low cut tank alex wang.jpgI've been buying all of these oversize tanks for spring - very Alexander Wang-ish with super wide armholes.

Anyway, I plan on wearing them with everything from shorts to jeans and tucking them into skirts at night but I'm not sure what to wear under them.

Sometimes the arm holes drape almost down to my waist and even the smaller arm holes expose a lot of skin. I'm too conservative to just wear a pretty bra, even though I love that idea in theory. Any ideas for something that'll cover me up but still look sexy?

Thanks!

you could wear one of those tube top bras. American Apparel is a good place to look for one. they have metallics and solids.

One option is to wear a body suit underneath, American Apparel makes cute mesh ones in nude, white, black.. so you could play around.

thought i'd chime in since the same thing happens to me - i usually wear either a very thin tank top of the same cut underneath, or a very thin tube top which can be fun if you play with the colors.

I work at a boutique that sells Helmut Lang tanks that are cut oversized and deep in the armpits. I pair mine with a racer back tank that also mirrors the shape, but is considerably more fitted. Helmut Lang also makes Bandeau tops in white and black that are double lined with darts for $45. The fit is better than American Apparel and less trashy looking.

Victoria's Secret has a bra that is backless and strapless. It's just two silicone cups that stick to you and hook together in the middle. If you take care of them you can wear them a million times. They look and feel natural, but you don't have to worry about giving the world the weather report (if you catch my drift). That and some double stick tape and you should be good to go.

One very inexpensive option--particularly if you're smaller-chested--is a dance bra from a site like Discount Dance Supply--they're very unobtrusive and you can even get them with clear shoulder and back straps.

I've also been wearing the tanks over my VPL Beckham bra/tanks, and VPL makes other base layers as well. VPL isn't cheap but you can find them pretty deeply discounted.

Go with something cute like a lace bodysuit underneath. Alternatively wear a bodycon dress underneath it so you can have the coverage and a skirt in one.

denim bodice from topshop under a white top - more edgy.

pair with high waisted black peg legs or a high wasted skirt.
