anyway. While you are here in NYC, go check out the sample sales, Century 21, Daffys, and I am sure you will find so much better for your 80 dollars.

Banana Republic?

We're talking about Topshop here.

Thanks for the help! I definitely don't want anything that will fall apart right away. I'll look at the other stores, too, to see what kind of mini dresses they have. To-the-knee sundresses make me feel frumpy and short.

I don't care how desperate you become. Forever 21 is NEVER OK!!!

Banana Republic AND Gap for sure.

j.crew?
...that's all i got!
but they do have some cute, cheaper, dresses for spring/summer (it's better to look in stores than online...) that i love!
oh, and old navy every once in a while..such as this spring..has some cute summer dresses that are obviously cheap. i would check out there store since the online site tends to differ from the store
or target has some good dresses, i'm not sure/doubt though that the alexander mcq line has any "summer" dresses but it's worth a shot
good luck!
