A Fresh Start

marcbymarcjacobsforcommunity.jpegYou how they some there's always some good that comes from what seem like the worst things. Well, that's pretty much what happened to me.

Bad News: My apartment caught on fire and I lost all my clothes

Good News: I have a large sum of insurance money to replace them!

I am torn between trying to re-create the wardrobe I had which was a mish-mash of several styles, or focusing in on one look.

Am dying to get some outside opinions! So, if you could re-do your wardrobe would you take it as a chance to re-invent yourself? Whose look might inspire you?Where would you shop first?

I feel bad for your loos but you are in a complete dream scenario! I say pick a few basics (black pants, a few perfectly cut dresses, a pencil skirt or two and some fantastic jeans) that are timeless and good enough quality to last. After that go babanas and have fun with accessories and shoes and little vintage jackets and peices to pair with those basics to create tons of looks. Not a mishmosh, but definitely not limited to just one look.

If I were you, I'd take the money and divide it evenly, (maybe 60/40, FW/SS) and spend one half now for a FW wardrobe, and one half for SS. I would suggest first going out and purchasing investment basics...classics that will never go out of style. The key to investing in the basics is that you'll have an excellent base wardrobe, allowing you to follow trends as they come an go, but still have a sense of continuity in your style from season to season. Why spend $1,000 on a trendy fashion item that you'll only get one or two seasons out of(unless it's TO DIE FOR, of course), when you can spend the same on a piece that will last you year after year?

So, long story short, spend most of the money on timeless pieces FIRST, then go ahead and try to "re-create" some of the funky wardrobe you had before. That way, you can play around with different looks and trends without ever straying from a unified sense of personal style.

If you stick with one "style" you risk regretting your choice and then you will be stuck with what you got. This is a good opportunity to invest in timeless pieces, a little vintage and sprinkle in a couple of looks from FW and SS.
